My grandpa was Johnny's best friend and Farm aid since Johnny had it in 1971. He told us so may great stories of him and Johnny. Johnny once said when asked in an interview "If you could trade your life with anyone who would it be?" He replied with "Luther Fleaner". God I miss him.

I was so blessed to get to see June Carter and Johnny Cash in concert in Oakdale Ca in 1996. My mom and dad were huge fans. I took my cell phone with me and called my mom, who was terminally ill with cancer , held up the phone, let her listen and told her "I came to the concert FOR you since you aren't feeling up to it. " Then I just let her listen. She was so thrilled.

I love hearing stories about Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and even Carl Perkins. Jerry Lee Lewis is ok, I enjoy hearing about him too. Hey Spa Guy, I didn't know you could play and sing, you ought to make a video singing your favorites, it would be an honor to hear you sing.

That building and the land around it was owned by Red Wortham, who opened one of the first studios in Nashville and founded Sur-Speed Records there. When he got older and tired of the rat race, he moved to Bon Aqua and turned the old railroad station into a recording studio. He even bought some record pressing machines to make his own records. Age and ill health forced him into closing the studio, and some years later Lester Purdy and I took a crack at running it. We ran it for probably a year and a half as a sort of sideline to our band, but there was never much business way out there in the sticks. Mostly it was local church groups and a few Country singers and songwriters. Where you sat to play the piano was where the recording console was, behind a wall with a glass window. On the stage was the vocal booth, and a drum booth stood along the right hand wall as you looked from the control room. After Red died, his son let the place go and the old "Bon Aqua Sound" studio fell into disrepair. I always hoped that somebody would do something with the place, and I'm very happy to see that somebody finally did. I hope the new owners do well there. Bon Aqua has a lot of history besides the studio and Johnny Cash, and it would be good if more people knew about it.

Great video... I live 5 minutes from this place, and have for most of my life. I can confirm that this building was rescued from the dead, basically. I was always fascinated by it because I knew there was history with Johnny Cash. It was falling down, quite literally, and these folks did a great job rescuing it. I remember when they uncovered the old Coca Cola signage on the side, and I don't think anyone knew it was there. This place is a great gem out in the middle of the country, for sure. Here's a piece of trivia... anyone remember the signs either on or around this building (can't remember) that used to say "Bon Aqua Sound"?

My wife plays piano...I bought her an 1895 era Baldwin upright that actually stays in tune most of the time. It has a beautiful cherry wood finish......Blah blah blah, anyway, you have a very personable personality and you remind me a lot of my kin from eastern Ky in your manner of speaking. I have a feeling that you could do something special with your talent and motivation, maybe start some kind of museum or something along those lines. I sing " Run on" all the time. I do " working on the building" and most of the songs. My dad was The Kentucky Plow Boy" in the Opry. I have some practice videos on here not very good because I don't know the songs, but practicing them anyway at this unfriendly club . I can't find a place to play anymore. It's so sad that I can't sing anymore. My heart is gone. I felt so bad for June and Johnny. We were the Gentry Family at the same time as the Carters but we had a larger family if you can believe that. All so poor but had a huge farm full of food, cows, pigs etc...never starved but wore hand me downs. I have a 91 Eldorado and it dies because we have a limit of 25 MPH and I'm not sure if it's reliable out on the road. Still has under 100,000 miles on it, just can't afford to fix it. I have no family here and my older siblings in Nashville just died. I'm totally lost. No music here, nothing. My newly acquired karaoke setup is in my apartment and I'm afraid to disturb anyone. I sing Karen Carpenter because everyone said I have her voice. Guess I do, but I also sing Elvis PDG...lol. Thank all of you for doing this for the Cash/Carter family!

CAN ANYONE NAME MY COUSIN ?
MY COUSIN, used to rock Johnny's daughter as a baby, and later on stage they rocked together with others
like his friends the Beatles. The Beatles used to drive across town for one of his 45's. My cousin lived across
the river from Johnny Cash, they knew each other very well, even at sun records. Elvis had just left, and the
one time they were together, the crowd called for him instead of Elvis, so they had to stay apart for business
reasons. All the originals had to make their own way.Much later my cousin actually took up Johnny's offer
and joined his band.and they made a pact together that lasted. It changed their lives. My cousin 's name is
known by ALL those in the Rock N Roll hall of fame. Heck, music is in our family line and I myself was on
stage and TV as a kid, and played drums for 12 years. MY COUSIN replaced his brothers, with his sons.

@@weeklyspaguy Yea for you... and any that have known the musicians. I found out that some of the family bloodline of talent came my way too. Played the drums for 12 years, was on TV and stage etc... My life took a very different turn. Being family, and friends of family, I have some very good news to all, and just need to contact people like Roseanne. C and the grandson, She knew Carl all her life.
