The Pats lost the Super Bowl this season and seven years later lost to the Eagles in the SB. The only thing keeping me from going insane were the three other Super Bowls the Patriots won in this decade. Five trips to the big dance in one decade, may never be duplicated again. Bill will miss Brady more than the other way around.
Andy not making arguably the worst playcall of his career at 1:29:00 would've helped too. Just what the fuck was he thinking. All these years later it still pisses me off. I mean, a TD there probably doesn't start a comeback, but thanks to that playcall, we'll never know. Calling a rollout pass on 4th down from the 2, when you can get a first down at the 1. And it never had a chance. Sneak it, give it to Shady, throw a slant to Avant, fuck, anything would've been better than that. He fully earned every boo and chant in the stadium with that big brain Andyball nonsense.
The '11 Patriots were slightly ahead of the Ravens as the NFL's best. Had it not been for a mistake-filled Super Bowl, they would have celebrated a 4th title 3 seasons earlier than the '14 win over Seattle.
The 2011 Patriots are the biggest paper tiger ever to be in a SB. This wasn't 2007. . Their 13 wins ALL came against teams 8-8 or worse. They even lost to 9-7 teams like Giants in Week 9 AT HOME. They beat the 8-8 Tebows in their first playoff round, and then The ONLY quality win was AFC Championship vs Ravens and even that was luck with dropped passes. They SHOULDNT have been favored by 3 in the Superbowl; they lost to them at home with the Giants missing 2 starting WRs, and half their pass rush.
Here: Find a single team with 9 wins or more they beat. www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nwe/2011.htm Wins: AFC East 5 wins, Plus: 8-8 Chargers, 8-8 Eagles, 8-8 Cowboys, 4-12 Redskins, 2-14 manningless Colts, 7-9 chiefs, 8-8 Raiders, 8-8 Tim Tebows, Losses: 12-4 Steelers,, 9-7 Giants, and they even lost to the 6-10 Bills. Not a single quality win until the AFC Championship. The Ravens probably would have beaten the Giants in the Superbowl; or were at least far more battle tested. There was no reason whatsoever for them to be 3 point favorites besides reputation; betters forgot week 9 at home couldn't get a Revenge win for their fans and their psyche for the 2007 SB 18-1. I expected a blowout considering Giants were so injured in wk 9.
Now consider these mediocre to bad teams STILL scored enough points on the Patriots to put them to 15th place in most points allowed; and you start to realize how lucky this team got. Im somewhat more informed then most when it comes to 2011 Patriots as I was placing $$ on the Giants to cover.
@@TheLocalLt In the AFC championship game these 2 evenly matched teams battled it out. Yeah, it should have gone to OT. Two weeks later the Pats this time blew a winnable Super Bowl. The rest, is just noise.
Coaches were stupidly trying to force everyone to run the same 'pro style offense' - Stand in pocket read the whole D coverage in 2.5 seconds, get the ball out to a spot that the WR will arrive at. It's great when it works as designed: built in answers to every Defensive call. But ONLY 10-15 QBs on earth each year can do that, Especially with disguised coverages and pressure packages. 2/3 of drafted QBs NEVER develop into Efficient passers. It took 2012 RG3, Cam, Kaep and offensive coordinators like Greg Roman and Kyle Shanahan to FINALLY get us to a place where the 2019-2020 Ravens can even exist.
QB Running ability is a force multiplier by optioning off unblocked defenders; which made RBs have 5 Yards a carry. Alfred Morris got a rushing title in 2012 because of it. Esp play action off of it, where you have way more than 2.5 seconds. If Greg Roman, Kyle Shan had Vince Young; he'd have had a way better career.

Hernandez was BETTER than Kelce and Gronk wasn't even comparable. A TE who can block like a lineman and receive better than every TE ever. We watched them destroy the league as 2nd Yr Pros... Imagine them for 4 more years. Brady would have 7, maybe 8
That Eagle team was total garbage. High prices overpaid old players that didn't care. Players dropping passes. Having an OL coach be your DC was a bad move. Blown coverages especially letting Wes Welker get wide open down the seam that he's not accustomed to. Ugh. That team was trash. This was the beginning of the end of the Andy Reid era. Reid wore out his welcome at the time. Bad game all the way around.
Agreed on all counts, though in hindsight the way 2009 ended signaled some major red flags. They couldn't stop the run worth a shit either. and what made it all worse was the hype. No Eagles team since I've been a fan has been treated like that before one single snap was played.
