    Hot water pipe insulation for throat section.

    Just tried making this. I ended up heating up sand and put it into the tubing. Capped each end off with Gorilla duct tape. The pipe will become limp and you can work with it. Be very careful though, the pipe will be VERY hot , so make sure to wear gloves. Also, I found it very beneficial to have someone helping me with some ice cold water to cool down the parts Im wanting to bend, so it stays in the shape. I also had to use some bungee cords to help keep everything into position while it cools long term. I ended up using cold water from the water hose to finalize it quicker. No easy way to do it, but this is such a great , cheap idea! Thanks for this video!

    I would suggest leaving an inch or two of the pool noodle beyond the end of the PVC pipe for the fist to minimize any weird accidents from the end of the pipe (I've seen hands get cut from the inside edges!) Another Idea, which I used to do on dummies I made long ago, was to figure a way to mount tennis balls for hands for specific targeting of those. I used thin fiberglass rods to mount those. I suppose if the noodle were cut shorter than the PVC, a tennis ball could be drilled out to fit on that pipe directly.

    You Sir are a genius. I have been considering different ways to make a wooden dummy. After class tonight, I considered going with a Bob Versys as we covered some unique inside leg kicks. But then I read the reviews for it on RUclips. That would have been a huge and expensive mistake. I practically gave my original Bob years ago, but may just pick up another. In the mean time, I can absolutely do this on my existing heavy bag. Thanks again. BTW. Nice throat punch and closing kick!

    had all the right material and tried doing this today and boy, did it go wrong. I accidentally scorched the fabric on a chair that was on the other side of the heat gun. Once i got the pvc pretzel'ed around BOB's neck i continued to heat sections and quit while i was ahead. I felt like i was going to damage the BOB. i pulled it off and tried to heat and put it back on and contour but it was getting off course. I first put sand throughout the pipe, thinking that would help maintain some shape and it wouldn't crease so drastically. With sand it was taking so long to heat up. I emptied it and it went faster. Wish i could finish it safely but at the rate i was headed i was going to damage something else. The pipe discolored in one area i held the gun too long. I have a feeling, after a short while it would start cracking. I'm looking at some other options that assemble sectional pieces so i can ditch the heat-gun approach. Wished i could have finessed it better.

    Cool DIY video to add arms which is more effective to train with. Still debating IF I should purchase Versys vs Bob or Bob XL because the former is more EXPENSIVE but has extra features than the latter which is already expensive.
    Notice Bob XL is more DURABLE to absorb the blows/hits from weapons, punches n kicks. Kudos for ur video.

    The only problém with this aren't the arms ...the base is the important thing on the versys Bob... not just the arms ... I find arms being just a side benefit ... but the base for low kicks,stability and portability is the key on the versys .

  • @geoffreyfletcher6976

    Thanks for clarification on this. I was initially thinking that you were going to somehow put the PVC pipe actually through the body of the BOB dummy, having it exit out where the arms would be. What you are doing does indeed save the dummy from any permanent damage. However, how would you practice hitting or target the throat or neck on the dummy with that PVC frame blocking those target, and not damage or injure your hands?

    Very cool. I want my BOB to have arms too. I like what you’ve done, but any thoughts on a design that doesn’t have the PVC across the front of the neck?

    • @kenfutv
      @kenfutv  2 года назад

      Not so far. I needed a way to be able to provide downward leverage on the arms so I needed a support from above the shoulders. I’ll keep thinking though. If you try this, let me know how it goes!

      Depends on how hot you get it. If you go slow and don’t stat in one place too long you should be okay. Just keep an eye on the surrounding area.

    @wm.h.9123 2 года назад

    @kenfuTV great video, I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time, but I’m wanting arms that have realistic, articulating joints. Any ideas? What size PVC pipe did you use?

    • @kenfutv
      @kenfutv  2 года назад

      A bit of an update on this. I used a 1" schedule 40 PVC for this. It did eventually crack under regular use. Having something to absorb the flexing of the arms would probably help. When you say articulating, are you looking for something that bends at the joints when you work with it, so something posable?

    • @wm.h.9123
      @wm.h.9123 2 года назад

      @@kenfutv Yes, so an individual could practice wrist locks on a standing dummy. It wouldn't necessarily have to be posable (i.e. retain whatever position you put it in), but that would be ideal. It would just have to have realistic arm joints with full range of motion.

    Note, there is no such thing as a "gi". For instance, it is -"ki" as a suffix and if a prefix is added, as is required, it becomes '-gi". The correct terms are kimono (with -ki as a prefix), dogi, kawrawtehgi, jujutsugi, aikidogi, etc. All -ki means is clothing so there is no such thing as "a gi/ki".
