  • I ride the London Underground (Tube) from King's Cross to Leicester Square as a native New Yorker. It was interesting taking the Piccadilly Line for the first time. I thought it came quite quickly but it was a rather old line.

    Picadilly Line trains have storage room for bags in the middle of the coaches; they were customized like this because they serve Heathrow. They are smaller with less legroom because they travel in compact, deep-level tunnels. The trains can only be made as big. On the other hand, the Circle Line tunnels are just below the surface and larger, so they can accommodate bigger trains.

    Piccadilly tube trains are going to be the first deep line trains to be replaced with walk through air con carriages at the start of 2025. The lines with new tube trains are the sub surface tube lines which have bigger tunnels and therefore trains.

    You took the waaay long way around to get on the piccy at kx st p. From platform 9&3/4 you actually need to walk straight back out to the Euston Rd entrance, down the steps, turn right thru the barriers and take the left hand escalator right in front of you. This leads directly to the piccadilly line platforms. That access tunnel you took is relatively new and is by far the longest way to navigate the station

    Hello my favorite little hiker! I see with enthusiasm that you have just arrived in Europe! Great ! Also to help you I'm becoming a Giant Panda for 3 months! After which I would become a Red Panda again! You show us a London with a very New York look. I had no idea that London was so vast and airy, it's a city where you can breathe unlike NYC. You have made progress in your video captures, your traveling is much more flexible than before, your viewing angles are more sophisticated. However, you must not forget to show the shops. You should go look for unusual places, use your camera like a bird's eye and go find magical places, which fascinate the eye! Your video captures reflect the atmosphere of this megalopolis well. Maybe you could rent an electric scooter and show us around greater London! And finally, be proud to be an American citizen, the land of freedom! We really appreciate you! See you !

    The Piccadilly line accounts for more than 10% of all journeys on the Tube, with around 200 million trips annually (before the pandemic) between destinations across north and west London, Heathrow Airport, the West End and King's Cross/St Pancras International.
    In London, 91 million Tube journeys were made in April 2023 90% of pre-pandemic. NYC subway Feb 2023 had 84.3million rides 64% pre-pandemic.

      Most of the people you see in London are tourists and commuters.
      The actual City of London is only 1.12 sq. Miles with a population of 9,123. Making it the smallest City in England. But has over 500,000 people commute in to work there. It is the main financial district.
      The rest of London is the City of Westminster where the houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace are. Plus 31 London Boroughs that are not City. Collectively referred to as Greater London. It is Greater London that People mistakenly believe is a City.
      To be a City in the UK a town has to be granted City Status by the monarch. Size and population are irrelevant. A City can also lose City Status. As happened to the former City Of Rochester near me In Kent. It was granted City status in 1227. By King Henry III, untill it lost it in 1998 & returned to being a town. Population is 67,274 making it 7.4 times larger than the City of London.

    • @ActionKid
      @ActionKid  7 месяцев назад

      I've experienced crowds in both cities!

    • @zupermaus9276
      @zupermaus9276 6 месяцев назад +2

      Think of London as a city with as big / bigger a population than NYC but without the highrises to inhabit, and a whopping 60% of the space devoted to green or open space (it's technically a woodland). If you read between the lines this means only a fraction of the city crams in the majority of the people, and most of them in public spaces. And why the population density appears so low on paper but soars in reality; when in fact Brits / Londoners enjoy the smallest average housing in the West, smaller than even the Japanese, and the crowds are immense -Oxford St alone gets 550,000 visitors a day, or 4x Times Square. Waterloo Station is similar at 500,000, and before the pandemic the Soho-Leicester Sq entertainment district received that each night; the Square Mile Financial District had a density of 600,000 by day and only 3,000 by night. Multiple chokepoints see over 100,000 punters a day, from Camden Market to Trafalgar Sq, the 6 main rail termini to tiny South Ken tube Station, and its two person stairwell for each direction. Bank-Monument tube station has a capacity of over 100,000 at any one time, similar to the world's largest stadia, but closes every 5 days on average due to overcrowding (though now resolved thanks to the upgrade). 7 international airports create the world's largest airhub, hosting 140 million passengers p/a (180m pre-pandemic), or twice the next runner-up. 30 million foreign tourists and over 100 million domestic. It's the only city with over 1 million stadium seats (and 7 major stadia), 1 million theatre seats etc.
      This may all seem exciting, but the pressure on the network can be catastrophic -the city is largely a construct designed for 6 million Victorians, not the 9.6 million today growing by over 100,000 each year and affecting everything from sewage to power, rent to building code. For example the tube has only two tracks for much of its route (unlike NYC which has 4), which means nothing can bypass. The tunnels and therefore carriages are small, so it has to absolutely rely on train frequency to handle the crowds -every minute or 90 seconds at rush hr. This also means one delay can affect the entire network, and paralyse multiple lines. Oh and aircon, only the newer lines have it - transporting animals at such high temperatures may be illegal but appear fine for millions of humans every summer, who just LOVE the armpit ambiance. The one thing going about the tube is at least its clean and civil, but not necessarily civilised at rush hr, through no fault of the commuters.
