    Soprano - as Mary
    Dead, what shall I do? Like the Phoenix,
    do I perhaps believe that from my ashes
    my extinct Lord will rise again?
    Ah, I am raving, and now I realize it.
    Let my laments cease; can I think of another remedy?
    I shall cry for vengeance!
    Let lighting bolts fall from the high peaks;
    let the earth split open at such a dreadful deed,
    let the clouds darken at such tyranny!
    Learn from their example, royal offspring, and find the courage
    to be vindicated for the royal death.
    And if a suffering martyr I am destined to be,
    then in my martyrdom I shall cry for vengeance!
    But in vain do I cry for vengeance; the sky does not brandish lightning bolts,
    the earth does not split open, the clouds do not darken,
    the kings do not wreak vengeance. O Heaven, help me! Already my spirit fails me.
    Farewell, palaces; farewell, crowns, scepters;
    Farewell, ceremonies and riches; Farewell, brief and fleeting beauties.
    Alas, I can bear no more! I die, alas! I die, following the shade of my adored King.
    Bass - ends the story
    And saying this, the grieving Queen fell in a swoon and the whispering was heard in this sad hour of her afflicted maidens, who at last erupted in tears, while others wove a mournful song.
