- Dusted this one off from back in the day. Pretty straightforward documentary about the history of the batman character in the comics, and the 1966 show everybody remembers with Adam West and Burt Ward. Theres some great home videos in this too.
I was born in 88 and i remember watching this tape over and over as a child.
Dallas Box
Same here buddy, so much nostalgia 👍🏽
Born in 1980. I was blessed with shows like this!! RIP and much love Adam West!! My childhood cant get no better than this!!
I've been looking for this for absolute years!! I had a copy on VHS that I would always watch before watching Batman '89! I've lost it at some point, and have had such a hard time finding a copy of it! So happy you uploaded this!
RIP Adam West. THE Batman!! Born in 1980, when I 1st saw this show, I loved it, LOVED IT!! Didnt know the show was in 66, when I saw it at the time. Thats how good it was to me, seemed like its a brand new show. And that Batmobile... Wooo that vehicle was one of a kind and it still is a great one TO THIS DAY!!! One Love
I was born in 1985, I first watched Batman in reruns on syndication when I was 4 years old in 1989. “BAT-MANIA” was everything that Batman ever had. Even the 1989 movie version with Michael Keaton re-launched the franchise after its huge blockbuster success.
How have I never seen this one?! I have had Batmania From Comics to Screen from Christmas 1989, but I have never heard of this doc!!! Thank you for posting!
Now that I have watched it.. I have to say... whoever wrote this didn't do as much research as they should have. Their chronology is way off, and "Robin is dead...and even a second Robin who replaced him is dead, leaving Batman to go it alone." Where did they get THAT information? Clearly not from looking at any comic books. All in all still a great, enjoyable video with lots of great rare clips.
@@ryanlemay6296 also in the first serial from 1943 Batman was a U.S. Agent not a vigilante who was an adversary of the police like the narrator said in the video.
@@philipdefibaugh5683 right?! They are on a super secret mission from Uncle Sam! A lot of little mistakes in the video. Oh well.
@@ryanlemay6296 yes they both were U.S. Agents on a special mission to stop Japanese Axis villain Dr. Daka.
The narrator forgot to mention that Adam West lent his voice as Batman to the 1977 Filmation cartoon The New Adventures of Batman as well as Burt Ward as Robin? That cartoon is what got me into Batman into the first place.
Picked this out at a pawnshop in 1992. Still got it after all these years..although I think I cried when I took it home and I realized it wasn’t a real Batman movie
No brains.
Thanks for uploading, bought this on VHS in the 90s.
Nice to see Bill Finger and Jerry Robinson getting credit this far back in 1989!
Having rethought about Bob Kane and the contract he signed reducing Bill the others who worked on the comic to little more then ghost writers and ghost artist, Bill and all the others should've sued Kane. We don't know what went on behind those doors maybe Kane's ego got the best of him or DC didn't want to pay BIll or any of the others and since he was a ghost rider he didn't have to be credit or recieve a higher salary, or if pressure from his father who wanted to make sure Bob owned everything and was there as Bob's lawyer either way what Bob did, especally his response to Bill's interview
This is a very good enjoyable documentary about Batman and "Batmania" By the way Michael E. Uslan is the man responsible for relaunching "The Batman" craze in 1989 by bringing Batman back to his roots and getting "The Batman" movie made. I highly suggest reading Michael E. Uslan's "The Boy Who Loved Batman" for all Batman fans as well as those who are not Batman fans as it is an excellent read! Mr. Uslan's story is truly inspirational.
I remember that day 21 years ago I was little kid my favorite superhero of Batman.
Bill finger created Batman as far as im concerned. .
This is GREAT! Thanks so much- this is impossible to find!!
I had this VHS for some reason and used to watch it a lot as a kid
Thanks for uploading this. I have a copy on VHS, but it has tracking problems.
This is a documentary that only as a adult ( in my case 54 y old ) you can appreciate. Because these actors in most cases were taking risks with their careers.
I all do grue up watching this it my all time show 👍
Interesting that a documentary work from the 1980s was already acknowledging the role of Bill Finger as co-creator of Batman, and Jerry Robinson in co-creating the Joker.
It was incorrect, though, that the Joker's origin wasn't given until the 1989 movie. The "Red Hood" gangster origin, written by Bill Finger, was published in 1951.
Best TV show ever♥️👍
Bill Finger was robbed by Kane. Very sad.
I had this on VHS when I was a Kid
I still have this from 1994. It was too short & recorded in SLP play. This Program should have been edited w/ the other long version of Holy Batmania.
Time to be a nerd from hell lol
8:25 "um actually, it wasn't the Wizard's invention. He stole it from Professor Hamilton."
Thanks for posting
the '40s Batman they couldn't quite get the bat ears right they looked a bit too devilish.
I would have loved to have seen the following three pop out of that window;
William Shatner (Star Trek)
Rod Sterling (Twilight Zone)
Robert Stack (The Untouchables)
I just love the campiness of the TV series as a kid to a (so called) adult.
BATTASTICLY BATERRIFFIC!
SHARED! HAPPY BATDAY!
Had they stuck to the comics for the first Batman Serial I could see J. Carrol Nash being a rather convincing Joker
Wow. They are actually mentioning Bill Finger
I got this vhs.
❤
I remember buying this around the time they announced Batman the Animated Series, even then I knew the narration dropped the ball with Robin's comic history, I mean we all Know Dick became Nightwing and it was Jason Todd whom died ....
“Holy Guadalcanal, Batman!” I didn’t understand some of these things back when I saw Batman on TV, but I loved it anyway. Robin’s exclamations were pretty funny - and almost always with Burt Ward punching his hand.
Most people knew of batman from Adam west in the first place that led to the other batman movies that made batman more known to people
With the green hornet bruce lee was kato to the tv in Hong Kong that led to his movies and back to the United States with enter the dragon movie
Rip batman
Wait a minute hold on . Dick Grayson never “ died “ he went on to become Nightwing . The second Robin ( Jason Todd ) was murdered by the Joker( and the readers who didn’t like him) in “ A Death in the Family “ he would later be “resurrected “ as “ The Red Hood “ .
"A character created by Bob Kane"
No...
RIP Adam West.
Adam West was like the John Ritter of Batman.
I just bought both of these old series for 5.00 dollars at walmart
“It’s Commissioner Gordon…”
“I better take it.”
Like who the hell else would it be?
“…till you’ve done your homework and caught your criminals.” - What I’ll be telling my kids every night.
I have the Pilot movie and the complete 1966 tv series on Dvd
Good documentary but theres an error at 4:37. There was only one Robin that had ever died at that time (before 1990) in the books, and that was Jason Todd the second Robin.
+Dick Grayson
And the Robin they were refering to, Dick Grayson was by this point Nightwing
Whom was brought back to live in the comics by out of all people, Superboy Prime
Dick Grayson what up Dick Grayson I haven’t seen you since Batman the animated series Batman Forever and Batman and Robin
Dick Grayson and before that it said the joker’s origin wasn’t revealed until 1989, which is also wrong.
Back in the 1960s kids playing batman and buy cards with gum and toys and bat belt
Wow!!!!!
I had this!
This video stated "we did not find out the origin to the Joker until the 1989 Batman movie". This is incorrect. It was discussed in the comics in the early days.
I didn't know Batman was around long time
Batman is relatable because he has no super powers.
I know Jason died when when exactly did Dick die as this documentary mentions.
He didn't, he became Nightwing. The guy just didn't do his research
Yeah, I momentarily wondered, "Did Dick originally die? I don't remember that."
Was this unlicensed? I feel like DC wouldve made them pay for this footage!!!
lol get a fire stick and steam it till the cops knock on your door
Wher's Jill St John (Molly)
Forget Adam West and Burt Ward. They made a parody of Batman. The 2 original serials were Ok but Christian Bale was the best Batman
He told the backstory and showed where Batman Begins, literally.
interesting
Batman was such a cool character . All those years of lying to dopey old Aunt Harriett, then laughing it off . What did it matter ? She was just a senile old bat . Right ?!
The Dark side of people......................
Dr. Spock ??? 😂 15:03
For some reason, women don’t seem to respond too well to “Holy femininity!”……
In lew of it's cult status because of Bruce Lee I think "The Green Hornet" should have been given a second chance and a second season. When compared to the garbage 🗑 🙄 they show today !!!
Es Batman 1940
"The perv...ect crime"!
