Get a notebook/journal! The best book about gardening you will ever have is the one you write! Regarding pictures, they will provide valuable information even several years later. When taking notes, you don't always know what to write down; as you learn more, you can go back to your pictures and see things you didn't see before. This includes the dates on your digital photos - very useful information!

Do no dig. I put the raised bed frame down on the grass. Covered with cardboard and the four inches of unrotted manure. This is in autumn. Come spring you just plant straight into it.
I plant extra kale outside my nets for the pigeons.

my tip is don't plant too much on the first year, use cover crops like mustard, red clover or field beans and dig in manure if possible. That way you are satisfying the council in terms of usage of the space but also improving the soil quality and protecting it overwinter. Then plant small amounts at a time in staggered plantings and don't plant too many courgettes!

I just got my allotment a couple of weeks ago, almost a year before I expected based on the wait lists, so I am unprepared and overwhelmed!

Nice informative video. My 3 S: Sun (amount of sun required by the plant: I.e. lettuces appreciate to be planted in between larger crops...), Soil (some plants do better in richer soil: potatoes, courgettes.../ some other dont: wild strawberry...) Space (space division / amount of space required per plant/ companion planting). 👍🙂🌱🌱

How do you cost-effective build a raised bed as I don’t have much money but I’d like some raised beds on my new allotment as there are no raised beds?

I'd love to know this as well as we finally have a few viewings tomorrow. I will be asking local building companies if they have any pallets that I could have as last week my neighbours contractor gave us some and I built staging for my greenhouse, they were a nightmare to get apart and remove the nails though! We got them for free as the builders used to return them for money but you can't do that anymore

I take an air pistol down to take care of any rogue birds who might fancy a free meal on my dollar, works a treat and I know others may disagree, but is actually quite fun. Makes you feel like old day hunter gatherers fighting nature for food!
