Very well said! I enjoy watching your content because you teach, and you are not trying to sell something almost all of the time. You tell people to have fun and show how to fix mistakes and that we all make them, even you. You are probably one of the most real people on RUclips and that is a rare quality on RUclips. That's exactly how I want to be when I finally get on here too. Keep doing you and don't listen to the naysayers. Stay safe and Happy Building 💯😁 P.S. I hope the cup didn't break!😱🫣

Erik, I worked as a commercial carpenter for many years and also taught carpentry school for apprentices. In all that time I advised my students that the #2 pencil was the most dangerous tool on any job(the potential for errors committed with it was vast and numerous!). When you show your box you can tell the viewer that it contains the most dangerous tool in your shop

I totally get it! Being authentic, real, unpretentious and vulnerable to your public is where it needs to be all of the time! It’s why I am drawn to your channel. I’m a newbie to this creative art, at 74 I have no room for superficiality or pretense. I could be dead any time. I’m still going to work putting together my shop. Buying a few tools and putting that workbench together. I only care for what brings a sense of purpose and joy for myself and others. Thank You for encouraging that in me.

BTW, i love your box. I once made a simple finger joint box as a wine presentation, but just loved how the grain and joinery turned, that i never separated the lid, so now it lives in my shop as a box that doesn't open that brings me joy when I see it!

I'm a professional furniture maker, just finished a fully custom table for clients that are also very good friends so I've been able to actually sit, eat at and play board games on this table I made (that's a first!). Right now I'm taking the week off to just be and enjoy life with my family and just do things I feel like doing outside of my professional work life so I fully appreciate you just being you and doing whatever it is that you need to do to be able to continue on with your professional life the same as I do. So thank you for this video as I was feeling a bit off about taking the time that I know I need between big projects but this relaxed me quite a bit. Have a good one!

Erik, you need to do what will work for you. Your artistic skills are impeccable, your shop skills are inspiring, and your presentation skills are engaging. That said, if you don"t take care of YOU, your viewers will lose what most of us tune in for....a real human being. The magicalness (?!?) of your channel is your ability to illustrate the value of having a personal connection to the "thing" you're building, the ability to embrace the pleasure of the process. Most of us would starve if our next meal depended on a successful next project. You encourage us to value the joy of the build instead of the value of the result. Wishing you safety, joy, and fruitfulness!

But while you are in Indiana (thinking of the desert pick lol) Madison is just a short two hour trip from Indy. And it is the most beautiful place in Indiana. A quaint river town full of architectural beauties. The Saddle Tree Factory is an amazing visit. Walking along the river is amazing. Touring the historic homes is amazing. Checking out the Arts store on Main with some great art both canvas and woodworking is amazing. And if you like camping…. Clifty Falls State Park is even more amazing. It’s just a beautiful place to visit. And it will change your thoughts about Indiana.

I’ve watched way too many channels get set into a specific release schedule and you can tell when they’re just trying to put a video out bc it’s the same recycled garbage everyone else has done. I would much rather watch a creator who’s fully present and enjoying themselves in a video every other or every third week than watch a quality channel chase a release schedule.

In anything creative you need time to "play". Try stuff not done before. When I was doing software engineering I would take Friday afternoon , if possible, to "play" with aspects of the programming toolset not tried before. Good fun and something useful always came from it. Even if it was " well, don't mess with that again !"
I'm happy that you share with us whenever it's best for you.
    Beautiful box.

I have looked but have not found the link to the class you will be teaching in Reading Pennsylvania. (Edit: I did find their calendar and there is no mention of a class that weekend ) Thanks for the update. I am grateful for all that you have taught me over the last six months with all of your past videos and anticipating the next Saturday release. Though I am disappointed that the flow of knowledge will slow, I am happy that you are finding success and taking the time to enjoy it.

Erik, we watch because we like what you offer. You should do whatever makes you feel right. Personally I would like to see more hands on building scenes but thats ok. Just do what works for you. You have your own style, stick with it. I hope your smiley coffee mug is ok.

Making videos is tough for creative types of all kinds. Inevitably the video making has to become as big a part of the effort as the thing itself and it also has to become a grind. My point is - you clearly care deeply about all of this. So do what works for you and the rest will sort. Been fun to get know you a bit through the videos and grateful you are willing to share. But do what you enjoy and the rest will follow. Thank you.

This comment is exclusively to help boost engagement because 1. I enjoy these types of videos 2. Being being simultsneously contrararian, constructive, and kind is so rare as to be unique. And 3. Secret compartments are cool

Gotta keep the fun in making, I’ve videoed some of my projects for Insta, but I would rather occupy my mind with making, than worrying about finding the best camera angle.
Having said that I appreciate your approach to artistic making, and always learn something from your videos.

Perfect ending to a video of being human lol. Love the content you share with us and although I wish there were more videos or multiple posts a week I don’t fault you for wanting or needing to do what you gotta do for your own personal reasons or mental health or more free time or better videos or you’re just too busy etc. Love the bespoke #2 pencil holder. The secret compartment reminded me of the SNL skit with Adam Sandler.
