Rest in piece, great master and inspiring soul. Thank you for all the things you did, and for all the thoughts and feelings and ideas you shared. You said about George Enescu that being around him was like being on a mountain top, breathing the freshest, cleanest air. I think the same applies to you. Thank you.
It has taken me a while to discover but not long to appreciate Ivry Gitlis. His mastery, range and versatility with the violin has not been bettered in my opinion.Love him.

Completely different versions when compared to Itzhak Perlman's interpretation, the rhythm is all over the place but he still plays it well with a lot of freedom. Many of you are calling the pianist bad but imagine having to guess Ivry's rhythm every single time because you won't know what he's going to do next..
that was exactly what I was thinking. What a work to accompany a man withh practically no rhythm xD Funnily tho, that makes it a beautiful interpretation, but I guess it would be less painful without the piano jsjsjsj

He knows what capriccioso means and I love it ! The pianist - expertly going with Gitlis’s whim ! I’ve heard this endless times. This is the best. The flaws make it even better ❤
To repeat what others have said requires education; to challenge it requires brains. -- M.P. Poole Listening Gitlis brings mind out of the repetitive cycle of how things are supposed to be, in a good way.
So many opinions! He did it his way! I felt it was rushed. Interesting to hear him. I have heard it played by all of the greats! However, the one that got to me was David Oistrakh!

How dare you criticise him?Are you a musician? You are better violinist than him?Why we not heard about you yet?I think you have not any skills for the music and also you have not talent for the music. He is one of the best violinist of the world. But every musician know that beyond you.He has an individual special style his playing is not standard and for this possible to recognize his playing from 100 violinist. He has not bad taste he has specific conception about the music. And that is good!
Really expressive great playing from Gitlis. But did he not rehearse this with the pianist before hand? Cause Gitlis does a lot of weird things that seem to catch the pianist by total surprise right from the first note till the end.....
I'm also a violinist, I also hear some false notes, but not many, and overall his coordination and intonation is of the highest level. I love ivry gitlis's playing and above all his unique musicianship. you don't have to think that he's a good violinist, just accept the fact that many appreciate his playing for legitimate reasons. I myself could certainly see why some may consider him to be a bad violinist, as I once did, but I don't think so anymore.
There's something different between today's musicians and those of the "past", which is that they were more interested in musicality than technique, which I would say is reversed today. Today, I feel we need to have perfectly clear notes, a stable rhythm and no wrong notes. Of course, I'm saying this but I'm doing the same thing by trying to improve my technique harder than improving my musicality.
some people have such an incredible gift of playing the instrument though!!!!! amazing, divine!!! Ivry you are a legend in the violin history. I can only "approach" this kind of finesse if i play by resting the scroll of the violin against the wall. I wonder if this counts....haha

When I’ve heard a piece too many times, played so “perfectly” it’s dead to the ear, I hear it again for the first time listening to Gitlis
He was the best, in a class of his own. It is hard to hear such expresivity elsewhere!!! You are greatly missed Ivry Gitlis!!!
R.I.P. Ivry. We will miss you.

Daniel Weyenberg plays the piano
i prefer the other version, with the strings backing him as well.
