Since this is getting a lot of views, I'd like to answer some stuff that keeps reappearing in the comments: 1) "Why not reverse": This story was based on a "real" story I found on reddit where a similar situation took place (kid approaching military vehicle). Regardless of whether the story is true or not, I thought it was good enough, and honestly that question never crossed my mind, I'm sure that to the outside viewer it would've made sense, and it is clear that in this case it was a storytelling flaw. 2) "What is a Stryker doing on its own": Due to limited time, I had to settle with just the one stryker and its crew. I hoped the implication of more units being far apart would solve this issue but that wasn't the case. Again, a storytelling flaw 3) "Clear the road": That's hilarious ngl 4) "This is unrealistic / too dramatic": I know that military dramatizations are always expected to be realistic. Realism wasn't a strong point to pursue, like I said, I had to little time to finish this. Hopefully next time I get to balance the scale between fiction and reality, because I know the feeling of satisfaction when things are done right.
But that's how lots of soldiers do be like in real life tho, just like Arma 3 kill civilian, no matter on accident or not, laugh it off and just not report it.

I knew where this was going right when they accepted the first batch of cookies. Theres a reason you are commonly told to NOT accept gifts like this from locals, especially children. I have heard personal accounts of things just like this occurring near buddies of mine. It was a very common tactic.
Yeah, it’s messed up but this is why soldiers aren’t allowed to form bonds or any type of relationship with the locals there WHILE they’re working since the bond they form with the locals can easily be exploited by the enemy and if the naive soldiers survive, they’ll get an unbearable amount of PTSD from it for the rest of their lives.

One day she walked in with a backpack and they had no idea what was about to happen. Everyone was screaming at her to stay back but she didnt understand english which made it worse. Sadly, i think it was one of the higher ranked ones that shot the girl. They checked the backpack and all that was inside were drawings.

For future reference there is no stryker that has both a RWS and a LRASS. The recon variant has an LRASS and gun mount on the same turret, that rotates together. The gun is operated personally. Infantry variants have that RWS

IEDs are a lot cheaper than RPG rockets. Plus they were not within effective range. Most likely they would have missed, and alerted the Stryker crew of their position.

Honestly my main takeaway is that usage of guerrilla warfare and civilian combatants are the real enemies. I mean, the reason people like Islamic extremists use civilians is specifically BECAUSE their enemy has higher standards of honor than them, in hopes to exploit that against them. War is oftentimes an inevitable part of human conflict, but it’s things like the Geneva convention that try to make it as humans as possible to carry out.

Those were not 50 cal rounds. They were probably 20-30mm explosive rounds normally fired by infantry fighting vehicles. Which makes it even more brutal

That was excellent! It's hard for regular people to truly understand how horrifying war is. In my opinion this was a great portrayal. I know the type of scenario in this video is on the more rare side, but still: The types of decisions soldiers have to make, the things they have to live with if they even make it home alive. This video gives a taste of what that could be like. Great work sir!

Damm I swear i read a story similar to this one a few years ago about a group of soldiers that were guarding a checkpoint or smth and they made friends with a group of locals and their kids would bring them food in exchange for candy. But one day instead of a group of people, just one girl came and she was walking slowly carrying a bag of explosives. I remember he wrote they were hesitant to shoot her and their seargent was screaming death threats on the radio to shoot that girl.

Honestly my main takeaway is that usage of guerrilla warfare and civilian combatants are the real enemies. I mean, the reason people like Islamic extremists use civilians is specifically BECAUSE their enemy has higher standards of honor than them, in hopes to exploit that against them. War is oftentimes an inevitable part of human conflict, but it’s things like the Geneva convention that try to make it as humans as possible to carry out.

Those were not 50 cal rounds. They were probably 20-30mm explosive rounds normally fired by infantry fighting vehicles. Which makes it even more brutal

That was excellent! It's hard for regular people to truly understand how horrifying war is. In my opinion this was a great portrayal. I know the type of scenario in this video is on the more rare side, but still: The types of decisions soldiers have to make, the things they have to live with if they even make it home alive. this was. . . absolutely tragic and gut-wrenching. even though i already knew what was gonna happen at the very end, seeing the full story as to how it got to that point made it so much more impactful.
and part of why it was so emotionally effective was because of the quality. this was super well done in every department in my opinion. sound design, voice acting, storytelling, the animation itself. . . all really well done, and it made the impact of the story that much better. i joined the crew in collective solemness at the end, haha. . .
really shows the horrors of warfare that you don't hear about too often, too. overall, really well done.
