- If you want to improve your toy photography, learning lighting skills is the best way to do it.
In this video, I'll introduce you to the 4 characteristics of light -- quality, quantity, color temperature and direction -- which you'll use in deciding what kind of lights you'll need for your setups.
This is the first in my series of videos on lighting, and my ultimate goal here is to take you to creative lighting with flash.

I love this! Finally a clear and concise lighting series that focusses on the basics of Toy photography. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series!
Thanks! Already putting together the next video!
Your videos are really great! Thank you for sharing so many of your insights and tricks!
That was lovely and clear and precise - a bit like hard light! :)
Ha! Thanks! I have no gift for waffle.
Awesome video! Great explanations! Keep it up!
Awesome tutorial, thank you!
So much amazing info in one short video! Thank you for making the basics of lighting so easy to understand!
I'm so happy you're doing this series.
Great video, I’m looking forward to the next videos in this series!
Love it!!!!please continue with your videos!!!
Awesome video. Cannot wait for the next one!
Thanks! I'll be checking out more of your series here, and you've gained a subscriber. Got into Lego stop motion over a year and a half ago,
and am looking for ways to improve my lighting of my subjects. I also recently bought a light box setup, which only has overhead lights, but
they can be changed from cold to warm and dimmed, as needed.
Always love your videos
Thank You. Great Tips. Looking forward to more!
Great! 😍 Looking forward to the next one!
Great video as always. Unless there is much post editing going on, I would also like to watch a tutorial about how to capture shafts of light through the tiny windows. That particular effect just takes the picture on another level.
Fantastic tutorial, clear explanation.
Great video! Really clear and helpful! Can’t wait to see other videos about lighting.
Thanks! I think the next one will be LED vs Flash lighting.
I have been looking for this type of video for weeks now lol. I just started in toy photography 2 months ago. My biggest issue is lighting. How to use it and how much to use. I was referred to this series by a fellow photographer on toyphotography.com. So glad he did. Really looking forward to watching the rest of you series.
Thanks for watching and for leaving this comment! I appreciate it.

Your videos are awesome :) Really good for beginners!
Thanks! I'm glad they helped! Stay tuned 😉
@@FourBricksTall I'm a Toy Collector from India! But I don't have any such professional equipments for lighting. May be you can do a video on household items that can be used for lighting.
@@IndianToyCollector You can use a flashlight as I showed in this video or whatever light source you have. There are more limitations to them than a flash or a video light that are designed for use with cameras, so you just need to bear in mind that household items likely won't have the brightness or features of these lights. The characteristics of light apply to all light ;)
You are so amazing!
Thanks! I'll try not to disappoint!
@@FourBricksTall GOOD IDEA!
Wow! Some great points! I’ll have to be one those led panels! Just wondering... Where did you get that one or what model is it?
Thank you! I would hold off on buying LED panels because by the end of this series, you'll see how much more versatile flash is. An LED vs flash video is on the list 😉
Four Bricks Tall Ok! Thanks for the tip!

Did you custom make the “apocalypse”set? It was at about 3:24 into the video.
I based off another mech build. It's somewhere on my Instagram.
