I test rode an Indian Chieftain, Triumph Commander and a HD Fatboy. They were all good bikes in various ways but not enough for me to want to buy one. I then thought of trying a Guzzi Eldorado. Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition, I immediately knew that this was going to be different. A 240 mile test ride later, their was no question to be answered. More character by far, torque and power in abundance with handling and breaking that was better by far than any of the others. I have done 2 tours of Europe on it and it has never let me down. It is also beautifully made. I love riding this bike and it’s for keeps

Great experience. Thanks for comment. I am so happy for you! I wish one day I also own the 1400 Guzzi and ride around the Europe. As you said, the character is there and it can be hardly compared with other bikes. Great!

The Guzzi California comes with bags, windscreen, etc., but the Eldorado is a naked bike, so I'm curious what luggage you used on your two tours of Europe? I prefer the Eldorado, but haven't seen any good solutions for carrying luggage, etc. Great to know that you are loving it! Thanks for your comment.

@@theloveman9 I totally agree with you that the Eldorado is more prefereable. The Eldo can easily be set up with Hepco & Becker leather panniers wich can be removed in the blink of an eye, and it even looks great. On my eldo I have mounted the original California hard panniers, wich is a little bit more fuzz, but the space and look makes up for that.

Have just crashed my Eldorado and immediately bought another, that says something or not?
The Eldorado is the best bike I've ever had, after Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Triumph.
    Moto Guzzi for ever.

Last summer I test rode an Eldorado. It left a lasting impression, like the first time I test rode a Harley-Davidson. There is this feeling that all is well in the world. When I rode the HD, I ended up buying one. After test riding the Eldorado, I bought a California. Same bike, but I like the windshield and bags. It's a gentle giant with unsuspected power when you need it, like the Honda Valkyrie that came before it in my garage.

This is the most beautiful bike in the Guzzi lineup. I have ridden these extensively (I lead the demo rides for Guzzi at the Sturgis Rally). Yes, it handles more responsively than the Audace or the MGX21, but it takes me back to the feel of my old '74 LAPD model Eldorado. The best brakes of any of the cruisers that I have ridden and a look that knocks it out of the ballpark!

YIKES! Could it be? An ACTUAL review of a Guzzi that desn't consist of:
    1. Some knucklehead with shaky hands doing a 'walkaround' with his camera phone or
    2. Stock bike picks overlaid with one of those G**D*** computer voices!
    Thanks for the honest review.

Beautiful bike! Great video in a beautiful country! I ride a 2014 Cali 1400 Touring. 12,000 miles and still loving it. Plenty of leg room for me (180 cm/5'9"). What a sweet ride! Here in the US we suffer for lack of dealerships. Hopefully that will change. That's the main thing that's holding back sales of Guzzis in the US. Still, well worth it to ride a bike with such amazing character.

I'm an American who rides a Harley Street Glide for touring, but would love to have one of these Italian bikes for a second bike. I say as a second bike because in the vast expanses of the U.S.A., I would not not be comfortable taking it on a long ride due to a lack of dealership support here in America. A breakdown could possibly find you shipping your bike home. However, I love the styling and the character of that motor and envision this bike as my Sunday afternoon cruiser to local places. My Harley riding friends think I'm crazy, but I say to them "chow baby" lol. I think it's a classy looking bike.

I'm Canadian and I bought a Calfornia (an Eldorado with a windshield and hard bags) last summer. For a little perspective, a dozen years ago, I owned a Harley which I kept for many years. The worst thing it ever did was when the heel portion of the shifter fell off (twice), so, despite HDs reputation for being troublesome and having bits falling off, mine was trouble-free until I sold it 8 years later. I haven't owned the Cali for very long, but just like modern HDs don't deserve their reputation, I'm pretty sure that modern Guzzis don't either. I certainly wouldn't have any hesitation about taking it cross-country, despite there being even fewer dealerships on a vaster territory. In fact, the only thing I would want to plan ahead are the oil changes because it requires 10W60 oil which isn't readily available, though easy to find on Amazon.

@@CaptHollister I took my first test ride on a California today and came away very impressed with this bike. I remember looking at Moto Guzzis back in 2003 and thinking they looked cheaply made. Well the one I rode today was a very nice bike. It had Augistino (sp?) exhaust and sounded great. Fit and finish were dramatically improved over the ones I remember back when. Honestly, if I wasn't't still paying for my HD I'd be picking up one of these much to the chagrin of my wife, lol. The list price was $13,995 U.S., a great buy IMHO.

You are worried about a breakdown because you are used to Harley's. Other bikes don't breakdown as often such as my Honda Shadow.

Why was the picture blurred on the speedo? This happened at 8.42 into the video. That's why I like closed coarse testing with multiple cameras on& off board, plus a radar gun showing correct speed versus speedometer.

Something just occurred to me while watching you ride that spectacular road - I would move there just for that alone, that while the rest of the motorcycle industry builds big wallowing cruisers with soft suspicion and not ground clearance, Moto Guzzi builds theirs to handle twisty roads, because that's what the roads are where they build them.
It looks like it steers quite well. Did you find yourself running out of ground clearance in the corners much - or at all?
Great looking bike too. I can see many reasons to buy one.

What is max lean angle before scraping parts? This is critical in my bike buying. Also the music on this video is way too loud. Bring voice and music to an equal.

One of the easiest bikes to ride. When it takes corners, you wonder if Moto Guzzi secretly installed A.I., as again and again, it seems to turn itself.

I can't help but wonder if the sideways engine has something to do with that. With that rotating mass in that direction the engines gyroscopic motion would allow for easy leaning. I could be wrong.

    • @kimkleiner8456
      @kimkleiner8456 11 месяцев назад

@@homeontherange733 I am of the same opinion. Had a v7 sport and it was rock solid in fast sweepers. Just inspired confidence. Best handling bike i have ever ridden. Had to give it up and regretted it ever since. Replaced it with some BMW's . Mostly GS models with the most aggressive tires with dot approval and wiith longer travel suspension so kinda an apples to oranges comparison but never experienced that same gyroscopic feeling. Maybe that proves i am full of ₩¥£₩!?
