I'm a Michigan fan. I don't get caught up in the rivalry so much. I did more when I was younger (51 now). I just love the game and admire the hard work these athletes put into playing at the their very best each and every weekend during the season. I think we all at the end of the day are fans of football. We appreciate what it takes to play at this level. Congratulations to the Buckeyes on an outstanding season. Great group of young men who handled defeat Saturday with class. I don't like the word defeat. That really applies to those who give up. There is no giving up with OSU players. One team loses according to the scoreboard but all these guys on both teams deserve the respect they earned by leaving it all on the field. Again, congrats Buckeyes and I look forward to watching more games between both programs.

I've noticed the same thing with Marvin. I get the feeling he's had enough of McCord and is ready to move onto the NFL. In contrast, Olave & Wilson always gave 100% when they were on the field. No lackadaisical slow walks back to the huddle.

I think everyone can agree Ryan Day is a fantastic human being. With that said his play calling Saturday was nothing new. All season long play calling was vanilla. I thought, well he’s holding back for the Michigan game. All season long very little pass rush. You guys said it was by design. I think JT and Jack are special players but I feel we have never seen their full potential. Why?? All game I was waiting for those new wrinkles and I only saw Michigan do it. We are kicking 52 yard field goals and they are going for it on 4th down three times. They did that because they felt they had to do it to beat us. They were all invested. All or nothing. I really thought Day had learnt his lesson after last year’s game. We were all in facing Georgia. Butttt his nut sack shrunk and he reverted back to vanilla again. Also on Michigan last drive we should have brought the house and seen if we could get the ball back with more time. Knowles nut sack shrunk. With all that we still damn near won. A little magic and we would have won. I felt all a long we were the better team and I still feel we are. They just wanted it more. That’s what hurts the most.

@@taxisquad11 That sound a little like lazy thinking. Day was OC at BC for only 2 years (14-12 record) before coming to OSU as a Co-OC, and he didn’t call plays that year. The following year he was lone OC in Meyer’s offense. The following year he became HC and installed his offense. He’s been unimaginative in design and predictable in play calling. When their talent is better than 95% of their opponents, they can execute to predictable results. When facing teams with talent that’s just as good, coaching matters both on Saturdays and the week leading up to it. Day has not been successful with any consistency against teams in their hemisphere of talent.

Kirk, am interested in your take. (25 years coaching in Big 10, PAC 12, MAC, small college…Buckeye living in AA.) Don James used to talk about effort habit and effort at the margins. For example, your the backside WR and your assignment is to block the FS in the middle of the field. Odds are it will be difficult to get to FS unless the RB cuts it back. But, if you don’t bust your ass to get there you won’t be there when the cut back does takes place. I continue to see this effort at the margins not taking place. I would guess Marvin looked at the coverage and determined, based on alignment, he wasn’t going to get the ball. Effort at the margin still dictates that you go full speed all the time…then you become a DB and break up the pass. If you are not giving effort all the time this does not happen. The special team I always coached was kick-off coverage. I had one rule, no matter how deep the kick-off went into the end zone you sprinted full speed until you were inside the 10 yard line. During my time there were no fair catches. However, I see players on kick-off coverage for OSU jogging as far out as the 25-30 yard line on a fair catch. It drives me nuts. Is it not being coached that even on a fair catch if the receiver muffs the catch the ball is live. The more players down field the better the chance to cover the ball. This does not happen if you are not giving effort at the margins. I’m not suggesting that players are not playing hard at the point of attack, but boy do I see a lack of effort at the margins. As a DC, we graded the number of players around the ball the moment the BC hits the ground. It’s what I called hats on the ball. This is one of the improvements I’ve seen from the defense this season. Effort at the margins is a coaching thing. Coach Hayes used to say when he was critiquing a coach for the play of one of their players…you’re either coaching it that way or you’re letting it happen. I fear they’re letting this happen in places and that makes all the difference in a game where a play or two can make the difference in the outcome!

Would really like to see us go back to a mobile quarterback. The ability to make plays with your feet to break down defenses is crucial and it’s been why I think we’ve struggled offensively in the game the last few years. Smith, Terrell, Braxton, and Fields all were mobile. All won the game and could avoid a rush and pick up critical yards in critical downs.

I think Frye cobbled together an o-line with a MTN West player at LT, a long-time project at RT, a kid who wasn't AT ALL ready to be a B1G center at center, and two guards who have been here for a while and have been average players and nothing more. I thought they improved throughout the season as a group, but I mostly think that Ryan Day's offensive philosophy SEVERELY hampers ANY o-line coach's ability to develop great run blockers. Any o-line coach who works in Day's QB/WR-driven offense under Day's mandates will have a VERY hard time producing meat grinding o-linemen. Thats just not what Day wants, so I thought Frye did pretty well under those circumstances. Now, that does NOT mean I was happy with the o-line -- they've been unable to consistently run the football since 2020, or virtually since Day took over -- but whoever coaches that unit is being hamstrung by the head coach from day one on the job until the day he leaves (maybe for IU), so I'm not sure why anyone would think another new o-line coach would change anything. What needs to change is Day's offense philosophy... but it won't.

All five offensive linemen graded in the 40s and 50s for this game! What is even worse is that we are not recruiting big boys up front on both sides of the ball! We need to redirect our recruiting efforts to the trenches!!! Look at Georgia, and Alabama’s recruiting classes for 2024, and 2025! They are getting all of the big boys. If we cannot recruit the 4, and 5 star dudes, then we should concentrate on Ohio talent with potential, and develop them over 3-4 years! We have to return to trench warfare!

He is the hard one to let go but how long do u let recruiting fail. Maybe we don’t have enough nil money. We must score 30 plus points against Georgia and Michigan to have a shot at winning.

I said something nice ab Ryan, now it's time to get real. I know a spooked coach when I see it. In The Game & in big game moments. 42 secs UGA. The culture is Gucci bags & Louis Vuitton cleats. It's 1 thing to wear that stuff to the Heisman show or if u're a big-time draft pick but u need dogs & that's not how I would show up for a game especially when it's my rival. I've been bitching ab the QB run for as long as u guys have. It's disgusting, it makes us easy as hell to Game Plan & I think it is cost us at least 2 maybe 3 of these big games. U don't have to run that much when u're playing scrubs but u need to keep sh*t honest & we play with 1 hand tied bh our back on O.

I don't understand wanting to blitz more. Like 2022? Being too aggressive lost us The Game last year. To look at a defense that gave us a chance to drive for the win at the end of the game and want them to do something that didn't work last year, and hasn't worked against Michigan all year (JJ is great against blitz), is so insane to me. The 2 INT's and 3&out after UM went up 24-17 lost the game. Defense played great

We don't need to be more aggressive on defense I agree. We need to be more aggressive on Offense. 4 and 2, 4 and 1 then punt majority of time we end up in those situations in close games is not what we need. He plays it safe and has questionable play calling and questionable decisions. His playing it safe demeanor and questionablity trickles down to Kyle Mcord and has a domino affect. If somebody ask me today what player on the Buckeyes most resembles Days coaching I would say Kyke Mcords. Basically if Days coaching was a individuals college football player it would be Kyle McCord!! Hesitant, not aggressive, can't read a defense, horrible rushing stats when rushing is needed. Also questionable play calling, lack of game control, low Qb IQ when it comes to Qb vision, and bad pocket presence

Playing wise Ohio State would deserve to back into the oasis with a similar final week as last year. I do think with this playoff format you have to give it to another big time program with all things equal. I think Harrison’s effort is symbolic of the team in general. Good overall but not championship for 60 minutes. I think that’s why the SEC has such competitive tabs. High level competition. Ohio State, the past couple years, have just basically had to play Michigan. ND was a good game this year but part of the problem with McCord’s one half production is some type of fire lacking eh the team.

I said from day one, it would all come down to McCord and it did. He sucks. If anything, Our Buckeyes overachieved in the sense that we went 11-1 with a new QB. McCord was average at best and it is unfortunate. The Michigan game was all on McCord. The two picks were game-changers. I like Day and I think he has done a great job. If the kicker had made the FG last year against UGA, we would have won the NATY.

The defense had been solid all season. O-line had improved its passed protection and run game. Kyle McCord remains inconsistent in his passing accuracy, fails to progress through his reads leaving WRs wide open, and unable to adjust in the pocket.
My son and I believed McCord was the X Factor in the “The Game” and could be the one to keep us from reaching the CFP.
While I agree that his statement after the game is true, “it’s just a game” it spoke volumes about his competitiveness. Play the game with some passion or stop playing it all together.

As you said, it was totally blocked up for a good run. Did Kyle change his mind a the last moment and throw to a receiver who was not expecting to receive it?

Its an RPO so it could go either way. Should it have been a give, absolutely. But he doesn't know, his job is to run a hard quick slant and he won't have much separation, that is way you cut hard and you attack the ball. He 100% was the reason that was a pick. Well, he is sitting out the bowl game now, He must have talked to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Nick Bosa....

I called this game 24-20 on other pages last week for UM. I said McCord will throw a INT on final drive or sack-fumble it. I figured we would have 2 in the game and UM would have 1... wish they had that 1 somewhere when they got a TD . maybe that endzone? We lost to #2 now.. should put us at 6.. OR-Wash loser we will jump to 5 so we just need FSU to lose to Louisville.. and wouldn't CFB and the networks LOVE to see UGA vs OSU again for HUGE RATINGS and cause it was so close last year. Question is.. will Lousville show up.. or will $$$$ be behind the scenes given to Louisville by ACC to throw the game so FSU can get in? if FSU gets in .. UGA would win 41-10 if OSU gets in UGA 34 OSU 20 but OSU will be in it still in the 4th quarter.

Even I, as little as I know can see he shouldn't call plays. I can also see the difference in CJ who was completely comfortable in the pocket and Kyle is awkward. I think tgat is the difference between the good ones and the great ones.
