"pizza only healed 21?!?! Someone wanna explain that one to me?" Well....I ate an entire pizza off the floor last night and let me tell you I felt like shit later
" Wear... In... Clock... Tower" Center room in Marble Gallery: "y'know, I'm something of a clock tower myself" Actual Clock Tower: "Am I a joke to you?"
hey Jared when you asked "why didn't death take all my stuff again" is because the stuff you started with were gifts from Death and taken away thusly. He can't take the things that are yours by any other means. There's a tiny bit of lore that explains it.
The fact that he was *SO* close to figuring out the button in the caves... But now thinks the correct answer doesn't work... Because the demon introduces himself when you summon him amd you have to re-enter the room with him already active to trigger the button interaction... also his staunch refusal to keep the stopwatch (or really use any subweapon besides holy water). I'm not gonna fault him for wanting to stay blind and not get tips, but there's so many little things that would be so much cooler for him if he just experimented more...like holding the button down when you use the lightning sub weapon makes it continuous use like actual force lightning (and it chains across multiple enemies) At least he's trying out weapons to find the little secret moves.
I like watching blind playthroughs more than expert ones cause the reactions are so much more genuine and funny, but also I like watching them get frustrated on bosses where they can just avoid the attacks by standing out of its range like those lightning balls he kept running right into. Love that the most.
When I played this I couldn't do the inputs for the spells and didn't know about the special attacks with the weapons, so it's been nice seeing what I missed out on. Thank you for the streams, Jared. 😊
@@BojackUnb0und He managed to get out of there without dying. His fairy restored him. No game over. But if you want to be technical he did die there. However, that is a spot just about everyone dies at the first time because it's a trap, and has nothing to do with how well you play the game.
Loving this playthrough. Been watching it for the last few days. Though absolutely blowing my mind how he struggles sometimes when trying to reach high places when he could easily just use bat.
In case no one's told you, you are a lucky SOB having never experienced SoTN. If I could go back and experience this masterpiece of a game for the first time I so would. Love watching you play for the first time!
Another fun fact: One of the guitarists for this game's soundtrack is Mr. Tak Fuuji. Aka the Konami "ONE MIRRION TLOOPS" guy. Also insane fumble to literally equip the item that negates Galamoth's most powerful attack, walk in, see you do slightly less damage, then taking it off before you can see that it made the fight near trivial.
I think it's when you say stuff like "Wait until you get into the next room" "Get hyped, you're about the see something neat" Which is cool when we all know but it can take away some of the surprise/reaction when it's a new experience
If Jerd figured out the Shield Rod secret (pressing both Circle and Square buttons at the same time when equipped with the Shield Rod and Any Shield) he'd have an easier time with Galamoth and other Inverted Castle bosses. Kudos for absolutely DOMINATING that Death fight with the Holy rod though!
Imagine getting to upside down castle in the 90s, and when you tell your friends about it, they like "You can play the whole game upside down a second time? Hmph, yeah, sure..."
Jared still not finding out how to open the other statue in the giant clock room almost made me want to give him a hint during the livestream lol. Anyway, it's very common for 1st time players to get the bad ending since getting to the reversed castle can be a bit confusing during the 1st playthrough
I doubt he'll figure it out without a hint. I can't see him ever thinking of bringing the stopwatch there. To be fair, it's pretty obscure. I don't remember if there's a hint in the game anywhere.
Someone in chat said vinesauce moment during the nova skeleton part and I laughed. I was hoping Jared was going to get hit and being reminded of that got me good. 😂 then he did. Ah good times.
Always lovin see peoples first time play this awsome game. I want to see you got the good ending. Mathew 16:26 i belive... (marker is irrelevant, still rewatch)
Having never bothered to fight Galamoth without using cheese, I was quite impressed with that Moon Rod strategy. On the other hand, I used to be good enough at the rest of the game that I regularly beat it without equipping any weapon(except to cheese him, lol), and had started a no body armor run, but never did go back to finish it.
Just starting the second VOD, loved the first one. For how long people have shown interest in him playing this game, I'm surprised at his shock to the positive feedback. Next a randomized rom hack?
Oh yeah olrox is one if the out of place bosses, though hardly the weirdest one lol. But glad to see you discover the more obtuse mechanics that make it worth replaying. While it's an impressively immense game loaded with detail, it's really easy to become overpowered unless deliberately doing a minimalist run or some other challenge. Though the fighting game inspired combos to cast spells and activate unique attacks is rather tedious, but it's basically the only compromise they could do to be fair. Yup I remember a time doors/windows/cars didn't have to be locked, wouldn't dare chance that now days though with all the unrest and nonsense going on. And that one boss demonstrates the biggest flaw in the game, that anything offscreen has no hitbox unfortunately, despite being able to launch attacks at you; those energy balls count as dark/evil damage similar to how the belmont dealt holy damage, though it's known as the most durable boss but not the most difficult. Everyone's made that library card mistake, but at least the warp rooms reduce the backtracking, besides the voice acting is still enjoyably cheesy.
Definitely optional, but for any time you're flying for relatively long distances, the Echo of Bat is much better most of the time than the Fire of Bat, at least in my experience.
I think part of enjoying your blind playthroughs, Is that people long for the ignorance they had when playing games for the first time; and so enjoy getting to watch you learn the game from the start. Like, how many times have you wished to be able to play through a Zelda game with no knowledge of the map, dungeons or bosses
1:22:48 - Look at Jerd bragging about what a stud he is. Also, I'm kinda a surprised it took him so long to notice them. When I played this, I picked up on them right away. Of course, I'm a hell of a lot gayer than he is, so I probably have penis pareidolia.
Ah yes, that Galamoth fight. "Why don't you use the strat" is BS anyways... the fucking item that grants you Thunder Absorb is hidden behind the most obtuse hidden wall in the game. There's a Richter mode strat... but Alucard strat is "get the game-breaking items and use them"

Playing for 9 hours and getting to the inverted castle without dying a single time on your first try, is pretty epic.
He died once in the spike hallway.

SotN and Valkyrie Profile were my favs PS1 games... Would love to see Jared play Valkyrie Profile :)
That lightning boss is the hardest boss in the game, I think.

I actually forgot about that 😂
Great video Jerd!

1:06:20 I didn't realize you were joking about Aria of Sorrow lol Sorry for bringing it up in the last video.
Is there a reason Jared refuses to Bat?
Watching Jerd bounce around in the upside down castle is funny but I keep just wanting him to fly and clean the map fully to super boost the map armor

Granfaloon is one of my favorite bosses in any game. Just the idea of it was nightmare fuel to me as a kid.

Only just noticed the symbols above the warp gates are different for each area.

Here for the rest of it
Was it really only 6 years between SOTN and Aria of Sorrow? That feels like a much shorter time then I would have thought.
What was the chest you used to beat that Egyptian guy. Galaloth?? When you said don’t pay attention to the upper right corner???
Why does he run towards the energy balls? 😂
Imagine Jared running 99 Luck mode and going through the inverted castle
