Thanks to your information on how gold form and how it came about with the hot water that made gold not grow to nuggets...was my missing link to finding the mother lode....Now mine for the taking...Thank God for people like you who share the secrets to finding GOLD..
I can say iam addicted to rock collecting. Having a very addictive personality I will go completely into something and completely just live this night and day. It's been 6 weeks into this completely new hobby, I love it so much I've filled up three bedrooms of amazing quartz crystals iam now going almost every day mostly at night dont know why I like it at night so much , I seem to find better stuff at night. Your videos are amazingly interesting and definitely informative going to buy your book so I can really get to the deepness of my knew love. My roommates are worried about having to much weight on the second floor causing structural problems. Thank you sir who you are makes a difference.
JoeMacPlumbing I too hunt at night. I’ve done it for years. For one thing, its cooler. You do have to watch around yourself a bit more for animals, snakes, holes, thorns and what not... You will go through more batteries for your headlight too. But I do love night hunting. Good luck. Oh, one other thing: if you have a college nearby, enroll in geology 101. Then take as many field classes as you can... G 101 is tough, but after you get through that, it gets better.
You may be a prospector, but I think you are a college Geology Professor. I took Physical Geology in College in 1971 and this video took me back there. I could identify 80% percent of the samples in this video quite easily. I received your book and will be into both the videos and the book. I've collected rocks for 50 years. You would be one of the few people that could identify my house landscaping. At my house you can find my mineral samples plus Upper Devonian trilobites, crinoids, braciopods, eurypterids, ferns and fish fossils. Keep it up professor, we are watching. LOL !
Thanks for the info. My wife, four young kids, and I would like to do a little panning and hiking while on trips. This and your other info will help us to maybe have a little success. Just as with fishing, they get super excited even if they caught the tiniest fish (indeed that is one of the "awards"), so even just finding a few flakes would be exciting.

@@ChrisRalph Thank you. I've watched a bunch, and learned a lot! Your videos are great! With my new found knowledge, I'm just waiting out the weather and temperature to go hunting here in Norway. Would be amazing to find some, even though all the gold still in rock belongs to the crown.

All this knowledge for free is priceless and i thank you from the bottom of my heart :} Best of luck to you in 2020. I will be getting your book soon i am sure.
I love them! I plan to get your book in the next month or 2. What would consider the best starting purchase in terms of a tool after gaining knowledge, learning methodology and geological science and local host rocks etc. My first thought would be a great metal detector. After the obvious pick, shovel and classifiers. What are your thoughts if you don't mind offering your advice?
Metal detectors are the hardest thing to learn to find gold with. So I recommend a pan and digging tools. learn to find gold first, then learn to find gold with a metal detector later.
Hey love the video. Prospecting southern Az. Gold areas near southern border due south of Tucson. Known gold and silver areas. Been out quite a few times and found some gold in quartz. Need to prospect for better spots. Love the hunt!! Any tips we have been looking in old ghost towns where silver and GOLD were known to be found. Thanks.
There are a number of gold districts in that part of AZ. Do some research to learn about them. Search on Google for "Placer gold deposits of Arizona by Maureen Johnson". If you look carefully, you will be able to download a copy for free.

So I just made it to part 3 and this was awesome, I also want to say I live in Ohio so finding nuggets are slim to none I have to hunt down flour gold. I like your videos very interesting. Thank you for sharing the knowledge. Also I would like to know if you ever worked the San Gabriel Canyon area? And if so could you give me an idea of a good area up there
I worked there in the late 1970s, and the rules have changed wildly since. I dont know what the current rules allow or not, so you will need to find out for yourself.
Chris Nathan here from Australia . Your stuff is very interesting . My son who is 7 is right into his gold prospecting which is great as its a good reason to get out camping . Mate very new to this stuff but we want to head to Sofala and hill end . This video was very helpful to me as I'm a beginner on all this. I struck an area on my land that host a lot of schist and a large vein of a shiny material. Of which it looks like Galena . So I had it assayed and it came back with gold , platinum and nickel and lead and lots of copper. Is this a leverite vein? Or is it worth mining? Chalcopirite is a host in it as well. That I can tell. Silver is on the chart too. Some looks like gold when I break the rock. But? Maybe fools gold? I enjoy your videos.
Hey professor, I'm 14 minutes in and we're talking about the green stone. As you may have read in a previous comment this morning I have access to a couple creeks. The creek I'm in now has these big ancient rocks that are jetting out of the ground and cracks have formed and are currently continuing to form throughout the 3 dozen or so boulders. I thought maybe these huge boulders where sedimentary minimally and possibly full metamorphic. I chipped some pieces off as I tried to get in some of the cracks. Is there a way to determine older cracks from more recent cracks? Wondering as I feel the old-timers in North Carolina probably cleaned out the older cracks. Also there is a ton of a crystal based rock that has deep orange colors which is iron, as I just learned.... Are you saying they all have some gold in it? I can crack a rock and see distinct lines of the iron but can't necessarily see gold. Some of the crystal formation has a gold color? Never mind I'll buy your book if it discusses this stuff.
My apologies that 14 minutes is too much of your time to invest learning a new skill. Learning anything worthwhile takes time and effort to learn. Did you learn the skills you employ in your work in less than 14 minutes? Nowhere in the video do I say that all orange rocks have gold, I have no idea where you got that thought. The book discusses the stuff you need to know, but if 14 minutes is all you have, the book is more than 350 pages long and will take a lot more than 14 minutes to read. Seriously, finding gold is a skill, and it takes time to learn and get good at. No, you cant tell old cracks from new ones, but the cracks along the creeks get re-filled over time. Ones that were worked in the 1800s will have new gold in them put in by floods over the last 150+ years. Ones cleaned out 2 years ago wont likely have much as they have not had much time.
@@ChrisRalph I think you misunderstand my comment..... I'm absolutely enthralled and excited about what you are saying. I was asking questions so fast that I wasn't even giving it time because you were answering the questions. You're totally misreading my comments sir. I want to talk to a geologist so bad. I listen to all your videos I'm taking geology 101.... I was excited to ask you some questions my man. You have a wealth of information. I don't know why you think I was being rude or dismissive regarding your wealth of information
@@ChrisRalph if it was me saying never mind I'll buy your book it was because I felt like I was imposing upon you with my excitement. And I thought I'll just buy your book. I want to learn everything. No, I actually have to spend hours learning my trade. I've also learned to play the guitar fingerstyle and have learned to draw in the past year. I'm so excited about gold hunting and prospecting what you experienced was just a very excited version of me. I'm 50 years old and I was really excited this morning I was up all night watching your videos. All right man I hope you understand or go back and read my comment because I was not thinking you were wasting my time or whatever it is you're implying. I wish I had a phone call with you right now so I can ask you questions I wish I could send you pictures so you could tell me what it is I'm looking at. You totally misunderstood me anyways have a good night sir I'm on my way home from work I'm sorry if that had a negative impact on your day.
@@ChrisRalph I understand now. I only pointed out that I was 14 minutes in because of the rock that you were discussing so that you would have a reference point. Thanks for answering some of my questions. I would have to go back and look but it was like a pseudo morphic Rock the green Sandstone that you were discussing 14 minutes in. I'll have to review the video because I watched so many last night. I was only pointing out the 14 minutes because that's when you were discussing the rock that peaked my curiosity
Hi Chris my boyfriend got a rock from his father, he said it was float copper well he cleaned it up and it was not. He brought it to Michigan tech and they took a sample well it come back mohhkite. I get so many, many requests for personal help, advice, training, review, mineral ID, etc. - every day - I simply cannot get involved with all the requests. I have plenty of my own projects to work on. Best of luck to you.
Great videos Chris. Q: Is there a significant market for some of the other non-gold minerals mentioned in this video? Of course the popular garnets, rubys, saffires can be valuable but what about if I were to find some really great calcite or mica specimens. Are there any known industrial purchasers for these? (I'm in southern Nevada)
Love your content, but just as a side note. Litterature tells us that fluoride in toothpaste(or drinkable water) comes from a toxic waste (fluoridric acid) that is a byproduct of industrial fertilizer.
At a gem club meeting a member had a rock no one could identify ,the owner thought it was a meteorite, I knew right away it was not it was very heavy and magnetic but was full of holes . From your images I can tell it was basalt

I found 6 or 7 different colors of obsidien.
White, Black mix, blues , them green, some looked like, light jade, to dark evergreens.
Good for cutting tools.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
My is a glass, with very transparent
Mixed with yellows too.
Bands, and it travels around the whole stone from top to bottom.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Dude, I'm getting out my detector! Just in time for a winter storm! Dumb brain! I had negatively thought the fires and plague wouldve ruined any chance of gold. its fascinating,Now I got the bug again Chris! I just can't help it ! Gotta watch your vids, read your literature, I'm compelled!
Well, when the weather warms, hit the road and get out there. Best of Luck to you!
Great series and so is your book
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Looking at google maps etc is there somewhere you can point me to where you would think looks like a good place to prospect or a few spots . And why kind regards Nathan just want to make his trip as productive as possible
Mate, Ive prospected around WA, but never in Victoria state. So I dont have much to suggest.
Alway good. Cheers👍
Thanks for the visit, glad you enjoyed the video.
Thank your mate cheers very helpful
Glad it helped.
Prospecting in santa cruz cty. Southern az. Any tips for that county in az. Prospecting near the famius Sierra Colorado mtns. Known silver and gold areas.
There are a number of gold districts in that part of AZ. Do some research to learn about them. Search on Google for "Placer gold deposits of Arizona by Maureen Johnson". If you look carefully, you will be able to download a copy for free.
Great channel. What do we do with the gold after we find it?
Keep it, display it as a trophy, sell it - do whatever you want.
Lots of questions there that would take weeks to answer. Best of luck to you.
Awsome video!
Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed the video.
good stuff, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Chris my boyfriend got a rock from his father, he said it was float copper well he cleaned it up and it was not. He brought it to Michigan tech and they took a sample well it come back mohhkite. Very, very rare. Anyway we were wondering if you could send us in the right direction and sell. Thank you Tim and mel...9lbs mohhkite
Use Google to find people who sell mineral specimens, then make some phone calls. I get so many, many requests for personal help, advice, training, review, mineral ID, etc. - every day - I simply cannot get involved with all the requests. I have plenty of my own projects to work on. Best of luck to you.
@@ChrisRalph thank you. Love your show!
Great experience
It really is useful information.
By the way..what method would you use to collect gold too small to see with the naked eye...???THANKS
Thiosulfide leaching. I will have videos on this eventually.
Very informative thank you ........
Glad it was helpful and you enjoyed the video.
Yes there can be but only for beautiful crystal specimens, not just rocks. Use Google to find some for sale to see examples.
@@ChrisRalph Okay, Thanks.
Luster? I keep trying but she always shuts me down! 😉😁😅😅
🖖😎👍
Hmmmmm........
Love your content, but just as a side note. Litterature tells us that fluoride in toothpaste(or drinkable water) comes from a toxic waste (fluoridric acid) that is a byproduct of industrial fertilizer.
You are misinformed. It comes from a mineral - fluorite - that is naturally occurring.

At a gem club meeting a member had a rock no one could identify ,the owner thought it was a meteorite, I knew right away it was not it was very heavy and magnetic but was full of holes . From your images I can tell it was basalt
sure sounds like you were right that it is basalt.
Thank you from Australia
I really enjoyed my visit to Australia a few years back.
Chris Ralph, Professional Prospector you should come to the detecting championship at Gympie, nth of brisbane. 10 ounce bullion is the main gate prize, check it out. world meteal detecting championship page.
Appreciated for your lesson chris hope to learn more from you
Glad you enjoyed it, More videos to come!
hai, thanks for all infomation that your kindly uploaded. for me watch ur 1st video till laters vid it was very2 helpful for me to learn and understand how to get or mine a gold. i just want to know how to buy your book, because im from borneo malaysia, did you sell it on any shoping online market?
The book is available through amazon...Glad you liked the video.
Good Book Ralph could use some colored pictures “ Just my opinion “
What do you call a guy who has never done anything, but considers himself an expert on everything that he actually knows nothing about - Buster Worley.
@@ChrisRalph this might be “just my opinion” but a fella coulda been forgiven for thinkin’ ol’ Worley there was petitioning for a coloring book...😀🤔😁😅😅

A mineral is an element or groups of elements that form an inorganic crystalline solid. Every mineral has a definite internal structure and an ordinary crystalline structure. Plus the interconsistency of interfacial angles. Geology 4
Supposed to say ordinary geometric pattern.
Make your own videos, mate.
Heading to big bend country b.c Canada this weekend..
Good luck in your prospecting efforts.
Thanks will let you know how it works out.. there has been tons of gold taken for the area. Hopefully there’s a bit leftover.. I have been knee deep in maps hahahaha
Is there anyway we can email you with questions? I have a picture of a rock which i cant post here i would info on it
I appreciate your request, but I get many, many requests for personal help and assistance every day from all over the world. I have a lot on my plate and I just cannot help beyond my videos themselves. Watch this video and learn to identify minerals for yourself. See: ruclips.net/video/MpkW58ZeQlc/видео.html
Totally understandable thanks !
Mi. , has Leland Blue Slag.
And a New Stone found in Lk, Spr. , called LOOPERLITE, night time hunting only !
With Blk. Light.
No has a state 2 stone is Greenstone. I have a small piece.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
If Rocks glow purple, orange, and red after it rains, do u think thats a good place to look?
Not necessarily, they are unrelated.
@@ChrisRalph i started watching your videos because the rocks on my property glow like that and i noticed a lot of metallic minerals. And everything is pointing to invisible gold. It's really wild what is going on where I'm looking. A lot of needle like gold. Thanks for the help
Get an assay done to tell you if there is gold or not.
On that one dark crystal...it is a "Diametrically Opposed" cyclical formation.
Yep.
@@ChrisRalph I am flattered by the response. I want to buy your book. Amazon has it. I love the geology of it all. The physics is a bonus. God bless and godspeed, brother.
Ahhh...now we're getting into the nitty gritty.
Too bad you occasionally mix up your left from your right.
I have some material that I need help Identifying. I thing it is gold bearing material and I am looking to see if anyone can help me identify the material.
Sorry. I get so many requests I cannot offer a service to ID pictures. Take a look at my video on how to identify minerals for yourself.
Is greenstone magnetic? What about bluestone?
No, not magnetic.
@@ChrisRalph i think i found maybe bluestone. Ill send you a small piece of it if you want to check it out and possibly identify it.
Mi. Rocks, stones mix with everthing. Gold too !

Are you hiring do you have any jobs available? I’ve been a plumber for the last 10 years on my own company for the last five. Just went through a nasty separation she took a lot of stuff. I’m not wanting to run my business anymore I’d really like to go dig somewhere I can dig better than anybody you’ve ever met. I learned prospecting I’ve always been fascinated with geology
I am not a company and I am not hiring.
Cris, the more I try to understand the more confusing to me. Gonna keep watching though
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Chris, Is there anything special to look for at Devil’s Post Pile in California ? I live in CA so it would be somewhat close to go there. Your videos are so interesting and educational. You explain things clearly with pictures so you cover it all. 💜❤️💜❤️😍😍 ALL OF IT !! Thanks a million
Interesting to look at but its a national monument, you cannot pick up any rocks. No gold or any other valuable minerals there anyway, its just a very interesting rock formation.

Really like the information in your videos, but can you wake up a bit? That lovely gentle monotone is enough to put a gamer up on a gallon of Red Bull to sleep.....and I'd rather not sleep through this, thank you.... :)

Great voice. Too much inflection is irritating 😠.
Your volume is way to low
That is one of my oldest videos, I've gotten better at editing and the newer ones dont have that problem. Turn your volume up!
Too many adverts...
Please complain to Google - they control how many adverts appear.
"SPEAK UP" I COULD BARELY HEAR YOU !!!
Like 1 percent of viewers have this problems and I'm not sure what causes it.
Yeah but you don't show your video of you digging it out all you doing is telling people how to do it a lot of people like to see how you do it you're trying to make money off of people Vici RUclips channel with words most people on the RUclips channel like to see somebody working the dirt and proven what he's talkin about you don't do that so I don't want your channel because of that
Then watch a different video guy ...good job of giving knowledge..cris
