The sheer consistency with which Threshold have operated since their inception has ensured a loving fanbase. Their singalong prog isn't without impressive technicalities, augmented by Damian Wilson's distinctive vocals.
This is so 200% Threshold. They really have a distinct style. I love the song's power and of course the proggy parts. Can't wait for the album.

I am afraid Threshold are beginning to repeat their riffs and bits from the past, like it happens to many metal bands. But the song sounds darker and I believe the album will bring some new colors. Gonna be good as always.
Yeah, that's what I thought, too... this song instantly gives me the "oh well, heard it all before" feeling. It's good, but it's been done better with 'Mission Profile' and others.
***** Mission Profile is total masterpiece, right. Threshold always held on a lot to their style and tried to make their albums very coherent, but still with exceptional songwriting. However now the similarities are getting obvious. Compare 4:55 to 3:35 from Ashes (radio edit) - that is serious.
As much as I like the song, I totally get what you mean; it's reminding me a lot of the stuff off of Dead Reckoning (The riff at 3:38 here, I swear is the exact same to 3:16 of Fighting for Breath (on DR), but played in 8/4 instead of 10/4). Even the vocal effects for the second verse here at 1:28 is the same one used in Fighting for Breath (at 0:54).
But, it's still a good song. A little *too* familiar-sounding perhaps, but good nonetheless.
The chorus reminds me of "The Art Of Reason". Totally fucking love this band and worshipped the last record, but I get what you mean. ;)

Wow. The last time I heard Threshold was when I bought Wounded Land about 20 years ago. Have just been listening to For The Journey online, it is truly superb. Ordering now!

What would fans say are their 3 best albums? I like the heaviest catchy crunchy riffs with great instrumental passages and gorgeous melodies. I also like a little jazz in there as well. Sometimes I wish there was more music than singing. I have their Dead Reckoning album which could be their best but what other two albums do you think I would really like?

That effect on 3:42 to 4:14 during the solo... I've seen it before with Black Star Riders - Kingdom of the lost lyric's video. Guess it is the same program, still pretty damn cool.

stormshear1 yes both amazing bands though i think dream theater and threshold are on equal grounds. both has amazing riffs that are done so beautifully.

The vocals and drums don't really match the guitar. The guitar tone sounds very death metal-ish, while the vocals and drums sound like something out of a 1-hit wonder 80's glam rock band.
That´s why there are different bands... so they do not sound all the same.
I was hoping by now they'd have replaced that terrible vocalist. Looks like Russell Allen, sounds like a terrible teenager singing at less than speaking volume.

It's actually one of Johanne James' better drum tones. Very pristine clarity on the snare and kick.
Wish you guys would stop the lyric videos with shakeycam effects. It is so, so fucking obnoxious and it is a particular highlight when the lyrics of a track aren't that good.
