  • This is a great Victor Young tune. It's usually played fairly slowly, but this is an up tempo version. The chord changes make this song interesting to me.

Your improvised version surprise me because it's so originally played, these bass notes and the way you comping around them .
You get out of the basic structure so easy, I'll try to continue learning Stella, thanks a lot!.

Excellent comment. I agree with on all aspects 100%! It demonstrates a thorough understanding of harmony, rhythms and above all a wonderful sense of self-expression through music. This is a confident performance with advanced jazz techniques, musically satisfying and accessible.

I love the walking bass section and the comping in general. It's a great change of pace from the "locked-hands" approach most guys use who interpret this style. I salute your courage to try a different way.

You make it sound so effortless. When I see your playing, I see as musician that have amazing sensibilities but also great control over what you are doing. Each note seems really well thought out and yet nothing sounds mechanical. Would love to play someday like you do.

How can some people dislike this!!!? Jazz is a personal creative art form. Great playing, enjoyed it very much. Would have been a thrill hearing it live next to you; the piano has such a beautiful harmonic nature that you can spend hours with it. By the way, i'm not a piano player, but when you study music and you're in the practice rooms, its sound is so hipnotizing and relaxing. Shame on the dislikes.

Good question - well written MrMichael4567. The way to practice is always an interesting part of the subject and you state the problem with an example that challenges.....I like to practice scales and playing songs in different keys, but there may be a another good step as you suggest. Fooling around with chords and searching for sounds one finds and likes is good, but somewhat hit or miss perhaps in contrast to a more rigorous approach. What do other people think ?

Fantastic, this is exaclty what I want to learn. My question is what is the practice routine that brought you at this level? Transcribing? Practicing scales? Or just playing the song and improvise, creating your own style? And this moment I'm playing this standard for hours and hours but It will never sound as good as your performance.

Hi 7note. I have the knack for playing the piano but when I was young I didn't study the keyboard and I keep missing notes when I learn by ear. I keep missing notes even after going over it for months. I have an excellent ear for music. I play guitar. I don't read music but I'm learning. My question: How can I keep from missing notes? I played the guitar all my life and have the same problem. Will reading music help?
