    Thanks for the videos. They have all been very helpful in finalizing my Backerkit purchases for my table, especially the breakdown of the cup holder fit demonstrations. I'd been looking for a video like that for months! Would you consider putting up a video of how you went about making the "simple" racks for the accessories? It's awesome and is a great solution to the problem I've been trying to solve in my head of "where am I going to keep all of my accessories?"

    Thank you so much for going over all this, I have been reacently playing with a group and didn't know the player desk was a thing, I want to try it out but we have just been using the railing. It sucks and I didn't want to rain on the parade of finally having a nice table for the game. I need the space and I'll see if the guy had gotten some of these.

      I have found every game requires a little trial and error for the set ups. Some games we play only in the vault, some are better on toppers, some we use the desks, some we use the game deck. Even then personal preference plays a part in this as well as leaning over desks isn’t always comfortable or easy if reaching into the vault regularly. Glad this video helped and hope you are able to find a solution for you and the group. The early access pricing ends soon so if they didn’t buy a desk and decide to get one they will want to do so in the next few weeks or they will miss out on significant discounts and some wood options are going away (tavern elm and espresso maple). Keep in mind S/H prices have gone up a ton and are worth looking into when looking at cost as well.

    How much does the player desk interfere with reaching the playing surface? I can only imagine shuffling around to clear dice from under it or not being able to reach the center of the table. A video showing a real/mock up game would be helpful to see players using all the table gear.

      Really interested in this, without having to stand up how practical is it to reach things as the player on the table with the game desks attached? Additionally how practical are the drink holders when they have a drink in them to access to the table and their effect on the players visibility? (Appreciate the video mate)

    • @ThePercOfGaming
      @ThePercOfGaming  6 месяцев назад

      I always planned on it and never got around to it. With Wyrmwood now looking to release their own I likely won’t get around it it since I plan to replace them. The design involved a metal flat rail, piece of solid wood (I used maple and stained it), and wood glue. I cut a slot with my router that was pressure fit tight and just glued it in. I used a keyhole plunge router bit to flush mount into the wall. One design flaw is they can domino each other due to not having horizontal pressure to hold them in place. This is one thing I should have corrected long ago and didnt due to time which resulted in a few accidents with my toppers having a few extra scratches.

    Thank you very much for the in depth coverage for each of these accessories and for showcasing various use cases! In particular, thank you for addressing my question of how usable the rails are alone for a TTRPG. I would have to agree with you regarding using the rails as is for a character sheet being relatively impractical and I think the inclusion of a clipboard could be a phenomenal budget friendly solution. Additionally, thank you for showcasing the component storage system that you had created as that is a brilliant way to both store and showcase each of the accessories.
    Out of curiosity, do you think that the player desks make it significantly more difficult to access the center of the table, requiring people to stand to move their miniatures each time, or is there still decent access from a seated position?
    Overall, I wanted to express my gratitude for you taking the time to make these videos as they truly help when it comes to making a more informed purchasing decision. Thanks again for everything!

    • @ThePercOfGaming

      I think player desks are a bit limiting for vault access use depending on your size table (wargaming vs regular width) as well as your height. I’m 5’10” and my wife is 5’3”. I think games like everdell or Great Western Trail player desks aren’t a good idea despite having a player area for the game due to the amount of reaching towards a central shared space. Other games like Scythe, Twilight Imperium, or Gloomhaven might be better fits since vault use isn’t an every turn thing. Biggest usage I see is DnD or if you plan to eat mid game and want to avoid putting toppers on (or didn’t buy them). They’ve not proven to be as practical as I hoped but they’re still new s I received them a few weeks ago so need to try more games with them still. Sorry I forgot to address this in my video as it’s a huge part of player desks.

    • @ThePercOfGaming
      @ThePercOfGaming  11 месяцев назад

      Yes it is walnut. You will find the beauty and curse of walnut is the wide variation of color. That said, the standard brown color of walnut isn’t super light like maple or new cherry. Nor is it dark like espresso or wenge. It is that middle tone between both extremes.

  • @ialsoagree1634

    Question, is the table accessible from a sitting position with the player desks installed, or are players standing up to reach over the desk and work on the table?
    If you had players spaced out more (IE. 1 player per side, or the hobby vault wasn't there) would the table be accessible while sitting then (assuming it wasn't before)?

    • @ThePercOfGaming
      @ThePercOfGaming  Год назад +1

      Not really accessible while sitting so yes you have to stand. Moving the desk to the side of you is ideal if reaching in vault is required a lot so yes 1 player per side helps. Hobby vault isn’t the same issue since it’s elevated.

    • @ThePercOfGaming

      They don’t get used often. I use one for a rulebook to sit on the shield apron (short end), if I played dnd they’d get used more for sure but for board games if on a budget I could get by with 2 or less depending on the games played. Im still not going to sell what I have because things could change over time with new games or other uses I haven’t had come up. Probably could go entirely without them on the wider table though reaching middle would be a new problem for shorter people.

    • @Newt211

      @@ThePercOfGaming thanks for the reply. I went ahead and ordered them, I can see the problems they can create, but better to have them and not need them, then to wish I had something to write on. • @ThePercOfGaming
      @ThePercOfGaming  2 года назад

      The grid is 35 spaces wide and you lose easy access/visibility below your desk for between 2-3 per desk so likely between 29-31 spaces wide. The length would depend on your mat/table size.

    Is there a concern for how much weight is on the player desks? I have some players that wrest their elbows and such on the table, and I’d be nervous if they put too much weight on the desks that it could snap the table rail or something.

    • @ThePercOfGaming
      @ThePercOfGaming  Год назад

      Honestly no. Biggest issue is the wobble it has has off to much pressure goes on the far half of the desk. I’d be worried only then of rail damage from it dropping on the rail aggressively. Could be mitigated though with some padding though easily.

  • @WittleWolfie
    @WittleWolfie 2 года назад

    How stable are the game desks? If a player leans on them / rests their elbows will it cause problems? Kind of the same question for the cupholders--I worry a bit about how stable the magnetic rail system is with a heavy drink.

    • @ThePercOfGaming
      @ThePercOfGaming  2 года назад +1

      Leaning on them isn’t an issue as they can take a lot of weight. Same for the cup holders as I’ve never experienced an issue with heavy drinks or water bottles. Bigger issue with player desks is leaning on the table side of them can cause them to wobble/lift a little. With the drink holders the only issue I have experienced is hitting them on the side hard enough with my gaming chairs arm rests has knocked them off but it took a lot of sideways pressure to do that.

    just curious, if you have just the character sheet on the leather portion of the player desk, is it easy for pen/pencil to break through the paper? or is it solid enough not to worry about it?

    • @ThePercOfGaming
      @ThePercOfGaming  2 года назад +1

      This was a concern of mine before getting them but after having them feel confident with pencil and most if not all pen usage. Any extra fine pen users might need to test this out as I don’t have any but otherwise it’s a very premium feel when writing. I would suggest buying leather conditioner to maintain leather. Wyrmwood specifically recommends Bick 4 which I use and love. Makes it look like new within seconds with barely any effort.

    • @ThePercOfGaming
      @ThePercOfGaming  Год назад

      Kgood question! Only one time have I ever wished for a wider table and that was when I tried setting up all of everdell expansions and was one or two inches shy of space. That said I have desks and game deck that I’ve used to make games fit. If you don’t plan to buy accessories to create space the wider table might be worthwhile. I’d also worry about smaller games on a wider table (code names, slap games, poker, etc.)

    • @ThePercOfGaming

      @@stevenpeterson580 I have used it and when you max out your town you use the full desk space edge to edge. The leather has a little lip which can be slightly annoying if tucking cards but it works well otherwise. Playing in the vault works too but takes a decent amount of vault space which depending on player count could be a problem. I prefer the desk my wife prefers the vault because the desk is hard to reach around into the vault (she’s 5’2” I’m 5’10” for perspective)

    How do you think two Game Decks would fit in a medium table? I will definitely be playing d&d on my table and I was thinking about getting two game decks and skipping the player desks. That way one gamedeck surface would be for me (DM) and the other would be for my players and/or snacks. Do you think this would work?

    • @ThePercOfGaming
      @ThePercOfGaming  2 года назад +1

      You will only have 36.5” of vault space with two game decks in a medium table which isn’t a lot. I personally would not recommend this setup on a medium (large it would work). That said you know your setup, number of players and other variables better than anyone so do what works for you. Maybe test using a 36”x36” space for your dungeons and see if it works for you. Keep in mind other accessories in the vault could reduce that space accessibility as well (Ex wireless charger, cup holders, etc.) All that said, I really do think dnd is the one place desks make the most sense if you play enough.

    Great videos - thank you! Your magnetic accessory storage wall hanging boards shown at 2:41 and 3:07 are a brilliant and elegant solution!! HOW DID YOU ATTACH THEM TO THE WALL? I'm a bit stuck on how you made the fasteners unseen, *and* made the boards flush to the wall, *and* adequately accounted for the forces in two axes (gravity, and pulling the magnets off the board toward you). Protruding screws from the wall and keyhole slots in the boards? Screwed into the wall under the metal strips? Any advice you could give would be GREATLY appreciated, and thank you in advance!

    • @ThePercOfGaming
      @ThePercOfGaming  Год назад +1

      Sorry for the slow response I somehow missed this post. To answer your question you are correct they are keyhole slotted with screws in the wall. My only change id make is having small pieces of wood added throughout the wall to pinch the accessories in place similar to how the table works. While the magnets are strong and don’t fall they have on a few occasions fallen downward due to weight (wireless charger and cup holders in particular), or when pulling outward accidentally bumping other accessories. This results in a domino effect where all of the accessories cascade and sometimes fall. While it is a clean aesthetic I hate worrying about something getting damaged so would make this change and plan to at some point hopefully this summer. Hope this helps!

    When I have seen these reviews, the one thing that always bugs me is that the accessories seem to put a distance between the players and the table (or GM/DM) You have this huge table, and you put yourself a foot away from the table. It would seem a stretch just to reach the table, let alone being able to access the whole table.

    Man, almost everything they added to this table sits in the worst possible spot. Call me crazy but I wouldn't want to buy a table and be like well you lose about 8" off the sides if you want any usable space, and the DM station takes up 14" off the one end. And the cup holder positions? That's one step up from flipped over inside the playing area I guess. lol

    • @ThePercOfGaming

      There are for sure things that could be better but I personally love the table and feel it is a huge improvement from a standard dining table. Compared to the many different companies out there making gaming tables I feel the quality is far superior. For example, some companies offer a rail for accessories to be attached to but they just hook on without magnets (wood on wood wear and no way to avoid sliding when bumped without magnets). The dm station is how I elected to set it up but I’m sure others could do it differently. Regardless, DM space is very personal depending on if you use minis, tablet/computer, etc.
