In addition to being highly informative, well presented, and a joy to view, your youtube presentations of stories from the Boer War are absolutely spellbinding, Dave. Please keep them coming!
@@carvingsfromtheveldt5945 my Great great ..couple more great granfathers were S.J Eloff and President Paul Kruger. My father still has family ib Rustenburg.... Sarel had no less than 10 streets named Eloff street in honour of the him.. also Eloffsdal suburb in Johannesburg named for him or Jan his brother who was if i can recall correctly the first mining commissioner for Transvaal also secretary to Paul Kruger if not mistaken. I am very interested in finding out what info you have on SJ Eloff's time at St. Helena... is there a way to get in touch with you?
Crikey 8 months!! I never knew Baden Powell had that idea for the scouts from warfare. I'm left thinking why I've never heard these stories, but I presume 2 world wars has blotted out these. Great stuff as usual, thanks for posting, cheers
Hi Ant, Yes, the dreadful casualties during WW1, totally eclipsed the battles and casualties of the Anglo-Boer War. As a result, the Boer War has become a 'Forgotten War' in history. Cheers, Dave G..
Hello Jan, Good to hear from you. Please excuse the delayed reply, I have only just seen your post. This 'Ou Toppie' is a bit Slow in finding my way around the web! My sincere thanks for your kind comments. I sure hope you enjoy my 3 books and all the weapons. Cheers, Dave G.
Weird, I just finished a book on Mafeking by Edmund Yorke and then I found your video. Great video, I subscribed. Living in the USA there is generally not much time given to the Boer wars. Also, I have a model 1893 Spanish mauser in 7mm that looks a lot like you rifle (mine is new though - built in 1923). Any idea how close they are in design?
Hi Richard, Thanks for your comments. Glad you enjoyed. There were very few differences between the M1893 Spanish, and the M1895 'Boer' Mauser. When comparing photos, they look exactly the same ! Some of the orders placed by the ZAR referred to the M93-95 Mauser. Cheers, Dave G.
Hi Shackdweller, My apologies for the delay. I am 72 and not 'pc Savvy'...so I did not know "Where" to see your reply!! I know about Sarel Eloff, and interesting that P. Eloff was part of your family. Thanks for watching and for your comments, Cheers, Dave G.

As a young scout in Australia we were taught all about Baden Powell and his bushcraft skills, there were awards named after him to strive for.
