Great head to head gentlemen, the Lag 8 verses the Lag 16 I though would be easier since the Lag 16 has more sherry influence. My favorite is still the Lagavulin 12, but it's not in the cards for me to be a daily sipper. Cheers to the best drams!

I recently got a bottle of the 8 and having it by itself just brought back memories of drinking Lagavulin. I was then able to have a taste side by side with the 16 with friends and was amazed by how different they actually were for me. Really enjoy both, but think I would favour (slightly) the 16.

A great tasting comparison. Been curious about Lagavulin for some time.
BTW a double blind test would require a 3rd person who knows which is which, who would give it to Trenny who wouldn't know & couldn't give subconscious clues when presenting the glasses of which is which to the subject, in this case C

Very nice Comparison Guys. Love the painted glasses!! Having had my First glass of LAGAVULAN 16 tonight, I too agree that the Peat notes are a bit subdued allowing for other notes to come forward!!

Just happen to have the closed caption option on today and hello "Trini and see" good to see you tasting "leg of bull in" and "leg of bull one". I thought the double blind was like Jose Flelaccio wearing a blindfold? So not a huge difference in prices.
Hey, just noticed you are very close to 5,000 subs (is that U.S.or Canadian subs?) = just a few days away?? Keep up the great videos and live streams. CHEERS!!!

The 16 years for the win, It's more matured, balanced and refined by time in casks. No other whisky can easily beat it, peated or not. It's underpriced for the quality of that peated beast. That's my 2 pesos anyway.
    You guys rock!!. Cheers🥂

My thoughts exactly. Did the same test last night inspired by you guys and I still think the 16s refinement is unrivalled, as stellar as the 8 is in its own right. The notes of the 16 mesh together so elegantly to create a perfect whole that you don't even want to pick it apart, and that cigar-like finish... You gotta love the 8 too for its vanilla lemonpie notes and its punch though. Not a bad distillery.

Just tried the 16 and I was honestly a little underwhelmed compared to Ardbeg 10. I’ve had some more time with it and I can now see why it’s so popular. The extra years in the barrel sure soften things up, but the lower ABV, chill filtration and added colouring aren’t doing them any favours. I was visiting BC from the province next door last week and picked up the 16 (paid $150) as I can’t find it in my area. I just picked up a bottle of the 8 locally for $75 and see if I like that any better. Well done fellas, subscribed!

    • @utoobia
      @utoobia 2 года назад

Two different whiskies for sure. The Ardbeg 10 is brash, young and fresh, while the Lagavulin is, for Islay, an old gentleman of a dram. Love ‘em both.

    Hey Guys:
Enjoying my first glass of Lagavulan 16 yr. old tonight. Here are my impressions
LAGAVULAN 16 yr. old Islay Single Malt Scottish Whisky
    11/23/19
    43% ABV
First glass from the bottle, Left the spirit in glass for 30 minutes to open
COLOR: Medium Brown with a nice Ring and legs running moderately
    NOSE: Sweet Peat
PALETE: Light mouthfeel almost airy with spice lightly tingling my tongue. Smoke rises as I swirl it around Licorice as well.
FINISH Lightly Spicy with a mild Smoky note transitioning to a light licorice on my tongue as the spice fades and moves to the edge of my tongue
    With one drop of water
NOSE: A light candied sweet Peat note with Licorice underneath.
PALETE: A slightly Richer mouthfeel with smoke rising, lightly sweet with licorice. There is less spice.
FINISH: Light spice with more Peat Smoke rising; then a very dry sense with hints of Licorice. Campfire smoke after a time
    With 2 drops of water
NOSE: Fruity note followed by a spicy Peat note. The Peat note sweetens in later nosing.
PALETE: Subdued Peat arrival with a Chalky mouthfeel Some Campfire smoke as I swirl it around. There is a Light Peat Sweetness even in the smoky notes
FINISH: Light Pepper overlaying a light sweet Peat note Light pepper notes on my tongue while a light smoky note fills my mouth ending with a Licorice note on my tongue.
This is my first experience with Lagavulan 16 and it was very enjoyable. To my palette the Smokiness has subsided a bit and allowed some of the other notes to come forward. I notice pepper and spice much more here than in other Islays. I put that up to the longer aging. The Fruity note in the nose with 2 drops of water. was a pleasant surprise. I am looking forward to how air in the bottle affects this whisky!!

Great notes! It's such a well rounded dram.. leaves lots of big sugar notes for the nose and palate while the ribbon of smoke makes it bold and delirious! Cheers - Trenny
