      The torque wrench’s that Honda supplies don’t have to be set every time. The yellow torque wrench is permanently set at 30lb-ft for drain plug. It also prevents some one from over tightening the drain plug. Also this guy does not know how to use the torque wrench properly, you should only let the wrench click once. Pulling the wrench multiple times over tightens to increases the torque applied to the fastener.

    While inspecting things are important, you need to understand that what they are really doing is looking for things they can fix and overcharge you on. For example, that engine air filter in the beginning is simple to replace by unclipping some clips and buying a new one if dirty. A lot of dealerships will take advantage of customers not knowing what an engine filter is or how easy it is to replace it and will charge $50-$100 sometimes for a filter which would cost your around $19.95 at most and a couple minutes of your time to replace. Even better, buy a reusable K&N engine air filter and you will save even more money over time.

    • @garrettstevensen2467
      @garrettstevensen2467 6 лет назад +6

      I agree 99% of everything what you said, except for the K&N air filter. OEM paper filters have very fine particulate filtration. Yes, the K&N does increase air flow, at the expense of dirty/harmful/dusty air entering the engine, acting like sandpaper.

    I have no place where I can safely jack up my car so I felt I needed to have the work done for me. My 2015 Honda Fit has had 2 oil changes done by dealer service departments. This car has a plastic shroud that goes under the engine. It is fastened with 6 Phillips head self-tapping screws, that screw into metal clips which have holes in them, and 2 plastic 2-part fasteners push-pin fasteners. It is held up in the front by 2 lips that simply rest on top of the bumper shroud. First oil change, the technician put one of the front lips above the bumper shroud, and the other underneath. Second oil change, the tech missed the metal clip with one screw, leaving the screw just hanging loose, and the shroud flopping loose in one spot. This dealer provided a "free 19 point inspection" during which the tech neglected to close the battery cover over the positive terminal, putting it at risk of being shorted out. He also checked the tire pressure and set them to 35 psi, even though the spec is 33. Not a big deal, 2 extra pounds. But he neglected to tighten the valve stem caps, risking loss of the caps. He just sort of started them on the valve stems, and turned them down maybe only 1/2 a turn - in other words barely turned down, very losse, and likely to come off after a few miles. He did this with all 4 valve stem caps!

    Nice to see he didn't use an oil wrench to tighten it. There is no need to prime the oil filter. Maybe a nine inch diesel filter that went straight up but auto is not needed. It will pump oil fast enough and there is still oil up inside. You won't get it all by the time your done draining. Many very expensive cars have canisters or are on angles where the oil would run out of the filter by the time you screwed the new one on.

    One of the frustrating things about having the oil changed by the Honda dealer is that they tighten the oil pan bolt back on so much that I have to use a breaker bar to loosen it when doing the next oil change at home. Jesse Allen what you mean prime oil filter? If you think any place will fill oil filter with oil first your insane. Your also an idiot, the car was running when they drove it into shop. It still has a coating of oil on every part in the engine. It would take many days, possibly weeks for that oil film to fully dry and leave internal parts unprotected. Even if it did dry you think the 1 second it takes for the oil filter to fill affects anything? You leave a comment thinking you know more than a mechanic but you don't know shit. The toyota 2.2 liter engine they used for 30 years is considered one of the most reliable engines ever produced and the oil filter is screwed on from the top, therefore inpossible to 'prime'. Same with every subaru engine.

    The best oil changes with the best products are the ones I do myself. Much to the objection of some dealership mechanics, I mean "automotive technicians", I've managed to change my own oil without causing a thermonuclear meltdown.
    However, if for some reason I cannot do the job, I'd pick a Honda dealer (or whatever dealership for your vehicle make) over any oil change place. You will at least be getting good oil and filter. You probably won't be paying much more for a full synthetic oil change than you would at a quick lube shop. It may not be as fast as a quick lube place, but there is a much less chance that they will screw it up. Quick lube places are notorious for putting on the wrong filter, cheap filters, putting the filter on wrong, stripping oil pan threads or substituting cheap oil.

    What he did is reset the "maintenance minder" light, not the "oil" light. He said it almost right the first time, "the maintenance light." There is a red oil light in addition to the yellow maintenance minder light. It indicates if the oil pressure is low, and may indicate if the level is low. It is not something that can be "reset." "This car has no power steering; it has electric power steering." Maybe he meant that the car has no power steering FLUID? If the car has any disk brakes, one does NOT want to see the brake fluid reservoir filled all the way up, unless the brake pads are at new thickness. As the pads wear, as they have in this car, the fluid level goes down. If with the pads worn, the reservoir is topped up, then when new pads are installed, the reservoir will overflow. Very messy. Cars are designed so that as the pads wear all the way down, there will still be plenty of fluid in the reservoir. It will be above the minimum line, as well as below the maximum line. Tire tread depth should be measured on several points on each tire, several points along the width, several points around the circumference. In addition to tread depth, they should be inspected for evenness of wear. If any tires shows uneven wear, further diagnosis is necessary to see if it indicates a need for balancing, wheel alignment, or replacement of suspension parts such as ball joints or tie rod ends.

Do you know why they tell you to change your oil so soon it's because Honda changed their oil filter to a cheaper one made by Fram. Look for Honda 15400-PLM-A01 Oil Filter! I always thought that Gastrol GTX was as good as or better than the Honda branded oil. I still only use the Honda Oil Filter. I change my oil myself. But, the cost of everything is going up - including the do-it-yourself oil change. The Honda Engines can last a half a million miles as long as you don't change the timing belt late.

    Last time I took my 2017 Civic to an oil change I got a Flat tire just getting out of the dealer, the guy didn't tell me I got a nail in the tire and a tire pressure light on the dashboard was on.. So I came back to fix it and they said "I'm sorry we don't fix flat tires but we can put some air on it" that sucks

    It's not rocket science to fill the oil filter with some oil before you put it on try to save those bearings any way you can plus it's just good procedure if the oil filter goes straight up and down the dealership just clowns people around anyway

    My friend got a battery installed at a Honda stealership in Lynn,mass. They never connected the J bolts that hold the battery in place. They broke one off.Terminal cable had a screw put in it so the terminal wouldn't move around. What the F. They call themselves mechanics. I ordered new J bolts on EBay and replaced them. I convinced him no more stealerships. He uses my local ASE approved mechanic.

Really, a few wrenches, sockets, ratchet, torque wrench....really a lot of tools.Just a BS video to get you to use a Honda dealer and give them money you can save by doing all yourself. And you can LEGALLY change your own oil and filter.

    He neglected to rotate the tires. Tire rotation interval about equals the oil change interval.
    He neglected to put a new washer on the oil drain plug which is specified by Honda.
    I found it funny how he used a torque wrench on the drain plug but did not use a torque wrench on the oil filter which has a torque specification written on the filter. It does also specify turns after contacting base but that is not as precise. When he tightened the oil filter, he just tightened it by feel. In reality, I find it hard to believe they use a torque wrench at all as they are in such a rush.
    I do all of those procedures when I change the oil on my Honda but use a better oil, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Synthetic. I would not trust the dealer to service my car.

    I usually do my own oil change. But the last time I've been at a Honda dealer, they dropped the oil filler cap seal in the back of the engine(next to PCV valve). No idea how the seal came out of the cap. At the next oil change, I had to use both hands to remove the cap. Also, I asked for Synthetic oil and paid a high premium for that. That was the crappiest oil I ever paid for, my wife complained for months that the engine is noisy and lack of power. I just change the oil last week, engine regained its energy.

    the video. I have a question. Does it happen sometimes to you when you start driving after your car was parked for about 5 to 7 hours or overnight you start breaking slightly and your car breakers abroptly and hard? It happens on my Honda hrv 2019 and the car has only 700 miles! But then after driving 5 minutes more the car breakers normally softly and gently!

    • @aurvaroy6670
      @aurvaroy6670 5 лет назад

      If that's the case, that means you're brakes are new. When you have new brakes, you don't have to press the pedal as hard to make it stop. And since you have 700 miles on your SUV, I'm assuming your SUV is brand new. New cars obviously have new brakes.

    I would never trust a stinking dealer where they take the car around the back and you never see what they do. One time I went in for an oil change and it ended up that the oil was never changed but they had me pay anyway. I didn't realize until later that the oil was the dirty old oil
    Another time my one year old's car muffler was replaced with an old rusty muffler. Again, I did not notice this until months later and by that time I could not prove they did it due to lapse of time. My friend took his car for an oil change and he drove off without oil in the car. One dealer mechanic related how the mechanics do remove parts and replace them with old parts and I am proof of that. One was a Honda dealer, one a Lexus and one a Pontiac.

    Change engine oil EVERY 50 hours of engine operation or 3,500 miles. ANY kind of oil gets DIRTY and no filter can clean it that well.
    Also, ALWAYS use a COUPON for an oil change at Honda. Most Honda dealers will match coupons from other Honda dealers (sometimes also Acura dealers, too).

    First of all you need 4.5 q of oil not 5. Second you don't need an oil change sticker for 5k miles because depending on how you drive and where, the oil change might be needed anywhere from 5k to 10k. I am at 6k and my dashboard says I got 10% of oil life left. So you could potentially waste a lot of $ by doing the oil change too often. Honda put that oil change indicator in the dash for a reason. Also when you install a. Ew oil filter you need to lubricate de filter gasket. The guy in the video did it, but didn't say it need to be done. Poorly informative video at best

    • @bartman464
      @bartman464 7 лет назад +1

      I'm curious because my 2013 civic shows 50% after almost 5000 miles, and it showed 50% even before going on a 440 mile long road trip. The oil looks pretty dark so I might go get it changed soon but i just hope that meter isn't wrong...

    • @mmm2001
      @mmm2001 7 лет назад +1

      Steven s it depends a lot on how and here u drive. In town and stop and go wears out the oil 2 times more than regular driving. So instead of the 10k miles interval for the oil change it goes down to 5k or so like in my case. Actually the mileage at 5% for me was 5200 miles. That's when I changed the oil. You don't need to change your oil at 50%. The car's computer calculates the right interval for the oil change. The oil looks dark after just a few hundred miles. So that's not the right way to tell when the oil change is needed. Just go by the dashboard. I would wait until it shows 10% or less. Otherwise you are wasting your $ and time. Our hondas use full synthetic oil which is rated up to 12k miles. That is what Mobil claims.

    • @bartman464
      @bartman464 7 лет назад
