Being a band member in Maroon 5 is one of the best gigs in the business. Make records, tour, get paid… yet no one on Earth could ever pick you out of a lineup. If you’re in the grocery store and a song comes on, you could yell, “That singer sounds like a real $”@&!” No one would know.

The rest of us COULD pick Justin out of a lineup. In fact, he made records, toured, got paid, and now has one of the fastest growing youtube channels. AND, we haven't seen weeks of reports of Justin cheating on his pregnant wife, like that maroon 5 douche. Just because you're brain damaged and would suck off any Maroon 5 member doesn't mean the rest of us would. I wouldn't be able to pick any member of that group out of a lineup for my life! They literally only appeal to pathetic women who don't have better taste.

Oh, shiny new (to me) guitar! Truthfully Adam Levine is the visual representation of the word creeper. There’s something so slimy about him. I vividly remember this young girl busking outside our local supermarket, doing the most god awful Maroon 5 set from Songs About Jane, full of angst, trills, vocal fry, voice cracks, it was truly horrendous, and hearing the lyrics in the context of her voice was so gross, I’ve never really been able to listen to them since. Maroon 5 was my fav band for so long with some of my all time fave songs. This Love specifically is always going to be my number 1., she will be loved 2, and a few others in the top ten.
But I could tell with each album they digressed further away from what made them special to me. The melancholy, kind of dark lyrics with a sense of loss/heartbreak, the funky base and bright electric guitar of James, it felt like a such a unique formula. There’s hints of it but it became more synthesized and “poppy.”
Which was fine, they still had really fun pop bangers and some obscure titles that hit deep emotionally. Moves Like Jagger is like an inflection point, because it still has that James Valentine funky/reggae riff, but they production and lyrics are generic and the sound over produced.
Now it’s just like we all say, it sounds like Levine with background music . Not much of any guitar/band emphasis.
It’s just really disappointing because we know what they’re capable of, and they treat their “band” like a cash cow at this point.

I quickly moved back to mostly European bands- until my daughter came home from school singing Teenagers by MCR. Today, it's a lot like listening to a cover band, because stylistically they are all over the map because it's mostly from other people.

I really liked Maroon 5 years ago when they released "This love" and "Sunday Morning". But now they just write trash that will hopefully sell... Terrible musicianship right there. Thanks Justin and keep up this amazing content. Love it

Living in a sharehouse circa 2003-4 with a massive Maroon 5 fan who had a state of the art sound system was *Challenging*. I hate Adam Levine as a result. I lasted 3 months in that sharehouse.

    Short answer: yes.
    Popular often doesn't equal good.
On the other hand, this song does sound familiar. I never knew the title or who performed it, but it sounds ok.

They were a good band at first. That first album was like you said raw & natural. Even songs like "she will be loved" was a good song nice chords. Well played they are good musician's & he does have a good voice.
But they or the record company wanted more hits. So other writer's were brought in & they changed their sound.
With stuff like the other one you did. & That song about being in a phone booth trying to phone home. Don't remember the name.
But they became very big. And if that's what they wanted. Then it worked.

This song was charting right around the same time as "I believe in a thing called love". The "videos" (if you remember when they played those on TV) were also getting rotation in that same time period. This wasn't my favorite style of music but I dug it for sure.

I don't mind the song, but only because of Christina, who was the best part. Won't hold my breath, but wouldn't mind seeing an honest fair review of her song "No Es Que Te Extrañe" that she released last year. She just won a Latin Grammy for her latest work. Still better than all her contemporaries and hasn't needed any vocal surgery because she appears to know what she's doing.

The first album especially is great. Some fantastic funk and rock and jazz chords in the mix. They just moved in a really bad direction and collaborations. Mutt Lange had a hand in the hands all over album (excuse the pun!) and no surprises I thought that was good too.
