Love mine, use it for VR. It's been a beast for the last year or so. Had to replace the 1535 network module. Was able to use a Killer 1550 chip with zero issues.
Well, Why was there a sticker, covering one of the screws, which says "Warranty sticker. Void if tempered" on my Msi laptop? Needed to take apart the whole laptop, just to plug the cmos battery in and out. I could see the battery after taking off that small backplate, but couldnt unplug it. So I literally needed to take separate the whole thing (top, bottom, keyboard, mobo, frame). Was a pain.
killerra Why does it say "void if tampered" then? If it was like you are saying it would say "Be careful. Open at your own risk. Warranty void if damaged."
They want to scare away people who can't handle it. Again, if you contact MSI support, they'll confirm what I've said. Just opening the bottom does not void the warranty.
+PolandGamerPL Precisely for dweebs like yourself who shouldn't be fking around inside the case without knowing what they are doing. ...And from your own testimony its proof that it works!
I think it's more prudent to not see this so much as a notebook but, more like a great desktop replacement. For someone that has limited space; Small apartment where a full blown Desktop would eat too much space or needs to secure the equipment when not in use e.g high burglary areas. Then there are those that will buy because they can. Also, this would be awesome for lan party's. This is also as much of a tech demo from MSI as it is a marketable product. Let's not forget that pushing the boundaries of what is possible on high end kit is how innovation and economies of scale allow this kind of tech to filter down to the general consumer from generation to generation!
Something that kills me about all these new laptops is the fact that you are paying upwards of 3000 or more for them, but they put dirvers on a disc when there is no disc drive in the machine. They should step up and put them on a usb drive for the amount of money you are paying for the system.
The single 1080 version makes more sense, the SLI version has too many limitations (two power supplies for example or the lack of support for SLI for future games and DirectX 12...I think).
The box you showed says 1080p and it advertises 120 FPS with 5 ms response time. Does the 4K version do 1080p @ 120 FPS as well? MSI's website says no but the box said otherwise. Which is correct?
Do you know if it would work to flash another vbios onto my msi gt62vr 6re ? G sync doesn't seem to work on mine, the panel it's got is 4K, on the MSI website there are only 2 vbios's for my laptop , one for 1080p G sync and one for 4k panels non G sync... I already tryed to flash but nvflash gave me error saying there is a mismatch. Last thin i could try is to take the vbios protection off with nvflash and flash the gsync vbios , ps: both of the vbios's are for gtx 1070. Since there is no actual module for g sync on a laptop screen i dont think it could hurt to flash the other bios or am i completely wrong? Anyways i love your review vids mate. Keep it up!
I think the power bricks are not a negative point since the laptop itself isnt mobile at all. This is a high end desktop replacement which will be 100% of the time on the desk. If someone switches apartment often, or moves overseas etc, in these scenarios i can see why this thing is a good idea. 1070 is still overkill though. A single 1070 even is extremely powerful in a desktop machine, without heat or power restrictions. HAving 4k on a 17" is ridiculous and unnecessary. To enjoy higher resolutions - the cards can definetly support it - you will get a nice and big 32"-40" 4K external screen/TV. The laptop screen can be off. 17" is pretty much fine with full HD or 1440p max.
yet they could have made a little less cumbersome, I don't know if there is any circuitry inside that connector as it is very easy to parallel DC voltage, nothing fancy needed. Although I don't know the input voltage for the laptop nor the output voltage of the power bricks(guessing output is somewhere between 19-20V) so can't say if there is any need for any booster circuit or not.
Redwan Hasan I assume is purely because of performance need. That beast of a laptop eats up 300-400W on high load, so yeah...Also, you wanna make sure those bricks survive at least couple of years while having them on many hours every day.
zeus1117 well i understand the need for two bricks as one might be just way too big, kinda like a sfx pc power supply but this bricks are smart this days, they usually come with low voltage, short circuit, high current and temperature protection in many cases. I hope msi also uses something similar. My point was the port that takes in two of those connectors and make one, i think it could be omitted and have maybe two dc jacks, slightly smaller ones and if you connect one then the system won't allow you to use sli or something like that.
I used to like high spec laptops. But recently I've really liked laptops with a good CPU and "average" video card combined with an external GPU on my desk (thunderbolt 3)
Despite what the sticker says on the back of the laptop, MSI will still honour your warranty if you open it up, provided the problem you're claiming for isn't a result of damage you yourself have caused. So you are able to add more RAM, swap SSD's etc. without voiding the warranty, but just be careful not to damage anything when doing so!
anyone plz help I'm a noob when it comes to gaming laptops never had one before but I'm on the market and will this laptop work perfect for music production?
Nice video! However, recording the screen while a game is running (assuming you didn't use an external capture card) will skew the FPS numbers in games down. Plus, it looked like Doom wasn't running in SLI.
I honestly dont see why anyone would spend 3 grand on a notebook to get 4k resolution on a 17 inch screen. There is no notable difference when i play games on my MSI GE72 apache with a GTX 970 next to my friends MSI with a 17 inch 4k screen. He uses his with a GTX 980 sli in 1080 all the time for the extra frame rates for that reason. My advise, buy a Apache with a single 1070 and save £1500 without the weight and bulk of this machine. Of course, if you plug in to a large screen monitor via the display ports its a different story but then you might as well get a desktop PC.
SLI is not enabled... Doom 4 at 4K nightmare settings, averages 71 fps with a single gtx1080. Your averaging less than that with (2) gtx1070's!!! (2) GTX 1070's is much faster than a single GTX 1080. You need to enable SLI dude lol. (2) GTX 1070's scale in 27 out of 30 games nowadays. Well, your results showed single GPU utilization through the entire test range of games! You made this laptop look stupid today. The power you showed us, was with something of a single GPU configuration, and can be had for around $1,200 on sale. I feel bad for MSI, and this poor representation.
Ugh this thing literally makes no sense. Why have dual 1070's if you cant power 4k at 60hrz? If you are just going to drop it down to 1080p Just get a laptop with a single 1070 so you don't have to lug around two giant bricks. This is one of those impulse buys that people make and regret it 1 yr later when under $2k latop's will be able to power 4k at 60hrz.
This Was My Choice For My Dream Laptop... But Well Too Expensive... So I Chose Alienware 15 Which Is Less Pricey... Hmmm You Can't Have All The Good Things In Life Heheh...
First Time In My Life Having A Gaming Laptop... And Yes, It Is Awesome!... And Also I Love It's Other Feature, The Graphics Amplifier... But I Need To Invest For That One... For Now, Just This Laptop Heh heh...
did I even mention desktops??? Nope ... I merely pointed out it's a laptop not a notebook. But thanks for your input anyways regardless of how pointless it was ;)
lmao ... at least you're funny ;) ... triggered into some kind of 'desktop dweeb anger' by a comment that didn't even mention desktops ... and then thinks it has something to do with semantics ..... LOL .... brilliant :D :D
TechGoat Dumbfk, your entire asinine semantical meltdown regarding some imagined difference between laptops and notebooks is superfluous given the fact that it is a luggable DESKTOP REPLACEMENT. Now go clean up your bedroom before your mommy has to tell you to do so.
I personally very like big notebook and will buy me this GT73VR soon
MichalPlays same here (: can't wait to get mine
hows ur laptop now ?
Love mine, use it for VR. It's been a beast for the last year or so. Had to replace the 1535 network module. Was able to use a Killer 1550 chip with zero issues.
Removing the bottom does NOT void the warranty, unless you break something. This is straight from MSI support.
It's just a warning to be careful. Ask MSI and they'll tell you.
killerra Why does it say "void if tampered" then? If it was like you are saying it would say "Be careful. Open at your own risk. Warranty void if damaged."

I have an old laptop from ~1998 around somewhere... Its not as tall or as heavy as this.
Something that kills me about all these new laptops is the fact that you are paying upwards of 3000 or more for them, but they put dirvers on a disc when there is no disc drive in the machine. They should step up and put them on a usb drive for the amount of money you are paying for the system.

Why paint the copper heat-pipes? Won't that act as an insulator?
The box you showed says 1080p and it advertises 120 FPS with 5 ms response time. Does the 4K version do 1080p @ 120 FPS as well? MSI's website says no but the box said otherwise. Which is correct?
Yes, I would like to know that, too. Are you sure that the 4k version of the panel has 120hz?
mpgxsvcd Do you have a answer ?? Cuz i have the same question
No, just the 1080 panel has 120hz refresh rate. 4k model is 60hz
This we can use 3d modeling and animation
Great video ! How was overclocking performance? What effect on temperatures did it have?
This Gaming Notebook is almost perfect.... The only problem that it has is the battery....BUT WHO PLAYS GAMES IN PARK ANYWAY!!!???
Thanks for great review.
do you recommend this Notebook for 4K video editing? if Not, which other Notebook do you recommend?
thanks
so can you save the battery life by switching to integrated gpu by pressing that button?
Does switching between integrated graphic and the 1070 make huge different in battery life?
Do you know if it would work to flash another vbios onto my msi gt62vr 6re ? Excellent video review. Thank you!
Thanks for watching Peter!
great review vortez.
Please help me , can I add a new hdd on sli socket side?
I have Question That is Why Xbox One X give 60Fps on 4K and Beast PC with i-9 Dual 1080Ti gives less than 55 FPS??
Are you sure that the 4k version of the panel has 120hz?
hey man should i buy this or GT73 with the GTX 1080? is it a bif difference with this 2 graphic cards?
(battrie) How much time is left in the case .. game/normal
For some reason everytime I listen to the sound test, a plane keeps flying over

true for me too, i tried playing war thunder on a 15.6" lenovo laptop and i can barely see anything.
Is this still worth it thinking of buying it for£450
Is it still 120HZ screen at 4K?
Yes, I would like to know that, too. Are you sure that the 4k version of the panel has 120hz?
No it is 60hz then
At least i can't see a 120hz options at 4k
of course not...
Just run into your channel And Thank you for your review and i just subscribe Take care
Do you get a bag with this ?
I used to like high spec laptops. But recently I've really liked laptops with a good CPU and "average" video card combined with an external GPU on my desk (thunderbolt 3)
Hey vortex help me plzz.
What would u recommend a gt73vr 1070 sli or the gt73vr with a single grx 1080
thats the same question i wanna know too
Vortez help me on this - should i upgrade my rig
My spec - i5 3570 non k , 8gb ddr3 1600 , gtx 760 2gb asus direct cu II oc edition.
Really depends on what you're using the rig for. If its gaming, looks like it could do with an upgrade there - especially the GPU.
***** can it last 1 more year. any setting will do.
Can you get a GT73VR with only one GTX 1080 and upload a video with the same benchmarks and review?
XTREME PC GAMER these are 1070s. I got the same model with a single 1070. Gt73vr 6re. Now if I could just afford the vr stuff
TypeOhh Gamer is it much weaker than with 1070sli?

is the battery removable in case of failure?
It isn't - well at least, if you want to remain within warranty.
Those gameplays are With or Without Antialiasing?.
Without!
Thanks, nice review (of the product) nothing about VR ?
Thanks. What about VR? It's VR ready - more than capable, but at the moment its tricky to demonstrate a test for end users.
MSI have confirmed to me in an email removing the back to upgrade the ram and SSDS & HDD it does NOT void your warranty !!!
anyone plz help I'm a noob when it comes to gaming laptops never had one before but I'm on the market and will this laptop work perfect for music production?
Vicente Benitez This is more than enough for music production. This laptop is made for desktop replacement, and as such is meant for heavy duty games.
KoaleTey thanks bro (: awesome
the notebook has CD player?
no
how with 2 gtx 1070 doom run on 35 fps i have 980 m with 60 fps and dues ex mankind divided by 14fps 😓
Lapdesktop nowadays is getting crazy..
am i the only one thinking this is uberkill with the price? gtx1060 with 1080p for $800-1k is perfect enough
There already is a configuration of this laptop with 1080p display and a single 1070.
great music
Nice video! However, recording the screen while a game is running (assuming you didn't use an external capture card) will skew the FPS numbers in games down. Plus, it looked like Doom wasn't running in SLI.
in south africa it is R67000

Aye I see everyone making up reasons why not to get this laptop... but man if you do give aways I will take it in a heart beat lol.
This dude looks like Sco from Method in world of warcraft.
Wow😍😍😍
dat fans sound is equal to a $4000 server chassis
And 6 years later, laptops cool less tdp, cost more and weigh the same
hoollyy shit...the fan noise😱😱😱
best rgb keyboard?! have him even seen the Razer Blade and works x5 dt ones 😂

At what point does a laptop become a desktop? Because there's no way that's going to sit comfortably on your lap...
Its a luggable desktop replacement. At what point does the "I can build a desktop for $7" crowd wake up and stop whining?
your only getting performance of a single gtx1070
Wow

in our country it cost like 270k lols
Kristopher Danday Dear God where do you live? Down here it cost's $6000-$6100
why the F*** do they call it the titan sli when it has NOTHING to do with titan gpus... this is BS, its 1070 sli, not titan sli
Or perhaps they refer to Titan for the same reason NVidia does, and the model of gpu DOESN'T matter, Nimrod.
gimme gimme gimme... i crie everytiem..
I FOUND THIS ON AMAZON FOR 450$
well atleast this laptop enough for minecraft lol
This Was My Choice For My Dream Laptop... But Well Too Expensive...

what a pointless LAPTOP ....... yes its a LAPTOP not a notebook ;)
LMAO! Yet another "I can build a desktop for $7" dweeb.... Can you travel with it on an airplane?
did I even mention desktops??? Nope ... I merely pointed out it's a laptop not a notebook. But thanks for your input anyways regardless of how pointless it was ;)
