True. After the 3d printed mouthpieces and hot glue mouthpieces, I do wonder what YOU personally could do with the cardboard. Probably would sound as good as possible, for what it is.
Hey Trent. I just wanted to tell you that your videos are amazing. As a brass player your videos are so helpful on all aspects of every instrument. Thanks for everything. God bless and take care
I bought a late 70’s strad and one of these mutes was thrown in with the horn in the case when It was delivered I’m glad I found out what pit of hell it was summoned from
A couple suggestions. Firstly I'd show playing the same passage without a mute for a control I guess you could call it. Second, I'd show the passage with the sshhmute as it is semi arguably the best practice mute in existence. Otherwise, good video.
The Wick practice mute is an absolutely AWFUL mute, horrific tuning, awful response and not really all that quiet either - the Shhh would've been made a much clearer difference. As would a Mike McLean, a Yamaha-Silentbrass without electronics, a Don Maslet.... basically any decent practice mute.
Could you try 3D printing some bizarre trumpet mute shapes in the same way you did with the mouthpieces to see what kind of sounds you get? I love the 3D printed series!
In terms of that black rubber sort of thing pretnding to be a cork this might not be bad at all. I have Denis Wick DW5587 Euphonium travel mute which also has that foamy like material used there and it also doesn't go all the way around. As a matter of fact it has two gaps in it in the opposite sides and no holes drilled into it at all. So all the air has to come out through these gaps. Needless to say my mute is made of metal and is on the whole very good.
Andreas Saluste the difference is the air is suppose to come out of the gaps on your mute. With the trumpet mute, it isn't meant to be like that. The rubber has to create a seal to direct the air into the mute and if the rubber doesn't go all the way around, there's no way it can do that.
Hi Kent. I believe you are from New Zealand. Many years ago I had a friend from Hamilton City, New Zealand. You are Hamilton, and he is from Hamilton... one of those odd coincidences that don't mean anything.
Seems incongruous to review/demonstrate these mutes without indicating how one might acquire them, especially since Mfg/Model# etc were not included. An more especially since I would like to acquire the $3 practice mute.
It's funny you think a $3 practice mute has a model number :) These are mass produced items that are deliberately unbranded so that anyone else can put their marks on them and resell.
3D print mutes.
Ah, the true test would be to make a quick straight mute out of the corragated cardboard shipping box it came in and see which works better.
Here's an optimistic man who thought it came shipped in a cardboard box.
Trent Hamilton clever. I like your style sir.

It's so shiny

Or you could stick a sock in it, and save three dollars and one cent. 😉 🎺
Actually it won't sound the same.
That's how you mute a trombone when the music says "quasi horn".

how was this commented five hours ago and the video show up 5 mins ago?
something magical called p a t r e o n
$1 a month goes a longer way than you might think

You should try playing a reed instrument like bassoon! I would love to see how you approach an instrument that you are not familiar with!
As a bassoonist who loves this channel, I would LOVE to see this!
Quote of the century “nugget of joy and happyness “ Trent Hamilton
Can you play your Bb baritone more please
Could you try 3D printing some bizarre trumpet mute shapes in the same way you did with the mouthpieces to see what kind of sounds you get? I love the 3D printed series!
Is it me or does it look lile the lense is dirty
Not just you. I realised when I was editing the video that there was a smudge on the lens.
yes finally the old intro came back
Mine are black - I have 2. I dropped one, it broke, I re-glued it. They are not perfect; neither am I. But these mutes work for me!
ha. mine turned up today. too quiet to be anything except a practice mute but i quite like it
I bought nearly an exact copy of this mute and I can say it does definitely quiet it down, but I definitely prefer the Bach mute over it.

Andreas Saluste also just out of curiosity, what kind of euphonium do you have
just seen it on ebay for $1.99 with free shipping. ships from china.
ha. thats the mute i use.....
if i needed more than one for more than one horn this is the answer. buy the wick for the main horn and these for the others
Three US dollars and one saint? That would take quite a quest to find in the USA.
To me it sounded like the cheap mute actually muted way more the sound.
cap
Trent Hamilton what a fine piece of craftsmanship. What happens if you plug in the gap of the cork with filler?
Hey Trent, what do you think about Jazz music in general?
It's much like me and Christmas wrapping paper. I don't understand it.
hmmmm
I have the song he played in my new music book
Hey Trent can you demonstrate an Eb trumpet? I’ve been considering purchasing one for myself
It’s basically be the same
Can you do something on tuba mutes? Preferably for Bb tubas if possible. I'm trying to find one for my marching tuba but I don't know what to choose.
Yes
what's the song he played after the arpegios
Nch ding dong merrily on high it’s an Xmas carol
CJ I played it in band
Same
It sounds almost like bouché on french horn.
What do you think about the Bach practice mute?

Peep that 2 valve flugelhorn in the back 👀
thats a 2 valve soprano bugle
The one barely over his left shoulder
oh i see it now
Yee
And it's made of Chineseium
Do they make it in trombones?
Can you play your french horn?
Looks like one of those plastic pantyhose eggs from the 80s. L'eggs, I think they were called.
I thought it was one of those air freshener canisters that you twist.
Needs gaffer to dampen those vibrations.
Just use a jacket as a mute shove it in the bell
Jk
Ding dong merrily on high in January
Wow, $3 practice mute sounds like $3
Lol i got mine for 6 dollars
Same 😂
Hey I love you

A year later... I found it on Wish. It should be here any month now.
