His dreams sound ridiculous, no wonder he writes such incredible music.

I love those brief moments when Dev forgets all the pressure of doing these things well and beating himself up for rambling, and instead just shares a genuinely pleasant moment sharing memories and perspectives. From what I've seen, he really struggles emotionally with speaking to an audience like that without judging all aspects of it first; but his sense of humor, intelligence and kindness somehow manage to shine through and he gets to be his genuine and awesome self.
It's amazing how he overcomes those challenging aspects in spite of the way he normally reacts to his environment. I admire him so much...
    Thanks for sharing this!

Devin shows again that his mind is working in a completely different way than the mind of anyone else. I played guitar for cca. 8 years and for 3 years I played 8 hours each day, so I was really into it - but I never actually became a good player, I learnt a lot but my playing was rarely accurate when playing fast solos, arpeggios etc. :D
But once I dreamt that I'm playing a song at a gig - in real life, I only had 3 gigs in total, 2 alone with my guitar (sort of solo guitar-playing nights) and 1 gig with a band, so I didn't have much experience... and in my dream I was playing a slow but dandy solo that actually came to my "dreaming mind" and when I woke up, I wanted to tab it ASAP (yes, I was such a shitty player that I used nothing else but guitar pro tabs for learning and writing as well... I barely know music theory too, and I don't recognize notes by ear, because I'm a totally "visual person" with no actual hearing or good ears :D )
So back to the dream-solo: I woke up, I had it in my mind and I thought to myself: OMIGOD, finally here is the moment when I dream about a song and now's my chance to write it down and I don't care if it's only a short solo, it sounded great in my dream and still sounds great in my mind now, so I'll write it down now at 02:30AM and write some riffs for it, maybe make it a piano-piece in GP5 whatever. Soooo.... I took my guitar, struck a string and in that moment... I totally forgot the whole shit. :'D
So I dreamt a nice solo, only one in my whole life, and the moment I wanted to make something of it, I forgot the whole stuff, which was kinda... 8 notes in total? So writing dream-music didn't work for me and all my respect to those who can work dream-music out!
(But damn me... when I remember a dream (cca. 3 times a week), I can write 4-5 pages in A/4 docx Word, because I remember tons of details of the story I dream... but can't work out 8 notes of a solo.)
Back to Devin, I think it's very rare for people to remember dreams, especially in such details like we do, and this is one thing among many others that demonstrates to me that his mind is working totally different from... cca. any other minds. And this is great, because Devin is a really nice guy, he gave up drugs and alcohol, he's sober, I'm pretty sure he's managing his family quite well (and probably his pretty-much-entirely-musician-way-of-life takes its toll on the family but they can do it because his wife has been with him and helping and aiding him way before he gave up his addictions), or at least trying his best; and since he started out, he's changed a lot, but for the good... so, all in all, he's a guy who IMO deserves to have such an exceptional and creative mind, and deserves to be able to maximise his thoughts and ideas using that special brain of his. Surely these things took lots of time and effort to learn, like music theory, automatise and harmonise singing and playing guitars (he shows and explains this in a video... he plays epic arpeggios while explaining how he's doing the arpeggios AND talking simultaneously... and he swears A LOT in this video and so much fun), maintaining the "healthiness" of his vocal fries, all those things must've taken lots of time and practice, but the way his mind works, it must've added a great boost I think. And I'm glad he's such a skillful and nice guy, 'cause all the music he gives us is great. So, I hope he'll make tons of other albums that'll make himself and us happy.

Huh, I've also had dreams where I hear some amazing melody or song that I've never heard before. They're quite rare and I always forget how they sound the moment I wake up. All I remember is that I really liked it.

Can people stop asking him about how he writes, you can probably find 20 videos of him answering this question the exact same way.

I hate myself forever for not having any money for this gig before it was sold out.
It was because i had spent it all on booze.
