Ghost Mantis Vivarium pt 1 (Custom Insect Terrarium)

- I think it's time to switch it up and add some insects to the animal room! Till now, their presence has been virtually nonexistent in my collection. I've always been intrigued by praying mantises and figured that's where I should start. Since this is my first one, I went with a small and easy to care for species, the Ghost Mantis (Phyllocrania paradoxa).
This animal is incredible! It looks like a leaf and even bobs around to mimic their movements. I have a clip of that at the end of the video. They don't get very large and unfortunately don't live very long either (8 months max). This one is already fairly large, so it likely only has 1-2 months left. That's alright though. I'm just getting my feet wet and this is a great starting point.

Hey Tanner, thanks for your help last week with my palidarium, I'm leaning towards dumpy tree frogs, but what should live in the water area? It will be blackwater and 10 gallons, what should I do?

that looks almost identical to the one i built for my crestie!! except mine just has trim, but i siliconed bark and coco fiber to it to make it look more natural. also i bought acrylic hinges, but they weren't strong enough, and my door keeps going lower than the bottom piece, i would like suggestions for hinges and locks.

Recently lost my ghost mantis, Ripley. She had a full life though and I hope she enjoyed the vivarium I set up. This is gonna be next level though haha. Just remember that they tend spend most of their time on the mesh ceiling, so carefuly that the light is not too hot.

I am so excited to see this series through! I am a mantis guy myself and I knew it was only a matter of time before you would own one! I thought you would do the orchid mantis first, but the ghost mantis is a beautiful species! Looking forward to the updates!

I’m glad he didn’t go for an orchid first. They’re not a good mantis species to start with, and i’d be worried it might encourage less experienced people to get one as their first mantis.
I thought he might do a mantis one day ( I was crossing my fingers) and was guessing Orchid Mantis too.
You should sell kits that have everything you need to make the enclosure and comes with a sheet of paper for what you can put in the tank
Check out bugs in cyberspace, i believe they carry kits just like this! Its ran buy a dude named peter, extremely cool dude and sells a huge variety of invertebrates.
I think that would take away the joy and fun of the projects and would need tons of work. A website, supplies, plus it’s much easier and cheaper to do it yourself. His videos are already very in depth
Ghosts were my first mantis! I had 4 of them and then their offspring. After them, I've had brunners, dead leaf, cat eye, and now giant boxer. Love mantis content!

That reminds me of being in the Philippines, to see my wife and In Laws. There were Mantis' in the trees outside of their house. I would put my hand out to them and they would willingly walk onto my hands. My wife would shout at me, "No They will bite you!", and I'd laugh knowing they wouldn't. Such fascinating insects they are, and the dance they do as they walk is very intriguing. They truly are strange but beautiful!!!!!!!!
