I remember hearing that the visual design choice of giving him an unnaturally large mouth and cracked lips with rotting teeth was based on the idea that even repeating Sauron's words had rotted his mouth simply because they were so evil. Love this depiction
😁 That plastered on, leering smile, immediately followed by a Duke Nukem upper lip sneer and an insult. "Is there any of this rout with authority to treat with me?" Or "Any you assholes wanna negotiate?" Gandalf: 🤨 "Uhhh, with Ultimate Evil? No, thanks."
I like when Gandalf calls him "Faithless and accursed" he just smiles like he's been complemented, like, "OMG THAT'S MEEE, faithless and accursed! (灬º‿º灬)♡"
This is one of my favorite scenes in the entire trilogy because its the first time we see Mordor as it’s own culture and society and not just a region of mindless creatures. There’s sarcasm, intelligence, and lore building here all packed into 3 minutes.
If there's a society at all in Mordor, it would be composed by Black Numenoreans, the most disciplined orc captains, maybe easterling worshippers and the slaves at Nurnen.
Love how Gandalf, despite being emotionally distraught, immediately catches Merry and Pippin's sympathy towards Frodo could absolutely screw everyone over right now. If Frodo is in fact not dead, and Sauron doesn't know his purpose, which is the case, then the Mouth is here to gain information about him, and it almost works. Imagine if they mentioned the Ring, Frodo's quest would be fucked.
I haven’t seen these movies since they came out (guess I’ve been waiting for the right time to binge all of them now that I’m in my 30’s and will undoubtedly have a much deeper understanding and interest than when I was 12 lol) but one thing I already know I’m gonna get annoyed with is how much I wanna slap the shit outta merry and pippin lmao
Fun fact! The reason his mouth is all jacked up like that is due to his position as Sauron's lieutenant, he was taught both the dark arts and the black speech. The words that leave his mouth are so profane and vile, they literally rot and destroy the mouth that utter them if spoken enough.
This character was perfectly portayed. Unsettling and horrifying. And purely evil and sadistic when he describes the pain of the fake death of Frodo. Shivers
@@zuzuspetals9180 its gonna be long, sry "So you have yet another of these imps with you!" he cried "What use you find in them i cannot guess; but to send them as spies into Mordor is beyond even your accustomed folly. Still, I thank him, for it is plain that this brat at least has seen these tokens before, and it would be vain for you to deny them now!" .................................... "Dwarf-coat, elf-cloak, blade of the downfallen west, and spy from the little rat-land of the shire -- nay, do not start! We know it well - here are the marks of a conspiracy. Now, maybe he that bore these things was a creature you would not grieve to lose, and maybe otherwise: one dear to you perhaps? If so, take swift counsel with what little wit is left to you. For Sauron does not love spies, and what his fate shall be depends now on your choice." ................................ "Good, good!" he said "He was dear to you, I see. Or else his errand was one that you did not wish to fail? It has. And now he shall endure the slow torment of years, as long and slow as our arts in the Great Tower can contrive, and never be released, unless maybe when he is changed and broken, so that he may come to you, and you shall see what you have done. This shall surely be - unless you accept my Lord's terms." Those were the passages I think they were talking about (Return of the King (Book V, chapter 10))
Never realized this before, but whenever the Mouth speaks, you can just barely hear Sauron whispering in the Black Speech, right before the Mouth speaks. So in a sense, he's acting like a literal translator for Sauron. Nice!!
Just shows how twisted and evil he is. The mouth of Sauron is a black numenorian. One of the descendants of the fallen kingdom and Sauron corrupted him and made him a puppet
Poor guy. It was probably his last day before retirement. He would have been given the full Mordor dental plan as a bonus as well but oh no Aragorn had to go kill him for no reason.
I love Legolas's expression in this scene. Orlando Bloom was so good at conveying the complete and total disgust an elf would feel in the presence of someone who not only serves Sauron, but does so willingly and with great joy.
Let's not forget that, as a black numenorian, he was one or descended from one of those that destroyed the ancient friendship with the elves, worshipped Morgoth and caused the fall of one of the Elves greatest ally for prejudices and ungratefulness.
True, tho for me it was the teeth. If that guy were to suffer greatly at the hands of a dentist, i'm willing to bet Legolas would despise him only slightly less.
I love how much charisma they gave this guy. He’s around for all of 2 minutes but he is so incredibly memorable, and not just because of his design. Wish he could’ve played a bigger part
I find him interesting because its really like the only time you get to see a Black Numenorean in the Jackson films, probably why Aragon took more offense to him than the rest and decided to kill him, because his people were responsible for the sinking of Numenor.
As detailed in other Tolkein writing, Gandalf plays this to perfection. He certainly fears for Frodo, yet carefully controls his reactions, desperately trying to control his friends' reactions so as to not give away anything to the Mouth: he wants to know if Sauron has the ring....... he allows the Mouth to gloat about Frodo, analysing what he hears. But he ends up knowing, after the exchange, that Sauron does not in fact have the ring, he knows that the Mouth and Sauron did not know Frodo was carrying it; and so he hopes in the possibility that somehow Frodo is alive and even more that the ring yet safe. He knows that the Mouth would have gloated over that had it been - the Mouth only gloats over torture and death of Frodo (which is not even true itself). The Mouth thinks the victory is simply emotional to have hurt a friend: the Mouth does not even know abut the ring! Gandalf is very smart with this scene.
Exactly. The Mouth gloating about the torture of death of Frodo ended up revealing that Sauron didn't know Frodos purpose, and that he doesn't know Frodo has the Ring still.
See, I always took it that the Mouth did get to Gandalf a bit. After the "He did, Gandalf, he did" line, as Aragorn rides up, you can see Gandalf hunched over. He looks broken.
Also, no mention of Sam. In my opinion, for Gandalf, the logical conclusion here would be that Frodo might indeed be dead, but Sam is probably alive and has the Ring.
I just love how they made this guy look absolutely revolting and yet so charismatic at the same time. His teeth are disgusting and yet you can’t help but watch him speak when the camera focuses on him.
I would love to see him at a real UN summit. Shhhhhhh aha! Who would have thought deregulating carbon dioxide emissions could cause so much paàaaain. It deeeed Mr. Chairman. It deeeeed.
Didn't know the servants of the dark lord were so sassy 😂 I love it, that fake smile he flashes when he first walks up always cracks me up. Like Sauron said go out there and just mess with em a little
He is a representation of Sauron’s mouth so his directly regurgitating his words directly - he has no identity or individuality as such (lost as he gave himself to Sauron)
If you watch the extended version of the fellowship of the ring, when Gandalf recites the poem of the ring in black speech, Sauron matches with him. But when he’s done he lets out this bellowing laugh. Sauron’s sadistic and he takes pleasure in trying to tear people apart
I love how both sides are bluffing. The Mouth is bluffing that they caught a hobbit; Gandalf and co are bluffing about what he was doing there. Sauron only ever supposed that the hobbit(s) would have been spies. Nearly ruined by Pippin, as ever.
Sauron actually heard the news from Nazguls that hobbits had the ring. He didn't really know where they live or how they look but later he did know they were halflings and came close to Shire or something like that.
In the book this scene is longer and the Mouth is actually sent to offer a truce in exchange for peace. Sauron demands that the men and elves of the West must remove all troops from his borders and return to their smaller realms (Minas Tirith, the Meduseld, and Mirkwood) while giving Sauron command of the greater lands in exchange they get to keep their small fiefdoms but must pay tribute to him. Gandalf finds the demand overreaching and senses desperation. When the Mouth presents them with Frodo's Mithril shirt it catches them off guard, but Gandalf keeps his cool and demands to see that Frodo is indeed their prisoner. To this the Mouth winces at this request and then Gandalf in turn rejects Sauron's terms for a truce.
I think that's true. Though another reasons I think he kept the faith is that he likely would have expected a servant of Sauron to gloat over regaining the ring, and the mouth of Sauron made no mention of Samwise. If Sauron had the ring, he'd have no reason to hide it as he'd be all-powerful once more. He'd use it to intimidate in this instance. Aragorn felt something was off about that. I feel as though the corruption the mouth spoke would have worked if not for that Numaneorian wisdom/foresight or something; thought as like you said, being a true friend probably made the fire burn stonger.
I'd also add Aragon had experience on his side: already once he had believed Merry and Pippin lost forever, only to then find them alive and well. He would not be so easily fooled again.@@maidhcdemoinbhiol6017
@@maidhcdemoinbhiol6017seven months later and just wanted to say that this was a good comment 👍. I think it is striking that it is Aragorn and not Gandalf who acts and denies the corruption outright. “Who knew one so small could endure so much pain. And he did Gandalf.. He did.” Thats one hell of and emotional power play. I’ve would’ve been wrecked if I was in that position.
The actors did a formidable job right here.. The emotions were so real, you could see the pain on their faces.. Probably why he was Saurons negotiator, to throw them off
@@evelyne4034 I will be honest, I think the acting in LOTR altogether is quite flat. But it is a huge trilogy and they had many scenes to interpret, so they didn't have so much time or resources to make each scene worthy of an oscar. But yes, I wish they included this scene in the original. It would scare some of the younger people for sure. LOTR is a child's story after all. Probably why they left it out.
@@123TauruZ321 I guess, they tend to cut out more important scenes in the Hobbit, e.g why Thranduil was so keen on getting those white jewels from the dwarves, this scene isn't really important, but I also think they cut it because of Aragorn beheading a messenger, which in war isn't something you do as a king.
I love that little gasp he does at 1:58, like he's just remembered some minor piece of interesting trivia and isn't about to attempt to crush their spirits by lying about Frodo's death
In all seriousness though, this scene is so powerful, even when presented with seemingly clear evidence of their doom and the failure of their quest to save all that is good in their world, Aragorn still refuses to give up or lose faith.
I mean, while it is an I'll omen, if all had truly been lost I doubt it would just be the mouth gloating that one hobbit was dead. 1: theres 2 hobbits. No mention of Sam 2: if they had the ring, they'd be gloating WAY harder
This is definitely definitely a for better or worse scene, because it both has pros and cons Pros: - Mouth of Sauron - both sides bluffing while not fully knowing - good music Cons - Aragorn goes out of character by killing the Mouth of Sauron
Homies grill looks like 50 sticks of butter, and he has the social skills of a door-to-door missionary. Clearly he obtained this position because of that absolutely smashing hat.
I always loved how the Weta design team intentionally went for the "half warrior/half priest" aesthetic. It's so unique and memorable. Goddamn I love this trilogy.
Everyone comments on his teeth. I'm more freaked out by how the skin of his mouth looks like it's splitting open to reveal the raw muscle underneath every time he speaks.
Lots of lore knowledgeable people here. The language of Mordor is so cursed it does in fact disfigure the one who speaks it and corrupt the space around them. One of the reasons Gandalf does not speak the words on the One Ring at Bag End in Frodo's house.
In the Books however Aragorn doesn't cut off his head he's allowed to leave, that bit was completely out of character for Aragron plus he wouldn't kill an unarmed opponent.
@@SagaciousNihilist perhaps that's why the scene was cut. but i can defend aragorn doing it in the movie he knew Souron's Mouth was lying and that he was trying demoralize the heroes. so it's better to just shut him up here and there. and there would be no time to regret coming
@@yosefyonin6824 Or it was cut because it was goofy as hell with the guys mannerisms, therefore unfitting, and quite frankly made no sense as it shows that Sauron was aware of a halfling spy in Mordor, yet did nothing to protect the entrance of the vulcano.
My jaw dropped when I saw the extended edition for the first time. Hes the closest thing to Sauron that we get to see because he has more of a personality than the witch king. You can almost get a hint to Saurons personality by watching the Mouth. The Mouth is a real bastard. Antagonistic, sarcastic, and cruel, but undoubtedly intelligent. His accent is also very interesting.
@@Doommaster677 agreed, probably why they didn't end up putting him in. Or they didn't think that they could give his appearance enough weight, which the cut scene definitely did not
”I guess that concludes negotiations” And that’s how you do comedic relief. Subtle, not enough to make you laugh, but enough to lighten the mood in a rather dark scene. Best movie trilogy ever.
At 1:34, you can hear faint whispers on the air, after which the Mouth immediately speaks. It continues in the background throughout much of the scene. I never noticed it before, but I'm guessing it's supposed to be Sauron communicating with his servant and telling him what to say.
The first time I saw this I didn't know what he meant by "treat with me", so I liked to imagine that he meant he was looking for someone to share some treats with. Like, they would bring out a table and chairs, and enjoy some cake and cookies together.
I love hearing about stuff like this. (I assume you were a kid. Not that it matters, only in the fact that I absolutely love discovering things when I become an adult that went over my head as a kid. Or even misheard. A great example is the blues brothers. But it wasn't until I saw the movie as an adult, about 30 yrs old, when I finally got what was meant by "One prophylactic. unopened. And then "one soiled". For a long time I just assumed whatever it was got some dirt on it and they never washed it off)
I assume it comes from the word "treaty". Sauron sent a messenger to listen to the demands Men were giving. Gandalf, instead, says they aren't here for negotiations, but rather unconditional surrender - they must leave the occupied lands, go back to Mordor and disband, or they will all be destroyed.
it really is beautiful in its own kind of way. Some people are just scared of different. But this guy was clearly his own man, and he wasn't ashamed to show that smile to the world. Truly inspiring
A stupid scene that wasn't in the book. As he mention in the book when he is afraid of Aragorn, He is a emissary and ambassador for Sauron, and hence must not be touched, which Aragorn accept and he is allowed to return to Mordor.
Fuck him. The Mouth of Sauron was an asshole and he wasn’t out there for any real negotiations. He was abusing his power as an emissary to taunt, insult, and demoralize our protagonists.
Such a treacherous villain. Really gets into their heads. Gandalf had already felt guilty for sending Frodo and Sam to almost certain death and Sauron and then this villain really capitalize on that guilt. One of the only scenes I can remember where Gandalf seems defeated and is tearing up. “How such a small creature can endure so much pain. And he did Gandalf, he did…” And then Aragorn steps up to fulfill the leadership role Gandalf had held “I do not believe it. I can not!” It’s a compelling scene.
Some fun facts about the Mouth of Sauron; the decision to make him look like this was made for the movie. In the books, he's just a mook in a full faced helmet but they changed it to imply that Sauron is so evil that merely speaking his will distorts the speaker's appearance. His mouth was supposed to appear sideways instead of cracked at first but that was scrapped when Jackson decided it would look a little bit too silly. His mouth was made digitally larger to give him a very uncanny valley appearance and it was even planned to have his helmet hooked into his mouth so he was always smiling unsettling. It was scrapped whilst in the early design stages because it made it impossible for Bruce Spence to actually move his mouth but Jackson liked the whole "high collar behind the cowl" look so that stayed.
This is my favorite deleted scene and the one I wish made it in the movie. “For Frodo” hits so much harder when you’ve seen this. As much as Aragorn says he doesn’t believe it, there is a chance Frodo is dead and there is no hope that they will win. But, if they should die, they will fight until the very end in his honor. Aragon rallying the Fellowship in Frodo’s name is so beautiful.
I think he does know frodo hasn't been captured because then sauron would have the ring and there would be no reason to send out the mouth to negotiate at all. He knows it's a bluff.
If Sauron had captured Frodo he would either have taken the Ring and he would have covered Middle Earth with a Second Darkness and destroyed Gondor and driven the Survivor's beyond the Great River, or Sam would have taken the Ring from Frodo before he was Captured and Frodo would have been tortured and the Orcs would be searching Mordor for Sam and the Ring because Gollum had told his torturers that he had possessed the Ring and who had it and where it was, so Sauron would know everything about the plan to destroy the Ring and that was why Frodo was in Mordor...
after watching this many times i kinda felt bad, he was chill and if we got him a dentist, a toothbrush, and some mouth wash he'd probably a be a standup guy with a stunning smile
The makeup team did an amazing job with this character. Not just with the teeth, but the splitting skin as well. It’s so disgusting but I love it so much
I like how the Mouth of Sauron inadvertently gives away waaaaaaay too much information that allows Aragorn to discern that the plan hasn't failed. 1) He never mentions Sam at all. Just that they caught a halfling with a mithril vest on. The Mouth exclusively only talks about the one hobbit they caught. 2) No mention of the Ring. If the enemy had the Ring, they would've revealed that immediately. So for not saying anything about Sam and the Ring, Aragorn is able to figure out that Sam at the very least is still alive, and most likely has the Ring. So the plan can still succeed as long as they hold the line. This is also why Gandalf stops Merry and Pippin from talking.
Yeah, but Aragorn already assumed that the plan could still work, or he wouldn't have come, so that remains unchanged. Literally all the new information does is demoralize them. Sure the plan can still succeed, but they still believe that Frodo was tortured and killed.
no lol, that is not at all what aragorn was thinking. he intentionally says "I do not believe it! I WILL not..." The "will" being the point of the matter, ie: hope, faith. The thing that separates the evil from the good (in traditional neoplatonic-christian morality)
Firstly, they only know about the one hobbit. They never knew about Sam. Secondly, Sauron thought Pippin was the one who had the ring, hence why Gandalf brought him to the White City to begin with. They had no idea there were two hobbits, and they had no idea the one they caught had the ring. The Mouth acted on all the information that was provided.
I can't help but admire how the scarred skin around the mouth opens and closes based on his mouth movement. This guy has such a disgustingly beautiful design!
I love the look of the Mouth of Sauron here, but the scene is so much more epic in the book. Instead of the Dark Lieutenant lying about Frodo being dead, he tries to use Frodo's life as a bargaining chip to get Gandalf to accept Sauron's harsh terms of Gondor's surrender, which would have included the Dark Lieutenant replacing Saruman at a newly rebuild Isengard. Also, instead of murdering the ambassador (he would never do that), Aragorn and the Dark Lieutenant lock eyes for a moment, and that scares the Lieutenant so much he screams out that he is not to be murdered as he is the negotiator.
I agree that it's out of character for him to kill him, but the Dark Lieutenant cowering and riding away doesn't really fit with the open scenery. I can't imagine watching a small figure riding through the open landscape and adding to an epic scene
the whole film is a gross misrepresentation of the books, and loses the kernal of the themes in exchange for pandering to retarded concepts popular in America and Antipodean 'culture'. You'd be quite unaware of what the books are actually about if you'd only settled for the films. But then many folks prefer a Mcdonalds to nutritious food garnred from a well run landscape, because it so much easier and accessible and they are all the worse for it.
The look he gives Gandal after calling him “Old Grey Beard” and the little gasp of excitement before pulling out the mythril is everything to me. MOS was just a large baby lmao
He has about a minute of screen time but he's one of my favorite characters. Not a favorite in the usual sense that you root for them, etc, but in the sense that it's a really interesting character. His mouth is done perfectly. His teeth almost look metallic from the constant oozing of blood and bile. The way he cannot help but bathe in their misery is great. Like, every little hint of anguish causes a mini-orgasm within him lol It's great. I kinda wish he was in the theatrical version and had a bit more time on screen.
Exactly this is the very thaughts of melkor the first dark lord impregnated into the Third age of middle earth as in the beginning the song was good and harmony transcended but melkor thaught different (evil) and opposite of beauty which is something like this or an orc i guess
In the book, Tolkien goes away from the Frodo-Sam-Gollum storyline and doesn't come back to it for a couple of hundred pages until right after this scene. So if you were reading the book, you really wouldn't know at this point whether Frodo was alive or dead and a lot of the tension in this scene depends on that. And Tolkien does this a LOT in the trilogy. When he jumps from one story line to the next, you may have to go back a few days or even a few weeks to pick up where the story left off. Peter Jackson explained in the commentary that when they wrote the movie's screenplay, they had to re-organize all the timelines into chronological order. So now, when the Mouth of Sauron taunts them, we (the audience) know that Frodo is fine, because we just saw him escape from Shelob's lair about 10 minutes ago. It's still a cool scene but it was an easy scene to remove in editing because there's no danger to Frodo here.
It's more of a repurposing of the focus of the scene. The characters stand in place of the reader. The curiosity or dread that we felt is now transposed onto Gandalf, Aragorn, and crew. All in all I'm glad they filmed this scene.
As a fan of both the books and the movies, I am glad they kept this scene in the movie and it doesn’t matter that it doesn’t hold the same weight as it did in the book. For me the most powerful part of this scene is that they have every reason to loose hope and as far as they know there is none. Frodo is probably dead, Sauron will soon have the ring (if he doesn’t already) anything they do going forward is fraught. Despite all of this they choose to fight anyway. It hits me every time I watch it.
Despite the audience of the movies being fully aware that Frodo is still alive, this scene still manages to stir engaging frustration within the viewers when they see the antagonist create a misunderstanding to catch the rest of the fellowship off guard. Shows how despicable and manipulative Pure-Evil can be.
Never understood why this wasn't included in the theatrical version. Without it there is a great deal of context that is not present for this final battle.
In the books, the scene with Shelob and Frodo being "killed" took place at the very end of Two Towers. They do not go back to Frodo or Sam until the end of Return of the King, so in books this scene is meant to make you think that Frodo is actually dead and it's a fakeout. Obliviously this doesn't work in the film because the Shelob scene happens parallel to the Battle of Minas Tirith and they constantly go back to focusing on Frodo and Sam throughout the film so you immediately know they aren't dead while in the books, Two Towers ends with Sam taking the ring and you don't find out that Frodo is actually alive until after this scene!
Because the way they set up the scenes in the film, you already know Frodo is alive! So it makes it kind of unneeded. I like the scene but still, since they abridged it like how they did, it doesn't really make since in the context of the films to have it!
Well the scene also serves the purpose of charging that final battle with emotion. The messenger bluffs, and the remaining fellowship thinks their last hope has failed. It makes them all prepared to take one final stand and die. That's how the line, "for Frodo" makes any sense. It's also why it's so awesome to see the tower fall and the tears in Gandalf's eyes. There is a moment where they didn't think they'd live to see this evil vanquished...all because of the Mouth.
“I do not believe it… I will not…” chills. Every. Single. Time. Even though the fellowship had every reason to believe that Frodo was dead they did not give up hope. Ugh these movies man!!! Nothing tops them.
Aragorn was smart to not believe it too. After all, if Sauron really had captured Frodo and retook the ring, he would not bother wasting time with this "negotiation". He also wouldn't have sent the Mouth of Sauron. He would have come out himself, with the ring, and killed Aragorn where he stood. So the fact that Sauron was still acting cautious in this situation was a pretty good indicator that he didn't have the ring yet and I think Aragorn picked up on that.
Imagine the immense guilt that Gandalf felt in that moment. Even though Frodo isn't really dead the fact that Gandalf thought that he was knowing that he's the reason Frodo went on that perilous journey in the first place.
Fun fact: In the books, the Mouth of Sauron survived this encounter after being intimidated into retreat by Gandalf and Aragorn, who forced him to surrender Frodo's mithril shirt instead of him tossing it over to them. He also gave the terms of surrender for the armies of the west, they included the men of Rohan rebuilding Isengard, which he hoped to claim for himself as Sauron's new right hand man after Saruman's fall from grace. His ultimate fate in the books remains unknown but it's hinted at that he was among the more "noble" of Sauron's allies who faced the free peoples in some last-ditch effort battles after the destruction of the Ring, eventually perishing.

The writing on his helmet translates to Lammen Gorthaur". It appears to be a translation which means "Voice of the Abhorred Dead". Which pretty literally means Mouth of Sauron. During the Second Age Sauron was called "Gorthaur". Another thing to add, the Mouth of Sauron had a defiled mouth due to him being a servant of Sauron and all the evil that would stem from his mouth. It corrupted his body. Kind of like how the One Ring corrupted Smeagol into Gollum

@@mister_silent6 Aragorn is a descendant of Númenor, hence his long life span compared to the men of the west. The Mouth of Sauron was also Númenórean, except he was a black Númenórean. Sauron (then called Mairon) was captured by men on the island of Númenor, but Sauron was so charming and charismatic and intelligent that he went from being a captor to giving the king council and in result was freed, (hence his name Sauron the Deceiver) he went on to corrupt the people that dwelled there into worshiping Morgoth (Saurons master) convincing them to sail to the Undying Lands (Heaven) which made Eru Iluvatar (God) sink the whole island but the people who didn't follow Sauron or join his Morgoth worshiping cult were spared and took refuge in Gondor. The Mouth of Sauron would of been one of the people who tried to sail to the Undying Lands but some how survived. Thus making him an ancestor of Aragorn. Hope this helped.
I love this scene because it's when we get a glimpse into how cruel Sauron really is. It's like he just wants to break their spirits more than he wants to gain any strategic advantage in this fight.
Sauron's greatest strength was knowing the weaknesses of his enemies, and using it against them. He was also manipulative and crafty to no end, and extremely sadistic.

If there's a society at all in Mordor, it would be composed by Black Numenoreans, the most disciplined orc captains, maybe easterling worshippers and the slaves at Nurnen.

Nearly ruined by Pippin, as ever.
They didn’t bluff, they did capture Frodo, at least in the book. But only for a while,
Sauron actually heard the news from Nazguls that hobbits had the ring. He didn't really know where they live or how they look but later he did know they were halflings and came close to Shire or something like that.
firefrostcat62 Yeah, till all the orcs ousted themselves, and over some stupid ass shit too.. as usual; never trust an orc!
@Qimodis to Sauron to take the fight and give Frodo a chance I suppose
So much respect for Aragorn's undeniable faith in Frodo. A true friend.

It's pretty damn great.....
It's actually in the extended edition of the film.
I am pretty sure they would drag Frodo's body to break their morale if they had killed him.
after watching this many times i kinda felt bad, he was chill and if we got him a dentist, a toothbrush, and some mouth wash he'd probably a be a standup guy with a stunning smile

This here people, this changes everything and I never would’ve known or heard that if I didn’t pay attention, appreciate this
Omg I can hear it thats cool and great attention to detail
Thanks for this insight
Is that why he jerks and tilts his head so awkwardly?
I must need headphones, giving myself an aneurism with my phone to my ear tryna hear it
The makeup team did an amazing job with this character.
I also think aragorn killed the mouth of sauron cuz he was a black Númenórean and these people who are related to aragorn's people
Yeah, but Aragorn already assumed that the plan could still work, or he wouldn't have come, so that remains unchanged.
I agree. If Sauron had them then he would already have the ring and it would have already been game over.
I can't help but admire how the scarred skin around the mouth opens and closes based on his mouth movement.
This guy has such a disgustingly beautiful design!
They left the original makeup but increased the size 200% in special effects. Really genius idea
Cool!! Good eye
A GREAT EYE etched in Flame 🔥....ok I’m done 😔

Like, every little hint of anguish causes a mini-orgasm within him lol
It's great. I kinda wish he was in the theatrical version and had a bit more time on screen.

Book is way better
Cool
Gandalf: "FAITHLESS AND ACCURSED!"
Mouth of Sauron: "Oh you flatterer~ 😁"
Never understood why this wasn't included in the theatrical version. Without it there is a great deal of context that is not present for this final battle.
What is it that's so important about this scene that it can't be cut off if i may know ?
he is the one who give them the mithrill shirt as so colled proof of frodo and sam's death making the others make their (for frodo ) charge
Except that he only mentioned Frodo and not Sam and nothing about the ring
yep, feel the exact same way
testament to Aragorn’s willpower that Gandalf’s entire job was inspiring hope and even he lost it for a second there
Aragorn was smart to not believe it too.
What 🙄
The way The Mouth of Sauron delivers his lines is perfect.
The guy who played him was also the gyro captain in The Road Warrior aka Mad Max 2
Hmmmmm I always thought it was Jacinda Ardern who had played the role.
Lol it’s terrible and probably why it was not in the cinematic release
Imagine the immense guilt that Gandalf felt in that moment. Even though Frodo isn't really dead the fact that Gandalf thought that he was knowing that he's the reason Frodo went on that perilous journey in the first place.

“Ahaaaaaa”
Hes like wtf am I seeing
He’s like an ancient heretical Numenorian king in the books it’s kind of cool.

@@jamesblyth4966 Ancestor? I haven't done much research but can you explain why the Mouth is an ancestor?

I think Psychological Warfare is Sauron's best Strategy.
Breaking the enemy's morale is actually a huge strategic advantage.
In the books this meeting was a lot more civilized.
Breaking the spirit of your enemy IS the holy grail of winning battles/wars.
Sauron's greatest strength was knowing the weaknesses of his enemies, and using it against them. He was also manipulative and crafty to no end, and extremely sadistic.
