    Nice Siamese, I can tell she's very regal indeed, got a black one myself ! Good repair on the Sony too. Wonderful sound for such a small unit. A chap who worked for the BBC I knew had one as "Company Issue".

    I remember when tape-to-tape reel machines (like Panasonic etc), were so big and got so hot, they had bloody fans built into the back of 'em. That's when you know you're getting old!! Built better then too. Probably because they didn't build so much in bloody China back then (?!). Carry on with the great vids.

    Great work dear mate as always. I never worked on such cassette players having DC to DC inverter in them. I saw them in other machines like PC, laptop and other computer stuff. Reason is obvious here as there are two battery cells powering the unit. Thanks for the nice upload. Regards,

      +LearningZone With Sony it was always about making the unit as small and efficient as possible. WHereas most recorders of this era used 4 or 6 "C" size batteries to operate, Sony wanted to do it with 2 D cells. The logic was 2 D cells will store more energy than C cells. The pinnacle of efficiency would be the Walkman WM10 and WMF10 (I have both, and should showcase these units as they were cassette players the size of a cassette case) They operated on a single AA battery, and used a flat 3 phase BSL motor. Very high tech for a Walkman. The coolest and most fragile Walkman of all time, and the F10mk2 which is what I have had an AM/FM radio in it to boot!

    Hello. Absolutely fantastic learning Chanel. I have the pro version of this machine with xlr inputs. Brilliant engineering with full metal case and sounds better then some home decks. Thanks also for your DAT videos, I have repaired my Walkman TCD-D8 by watching your videos. Next up is my DTS-1000ES for service. Looking out for a car DAT which Sony only made one of, bit hard to find here in the UK though. Best of health.

    Loverly job sir, your framing was spot on :-).
    .
    lol that cat is a tinker, but cute as hell so welcome to visit you :-D
    Thankfully the sony didnt have any really nasty damage, dropping stuff can really make a mess, like those old look meters on the front, i just think about the tiny coiled springs that connect the movement, horrible if damaged :-(
    Thats a nice looking unit, love the way it looks.
    Ahh the record/play mode switch, bloody horrible multicontact loooooong switch.
    Ive de soldered them and dissasembled to clean the contacts/sliders with paper soaked in switch cleaner, they are allways black in colour for some reason, once cleaned i lube them to stop dampness getting in, a pain but worth the effort :-D

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  8 лет назад

      +Lachlant1984 That is actually the very first Minidisk recorder ever made. It is an MZ1, and the serial number of this unit is #106!Here is a little info on this historic unit.www.walkmancentral.com/products/mz-1Incidentally I have an MZ1, and MZ2P which is the playback only identical unit, but the MZ2 has a weak laser. It will play prerecorded disks but not self recorded disks, but this MZ1 works perfectly. Only problem is the NiCd battery is fubar.
