My Son ( now 4.5 yrs) had lost his entire right eye due to retinoblastoma when he was 1.5 yrs old. I had read Pittsburgh based Dr. Kia Washington's ground breaking research on whole eye transplantation which is supposed to functional on human trial within a decade. What is the possibility of this solution in India?
Do you have few more details arround this? I am also waiting for this research for my brother. I did little analysis, Kia Washington has made this 'decade' comment in 2016. Ideally by 2026 we should expect something. But there is no news on it
@@atribhattacharyya2631 i am also a software engineer, i am a full stack engineer. 1.5 million grant was given in 2014 or 2016 itself. India has not even started doing research on it but I am happy that atleast somewhere it is being considered and worked upon. I also believe there would be some solution but not sure how long it will take. Along with this whole eye transplant research i am also hopeful for neuralink too, the idea of directly projecting the images to the brain is also a good approach.

My Son ( now 4.5 yrs) had lost his entire right eye due to retinoblastoma when he was 1.5 yrs old. I had read Pittsburgh based Dr. Kia Washington's ground breaking research on whole eye transplantation which is supposed to functional on human trial within a decade. What is the possibility of this solution in India?
Yes. Maybe. Its highly experimental. But we can be hopeful

I did little analysis, Kia Washington has made this 'decade' comment in 2016. Ideally by 2026 we should expect something. But there is no news on it

1.5 million grant was given in 2014 or 2016 itself. India has not even started doing research on it but I am happy that atleast somewhere it is being considered and worked upon.
I also believe there would be some solution but not sure how long it will take. Along with this whole eye transplant research i am also hopeful for neuralink too, the idea of directly projecting the images to the brain is also a good approach.
@@Engineer_With_A_Life Great to know.. I think as per their research, optical nerve regeneration is the current hurdle in human trial.. although as per their government medical abstract, WET gave remarkable result on rodent models.. unfortunately human eye is too complex to transplant fully today..
@@atribhattacharyya2631 Unfortunately this rodent update was the last update from their side, that too they have made in 2016, its been 6 years till now, i was hoping to see few more updates, the current state of the research, what they have achieved till now. They have not mentioned anything yet.
