She was overscored all the time . Albertville 1992, Oakland 1992, at the Us nationals 1993, here at this competition. And when she deserved the gold in 1994 at Lillheammer , she did not have 😂
it’s all right Nancy you skated wonderful out there I feel bad for her I would give her a hug 🤗 to cheer her up and tell her it’s okay you look great 😊💜💚🖤💗💛❤💙💐🌹🌹🌷🌷
At least Nancy was bluntly honest in her assessment of her mental state.. this program content and composition wise was the best of her career; a shame she never skated it clean as this program clean would’ve been unbeatable
I just watched this twice again. If I were her coaches, I would have actually been encouraged with this performance, because it came after the lackluster national win and the disastrous world's 5th place finish. Yes, she made a lot of mistakes here, but the overall quality of the program was still, I think, quite good. She's skating this program with good speed and energy and she fought, at least until the double axel, when the life seemed to have drained out of her. But I noticed she got the wally wally triple salchow, she did a triple toe, and I think that was a triple loop that she just barely hung on to. I can easily understand her missing the triple flip & the triple lutz in the wake of her world performance. She probably could have won this program with her 3 completed triples, but she would have had to have landed that double axel. If she hadn't of wanted to fight, she wouldn't have attempted all the triples. Also, her spins were very good in this program. To me this performance wasn't a diasaster. It was a tremendously flawed program in the jump department, but still very strong in all other areas. Her glide across the ice was strong & secure (her edging great), her spins very good, her moves in the field very good and her overall speed and energy very good. I would have liked to have seen her technical program from this competition.
@@3Axel1996 Yes, I did know about Vera Wang being a great designer. However, I did not know she was a former ice skater. Thanks for informing me of this.
@@rolandgreen7484 She never ever skated a clean long program. She did put down some lovely short programs! If you really think this was a gold winning performance, I'm convinced you're her cousin!
She also got a 5.7 and 5.8 for artistic impression in the 1993 Worlds, where her program was quite a mess as well as doubling 2 jumps. Both performances were hard to watch, but no way does she deserve those scores. Had she been scored fairly, she would've had 4.7-4.9s for this performance
This is sad to see. What do they mean when they say she's tired of "outside obligations" and that she "just wants to be left alone to skate?" She certainly didn't have to sign up for every single endorsement and commercial that she was asked to do (but she did it anyway). I'm not really sure if there's anyone else to blame. Most skaters would die to have such opportunities.
Matthew C That's BS about Kerrigan's outside "distractions". These commitments are what helped fund Kerrigan's expenses including paying for her own coaches, travel and hotel expenses. Certainly don't hear Kerrigan complaining about THAT!! Again, just further shows what a whiner Kerrigan was. Btw-- she had two really UGLY falls here onto the ice.
She did attempt more difficult triple jumps than the other ladies in this competition. Caryn Kadavy won with clean jumps, but the jumps were simpler. Gotta give Nancy credit for that.
How unfair to the other skaters for her to get those high marks when she had those falls....She was slow and she had no passion to be out there. 🤷🏻♀️⛸
I know she was the favorite to win, but she didn't deserve to even be in the top 3. I don't enjoy Nancy's skating, but I feel really bad for her here, and I'm glad she skated one of her bests in Lilihammer
She was not skating slowly. Until the double axel, she was skating with good speed, and good energy, and her spins and moves in the field were excellent.
I never realized how much she had in common with Sasha Cohen in the consistency realm. One thing she doesn’t have in common is being in shape. Nancy wasn’t until Lillehammer
@mlc2005 Part of it was what was expected of a national champion, and part was Public Relations strategy. You didn't want to be given a reputation and bad press that you were a selfish and unfriendly champion for not wanting to do any interviews, appearances or exhibitions...
Her spins are slow and boring, not to mention all this falls. I am baffled how she got this high scores, not only in this competition but in any other, when there were more skilled skaters then her
Nancy really should have skated to another program here, because this program was already too damaging from the difficult moment at the 93 World's. However, you have to give her credit for going out there to skate to this again, and I'm sure she believed in this program and wanted to at least perform it one more time (last pass at it) in a good way.
I don't know why her coaches Evy and Mary Scotvold never changed that opening triple flip jump to another jump. Kerrigan has fallen on that triple flip 90% of her programs (including here--an ugly fall!) or she chickens out into a double flip. It certainly didn't help Kerrigan's confidence. Sometimes gotta wonder if switching coaches might've helped Nancy's skating.
She needed that jump on the Olympic level but for a Pro-Am competition, it was a foolish choice. Nobody else was skating to that level. Kadavy's Loop was a "surprise", everybody else stuck to mainly Toes and Salchows. So what was she trying to prove? She was no good at the Flip, it was her worst jump -- so let's add it when we don't need it. Unfortunately, Kerrigan was just so inconsistent and such a head case that who knows if omitting it would have even helped.
Imagine if she were a skater today! She would be a joke compared to the skaters of today. Even back then she was a slow skater, stiff with no artistic talent. Oksana deserved the gold over her. Every time!✌
Beautiful costume. Too bad it all ends there. The scores are a joke. No way three big falls a double lutz and a hand down are anything above a 5.1. Those are four major deductions right there. And the artistic is a joke. What the heck, she looked tentative and terrified and like a graceful flop.
For someone that supposedly came from a middle class background, she sure did act like a spoiled princess. I never understood why, at 20 plus, she always skated to Disney music. It came off as really really strange.
Matthew C I think there were a few reasons for skating to Disney music. 1. She stated often that she hated classical music & this would be more acceptable to the judges than Instrumental pop/rock music. 2. This music was very popular & a lot of girls would’ve chosen it. 3. She was already being held up as the next Olympic gold medalist & this was a ploy to get a Disney endorsement. 4. It was also rumored that she was a little immature for her age. I’m NOT bashing her, but even her coaches had hinted that her upbringing made her that way. I guess she was babied.
I think, for the time, doing Disney was very smart. It helped her build a brand with children who might want to see her skate in a show. It's perfect for an American telecast -- what's more quintessential American than Disney? And the hordes of young girls who probably wore out their cassette soundtracks of it? For the year, ideal choice. I think that was one of her smartest moves ever was to use this music. But she didn't "feel" it. It should have been magical but it was ALWAYS flat.
This was a US Pro-Am (Professional/Olympic Ineligible vs. Amateur/Olympic Eligible) competition and the rules for judging were not the same as those used for ISU-sanctioned events. That's why the scores were more generous than they should have been.

I always learn so much about skating from your videos. We are all so grateful for your posting them!

She wears the best outfits. I love watching her skate. She is so lovely.
Most of them were designed by former figure skater, Vera Wang.

5.7 for technical and 5.9 artistic? Wow, that's favoritism at it's worst :(
She could probably crawl on skates the whole performance and these biased ass judges would give America's little sweetheart high marks.
@@rolandgreen7484 A double Axel doesn't matter? Rationalizing? You must be a relative of hers!

I love that uncomfortable conversation about her being uncomfortable at 3:10..

Especially Oksana Bauil. At least she appreciated what she was given.
Well atleast she was at one point. Now she is suing everyone, but I think that is the bad influence of her bad news hubby.

5.7 ? Wtf
If other skaters did this they would receive 4.8’s
Exactly, the score inflations here are even more obvious than Adelina Sotnikova's win in Sochi
Caryn was understandably quite excited at having won the Hershey's Pro-Am!
How did Nancy finish 2nd with 3 falls?
That's what I want to know
That's not fair
She's the USA National Champion. That's how!!
She did attempt more difficult triple jumps than the other ladies in this competition. Caryn Kadavy won with clean jumps, but the jumps were simpler. Gotta give Nancy credit for that.
She was doing her program from 1993 Worlds and we all know how that turned out!🥲🥲
Beautiful skater
Beauty and the beast music!!❤️❤️❤️
To quote SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, "The beauty skated like a beast. "
She had two really UGLY falls here onto the ice. Totally splayed out.
If she hasn't falls it would be perfect!!!

Omg the music is slow so she is slow

All of her programs were seemingly "cookie-cutter" - the same choreography, much of it angular and awkward ;-(
Actually---ahem---I change that to THREE UGLY falls onto the ice. This is about as BAD as it gets. Lame!

The choreography was too simplistic for an elite world level senior skater.

Disney is timeless. Now if she skated to nursery rhymes...
What does her age have to do with it?🤔🤔

What made me uncomfortable is the darn music. It was obvious it was not a good vehicle for her and her coaches should have pulled it.
She always skating to something comfortable.
