  • In today's video, I unbox a couple of new lawn care tools and talk about why I picked them up.
    Are they really key to having a great lawn? What impact will they have on my lawns this year?

    I bought these exact products last year. They are both brilliant.

    I cant wait to follow along. Im now 1 year in my new build house and i need to tackle to compact clay back garden this year. My plan is to aerate and level with top soil around the start of March

      Sounds good! Aerating will be key, and getting down some decent top soil too! Good luck with it 👍🏻

    Congrats on the lanzie spreader. I love mine, well worth the money just for the time it saves let alone how it screens out the bigger lumps. Will look at the swardman aerator. Maybe my 2024 purchase as I have a similar lawn soil to you I think and recent rains are leaving big puddles.

      I’ve seen a lot of good stuff about it online. I always end up with big twigs on the lawn when I rake compost out which is a nightmare for mower blades!

    I have the spreader and it's great! I had a hollow tine aerator and I found the bits of soil just kept getting stuck, now I just have a spiked one from amazon. Much better and quicker.

      @@neilbroome2587 we just got 3 big bags from B&M that worked fine. Used one bag and mix the seed in with it. Then used another bag to go over top of it. All used in the spreader as well. Very nice to use. :)

    Best get a stockpile of compost in before the peat ban kicks in 😁. If you are going to use that when overseeding make sure your compost is bone dry as I have that spreader and it does tend to clog if the compost is damp, unfortunately most places store bagged compost outside. Any plans for planting some flowering climbers on that back wall ? as that really lets your garden down

      I’ve got a plan for the back wall. Going to put a flower bed at the back so that we can cover it that way. Hoping to sort it over Easter 👍🏻

    Got one (not landzie ) for £59.99. From a well known online site today, need to wait till weather is better to give it a go. Same as you, compulsive purchase. Missus not happy 😂

    I've got an Amazon hollow tine aerator and I think it's great, the only thing I'd say is that a lot depends on when you do it, e.g. too much rain and the soil will just clog up the tines and not eject anymore (you can still make holes though), too little rain and the soil will be rock solid and you'll struggle to get it in. Overall I've found the device to be great, it's just you need to be aware of the soil firmness for it to work as intended.

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  3 месяца назад +1

      That’s true. Hoping to use it for the first time around mid-March. Fingers crossed the ground is ok by then 🤞

    • @David-wh7rm
      @David-wh7rm 3 месяца назад

      @@NoviceGardener heads up, you need to run water through the tines after use to get the soil out, if you don't it'll harden and be very difficult to clear. Also ideally you'd coat the inside of the tines with something like Niwaki Camellia Oil

    I personally think it’s a luxury getting the compost spreader as your lawns are quite small.
    I have quite a large lawn and would think twice spending £150.
    When I’m top dressing or re-seeding I mix Jacks Magic and top soil together in a wheelbarrow and then just use a riddle to spread on the lawn.
    OK it takes longer than the compost spreader but I just take my time.

    I've found that Garden Imports are always very expensive. They do sell some good kit. But they certainly know how to charge! The compost spreader for instance. You can pick those up for around £70 pretty much anywhere now. Despite what the seller may say there all pretty much exactly the same in terms of quality and ease of use. The compost spreader in particular is a great tool tho. It saves time and ensures you put an even layer of soil or compost down whilst keeping any big stones etc out of the lawn. Both good purchases tho. You'll definitely enjoy using them I think.

      I noticed this yesterday - didn’t even think to check for a cheaper alternative when I bought this as nothing of the sort was out last year. May have to pick that up as well and compare - 2 compost spreaders isn’t too much, right? 😅
