    I've been there too many times. I ended up on a tiny mountain road in Oregon once and it was the longest 15 minutes of my life.

      Lmao I did the same once that I didn't film a long time ago. I think it was in Tennessee or Kentucky. I tried this route around some stopped traffic up ahead. Every single turn my trailer was in the opposing lane on blind corners. I was sweating bullets for like 15-20 minutes watching the miles slowly count down to where I would get out of it lol.

    After dealing with all that I'd tell em that I'll turn in my keys if they ever try sending me back there.
    A place that a semi shouldnt be. Dropping the trailer so you can then drive around to side-hook back onto it? Yeah start using straight trucks.
    Then told to slide your tandems back. You slide your tandems back and back in and they tell you "No, no! You have to slide them forward now!"

    I was just in that area around last week. I hate some of the routes that are marked as state highways in W Virginia and Pennsylvania. Had one route take me literally 3 hours to go 40 miles because of all the twists and turns. If you, Dave, left in that area after dark, you're a braver man than I. I told my dispatch to not expect me to drive after dark anywhere in those mountains.

    New River Gorge area is a beautiful place. Hawks Nest (I think that's what its called)has a very nice scenic view.
    That's definitely a unique loading dock.
    The metal plates on the ground are for the railroad crews. They connect the tracks to the railroad ties with spikes. At my old job CSX would replace them and leave them on the ground until they feel like getting them or until the private property owner calls and complains about it.
    Thank you for trucking, Dave. Safe Travels.

    truckdriving these days is more hassle than it's worth. 10 years ago when I got my cdl I had strict directions I had to follow. Turn by turn in a message on the computer while keeping a paper log lol But dispatch seems to have gotten really relaxed and letting drivers do their own thing which back then I would find better ways if I could by technology. But now dispatch just wants to send you loads and zero directions leaving it up to the driver. Problem is communication from dispatch and customers. Now days you have customers in very odd places spread out all over. No driver have huge books with trucking routes anymore. They rely on communication from the customer and dispatch on ins and outs of customers.

    The other kind of semis "cabovers" are easier to maneuver & park in although they aren't as safe & comfy as conventional cabs. Not to forget cabovers are rare here in the USA nowadays too. I remember I saw those things everywhere back in the 1980s & down. Today the only cabovers I see often are fire trucks, garbage trucks, yard spotters, crane trucks, front discharge cement trucks, concrete pumper trucks, & non semi trucks like those smaller size box ones that furniture companies & others have.

    That idiot on the phone gave you bad directions. As soon as you showed the location's address, I pulled it up on my own Google Maps. From what I can tell, Frontier St and Cova St can both get you to that customer, but it's too sharp and probably narrow a turn to make it onto Frontier St from S Oakwood Ave. Therefore, following Oakwood around to that hospital, then making the right onto Cova is the way to go in a truck. I saw right away where you made the wrong turn. I'm betting the guy on the phone thought you had already crossed under WV-16 when you hadn't made it to that point yet. This is a good example of why I rarely let other people give me directions. They tend to give them in stupid ways. Or even if they do give them the same way that I like to receive them, they can make bad assumptions like that guy did with you. I won't normally even use GPS, but in your case it sounded like your GPS was giving you the correct direction off of WV-16...but the distraction of being on the phone with the customer didn't do you any favors there.

    • @RidingWithDave
      @RidingWithDave  6 месяцев назад +3

      Oh trust me, after this incident I said to myself, never again am I going to let someone walk me through directions like this. I trusted them and sent it lmao, but next time I'm going to just get their directions and confirm with my material like I'm supposed to.

    • @ScottZane
      @ScottZane 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@RidingWithDave well, in your defense, I can see why that place would be easy to make wrong turns getting to. Even when I was watching your footage and seeing you make the rigjht turn by the hospital, the hospital property didn't look at all like I would have expected it to. And without zooming in pretty far on map or satellite view, it's also easy to mistakenly believe that the streets that go into there also intersect with WV-16 when they don't. I could have easily made a similar mistake myself, if it was me going there and I didn't have time to effectively trip plan it or didn't pay close enough attention to the details of the roads there.
