Awesome instructions… bought my daughter’s 2015 RAV4, she didn’t need a vehicle anymore and your instructional video was perfect…. As matter fact, I had the vehicle serviced they wanted like $55 or $59 to put a new filter in…. I purchased two from an automotive store for $13 and just popped a new one in thanks so much. Your video was excellent. Greg
Perfect, fast, accurate thank you! The oil change place wanted $54 to change the cabin filter, I got two from Amazon for $12 and swapped it out myself in 10 minutes. Thank you!
Thank you for providing all of the Toyota RAV4 Owners with this useful video. Much appreciated as it was a piece of cake to replace and install a new Cabin Air Filter.
Very helpful. I was caught unguarded, confused and frustrated when saw the two kinds of arrows. Tried the $@!# manual and that $@!# manual didn't tell me which is the airflow direction. Then I found it writes "airflow downwards" on the case of the filter and I did it according to the instruction but I'm not sure since it's not a RAV4 specific model. I had to leave that **** cellphone signal-less underground parkade. Finally I saw your video and relieved. Thanks a lot!
The reason the cover goes on with the arrow on it pointing up is due to the two prongs on the back of the cover. Those prongs hold the filter up against the top of the filter housing in it's proper position.
Thank you for the video. The video is very detail showed all steps and after seeing it I was confident that I can do it by myself. And I successfully changed the cabin filter and you saved my money . Really appreciate and God bless .
Damn I installed my new filter last year with the airflow arrow pointing up to match the up arrow on the cover. That explains why only one side of the filter is dirty and it smells when it rains. Glad I know now for my new filter coming next week
Thanks for the video, but I'm hoping you can help me with an issue. When I put my glove box back in and closed it, now it won't open. Please, if you know what I can do to open it I will be forever thankful.
Thanks..! Now i know what happen….., i put it upside instead downside. After watch this video, i run to flip downside like a pancake in a pan. Thanks…!!
This one is a breeze to replace it. All clear and accessible. I’ve changed it for a Murano and it’s in a very right spot and cannot see or guarantee that the filter is going to properly cover all the flow area, I just hope that it’ll expand out and fit where it should.
Interesting enough but what difference would it make in the airflow if the filter is installed upside down? Would it void the warranty? or cause mold and mildew? Is the manufacturing process of these filters inherently different on the top side vs bottom?
According to this video the filter has several layers with different size holes.. www.underhoodservice.com/video-what-happens-when-you-install-an-air-filter-backward/
Why would wording (directional air flow reference) and arrow point, be opposite? That is what makes it confusing. My rav’s filter cover has ⬆️…while the Purolator filter has ⬇️ with wording right side up. If I turn it over to read it, then I have the ⬇️. I was told by auto parts store and Toyota dealer to have filter’s arrow ⬆️, regardless. 🤷🏻♂️
I have a 2020 CRV and have the same issue with my filter cover and air flow. The cover has the ⬆on the front. However the blower motor has an airflow indicator pointing ⬇ This can be a little bit confusing but as you pointed out airflow is the key in this situation. Good news is if you install it upside down it isn't going to damage anything, it will just clog and need to be replaced much faster.
I don't understand why you guys always get the airflow wrong. The air flows upward, not downward (in the 2017 RA4 and probably all the others). You can test this for yourself by running the AC with the filter removed and sticking your fingers into the space where the filter goes. The air clearly is moving upward. Also, the vents are above the filter, so how could the airflow being going downward anyway?
@@tongo117 In my case, when the arrow is correct I cannot seem to get it to fit in nicely without forcing and breaking the filter but if I turn it upside down, one of the angle fits very well. I double checked it is the correct filter as well. Oh well 😬
Thanks for the video! The after market filter I bought only have an arrow with no description, any thought ? It's carbon activated filter, so the arrow up pointing to the carbon side. Thanks!
If it doesn't say up or air flow next to the arrow then by default an arrow on an air filter represents air flow direction. WIX is one brand that does this and I've confirmed with them that it should point in the direction of air flow.
Well, I found out I have been installing my after market cabin airlifters upside down for the last few years, thanks to Toyota and their stupid arrow on the face plate. I have it right now, after looking a the filter and the word AIR FLOW and the direction of the arrow. it is an easy mistake to make.
The Fram filter I used was the same size as the original Toyota filter.. www.autozone.com/filters-and-pcv/cabin-air-filter/p/fram-freshbreeze-cabin-air-filter-cf10285/448149_0_0
My Toyota dealer told be today it would be $50 to replace mine. I’m doing it myself. Great video!
I spent an hour trying to find which side to go with the after market filter. Thanks man your video is really helpful.
Glad to help.. Thanks for reply..

Thank you sir

Thanks for the video man! Very helpful
You're welcome..
I don’t know if this question was asked already but why did you have to remove the glove box if the cabin air filter is located in the actual engine ?
Engine air filter is located in the engine compartment.. Cabin air filter is behind glove box as shown in video..

Nice informative video. One question, do you have to install the filter with the wording side facing you? Or it does not matter?
Wording does not matter as long as your arrow is facing in the right direction..
@@tongo117 In my case, when the arrow is correct I cannot seem to get it to fit in nicely without forcing and breaking the filter but if I turn it upside down, one of the angle fits very well. I double checked it is the correct filter as well. Oh well 😬
Very useful info. Thanks mate.

I admit I was confused for awhile with my Camry, which can take that same Fram filter size. I wonder if the K & N filter is worth it?
Thank you. Saved me self $15.00

I got this same exact Fram Filter but there is no writing at all on it. The ends are a thick grey. No arrow, no words, nothing.

You get this done at Valvelene or your dealer and it’s like $80-$90 bucks! Seriously???
Unfortunately, yes..
You put in the wrong size filter.
The Fram filter I used was the same size as the original Toyota filter..
