Hi Garth, Glad you enjoyed it. My apologies for the delay. I am 72 and not 'pc Savvy'...so I did not know "Where" to see your reply!! Thanks for watching and for your comments, Cheers, Dave G.
Hi there Roger. Please excuse delayed reply - life is busy and we have had visitors staying with us. Really appreciate your kind comments. This makes all the time and work (without payment) seem worthwhile! Cheers and Merry Xmas, Dave G.
Love the videos they show great detail regarding the Anglo-Boer wars, something that is essentially unheard of here in the U.S. Keep up the amazing work!
Another excellent historical gem from the Boer Wars Era, Dave. Many, many thanks for making these RUclips videos. Have you considered, would you consider offering your three "Carvings From The Veldt" volumes through Books On War Australia internet booksellers of Manly (greater Brisbane) QLD? Recently I purchased "We Are Here, Too" from BOWA, which chronicled the service of ANZAC Sister Olive Haynes in Egypt, Greece, and France during World War One, sourced from Olive's diaries, letters, and related materials. My internet purchase transaction with Books On War Australia, was smooth, seamless, and altogether satisfactory. Your USA representative was not a source I felt confident doing business with, and was understocked as well.
Hello Noah, Excuse delayed reply - life is busy and we have had visitors staying with us. Really appreciate your kind comments. This makes all the time and work (without payment) seem worthwhile! I have contacted Books on War Australia and they will be purchasing all 3 of my books in the very near future. They are good operators. Alternatively you could try Abrams on: ira@abramsantiques.com Cheers and thanks, Dave G.
Fantastic video. I'm from SA myself originally. My grandfather was a British soldier in the third Anglo Boer war, who stayed on afterwards. I was impressed by your pronounciation and am delighted to have foundyour channle. I'm going to watch all your videos. If they are all as good as this they'll be well worth it.
Hi there Tyler. Appreciate your comments about the video and glad you enjoyed it. I am getting a bit 'Long in the Tooth' so one day all my treasures will have to go...but IF I can hang on to them a bit longer, I will be grateful! Cheers and Merry Xmas, Dave G.
Hi there Ant. Really appreciate your kind comments and continued support. This makes all the time and work (without payment) seem worthwhile! Last weekend I was fortunate to inspect two medal groups to 'Ex-Boers' who later fought in WW1. Both had the DTD Boer decoration, as well as a British DCM and another with a DSO. Really magnificent groups of medals. Cheers and Merry Xmas, Dave G.
Hi Stephen, Thanks for your kind kind comments. The monument for Lood's father, Henning Pretorius, is located at the Church Street Cemetery in Pretoria. If you refer to the 'Long Tom' statue, that is located at 'Long Tom Pass' in the eastern Transvaal. After the last battle here, all four Long Toms were destroyed by the Boers. Cheers, Dave G.
@carvingsfromtheveldt5945 Hi Dave, thanks for the reply and I hope that you are keeping well. I will be visiting the Kruger National Park next month with my wife. Will the trip from O R Tambo airport take us anywhere near Long Tom Pass?
@@stephenhunt3200 It is in that area..I think about 1.5 hours from Kruger Park. Best to ask your tour guide. Sadly I have never been there. Enjoy your holiday. Cheers, Dave G.
Hi Rowan, Thanks for watching. Does your carbine S/No. 3603 have a name or any decorations carved onto the stock? If so, please send me a photo? Cheers, Dave G.
Awesome Dave - and thanks for keeping this history alive.

Thank you Dave for an outstanding video. Where is the monument at 1:55? He is mentioned on page 174 of your excellent Vol 2, but no monument is shown.
