Lovely that you back reacting to Nightwish. I’ve said it many time. That last minute with Floor belting out those F-notes is like a runaway steam train 🚂
Marko Hietala is his name, the bass player, and aside having been a member of Nightwish (currently not with the band), he's an accomplished singer in his own right.
No longer Floor's most challenging song - Shoemaker takes that place now, but for different reasons. Ever Dream is sustained high register, getting ever higher Shoemaker has awkward unusual intervals and doesn't scan simply so took a lot of practice
Thank you for quoting me... Great reaction... More stripped out? Maybe How's the heart acoustic version on Planet Rock... You'll have big vocal acrobatics from Floor...
Marko Hietala is the bassist singing on this tune. He is phenomenal. Romanticide would be the tune to listen to next from this concert. It's more of them together. Ghost River would also work well. For Marko, We have him singing lead on The Islander at Tampere and Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red at Wembley. He is one of the few folks around who has had Floor be his backup singer. And yes, none of the songs at Wacken were written for Floor's voice, but she pulled them off perfectly. She had only been with the band for like 8-9 months. But I guess you can do that when you're a Valkyrie.

Hi Juliet, greetings from UK 😊 I just love your reactions, and yes please let the fan stay! You look just as good with your hair blowing as Floor does 😉
For a Nightwish song, "Ever Dream" is pretty simple and straightforward. I always take a great pleasure to ear it ! I like the orginal version with Tarja '(album "Century Child") but Floor brings so much energy ! I almost lose my hair lol The male singer is Marko Hietala . And we don't forget our little great guitarist, Emppu Vuorinen 😁 He is a discreet person who we tend to easily forget.
Yes, those F's are challenging, even for the Goddess. She would not normally belt this high in the songs she wrote herself (normally staying at around D-E, with occasional stabs up to F#5 for extra impact), and she doesn't belt like this since abt 2015, using a very heady mixed voice instead. Wise decision, I would say, as this song was meant to be sung entirely in the head voice to begin with. She has exceptional control of her passaggio and can mix and switch between vocal registers with ease. Extremely talented woman.
Try nightwish Scaretale with Annette Olzen live show the second singer, awesome request 😊 there is also a version with Floor Jansen in Helsinki Festival in 2012.
Another great reaction! There is a softer more pulled back version of this song from Floor's solo concert in Amsterdam in 2021. ruclips.net/video/fKGbCEjyBKs/видео.html. She opened the concert with it and it is quite beautiful. This was the most difficult song for Floor to sing until their most recent album, Human Nature, came out in 2020. Tuomas (keyboardist and main composer) set out to challenge all three of the band's singers and he definitely did. One of the more difficult but incredibly beautiful songs from that album is Shoemaker. It is a tribute to the planetary scientist Eugene Shoemaker and an ode to human exploration. It has these incredibly difficult vocal lines in the beginning with rapid phrasing and crazy pitch changes and then finishes with an epic operatic chorus that Floor actually worked on in her home studio after they had finished the original recording because she wasn't happy with it. When the album came out Floor said she didn't think they could sing it live but she has performed it in every show on the Human Nature tour that just finished. My favorite performance is the lyric video which has some stunning visuals to go along with the song but the live performance from Hellfest and Deichbrand are also outstanding. Also the acoustic performance of How's the Heart from Planet Rock also shows off some difficult vocals lines in a stripped back performance.
The male singer is Marko Hietala. He was the lead singer in his previous band Tarot and is a member of Finnish male supergroup, Northern Kings, that does metal covers of pop songs (checkout their cover of A-Ha's Take on Me). He also sings lead on a number of Nightwish songs (Endlessness, The Islander, While Your Lips are Still Red, High Hopes) bt his most amazing Nightwish performance is as the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera with their first singer Tarja Turunen. The performance from the End of an Era concert in 2005 is stunning. Marko steals the show with the grittiest and darkest metal Phantom ever. ruclips.net/video/tL25rbnvM4o/видео.html
As I recall, she said it was challenging, because she had to belt those high notes for such an extended period of time. Of course, she can hit those notes in her sleep, but it's doing them over and over for an extended period of time that becomes a bit challenging (though she makes it look easy, of course). That was an older interview where she said that, though. This has probably been replaced by "Shoemaker" as her most challenging song. In fact, they didn't even think they were going to be able to do it live, but it's become something of a fan favorite, bringing some fans to tears (literally - see Deichbrand 2022).
Nice Reaction! If you want to hear Floor sing a whole song in her head voice only check out the song Stargazer from the Concert in Tampere, Finnland in 2015. It was an early Nightwish song and the original singer sang most songs with her Classical voice so Floor did the same. Another amazing performance from Floor!
I concur. It's great to hear Floor's gorgeous classical voice. The title always makes me chuckle though. Because it reminds me of a different song called "Erblicket die Töchter des Firmaments" which basically means the same. Doesn't sound quite the same though, it's more like... a ballad. Trve dat.😊🤘
@@zbygniewprlwytzkofsky6614 Yep, me too. His cover is great. I don't quite like the "trve kvlt" version, too much white noiz (or is it black noiz? Let's find out!)😂
9:25 "I don't know why she would say this is one of the hardest songs". Precisely. There may be some linguistic confusion in play here. Already in her After Forever interviews, I've seen her use the English words "challenge" and "challenging", where in Dutch she would've said "uitdaging". In English, challenging may have the connotation that something is hard to do and also that the person facing the challenge may question his/her abilities to face up to it. In Dutch, this association is way less pronounced. A "uitdaging" is something to be looking fwd to as something exciting, since it's not the ordinary stuff. So your observation is spot on: no challenge here as in "hard to do/doubt abt capabilities" but an exciting song for her, since belting at this level for an extended period while trying to preserve some "body" (not make it sound too yellyscreamy) really is special. She could've gone Tarja-style, which would have been a walk in the park for her. Tuomas orders however boiled down to: "none of the operatic stuff, until I decide otherwise". So this was Floor's answer. Pure belting perfection where going into head voice would've been the easy way out. Has to be said tho, that in time sustaining this belting barrage will have an effect on one's vocal chords, even Floor's. Ppl have therefore noticed that from 2015 and onwards, Floor started to protect her voice especially in the über-belting department. Cheers from Amsterdam!
If memory serves, she never used the C-word about her own songs. Obviously, "Semblance of Confusion", "My Pledge pt.1" or "Dreamflight" posed no challenge to her whatsoever. It's only the songs written by others that are challenging. I don't really know how to interpret it...🤔
@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Yup, "challenge" may mean all sorts of things to different peeps. Challenging Floor can also mean, "take a vocal line, put it in a blender and throw the resulting syllables at a cadence resembling a bunch of potatoes rolling down the stairs, all of this in the full knowledge that you probably get away with it since Floor will somehow make it work and will thank you for a lovely 'sing-along'.." 😇
@@BrendonChase_2015 Trve dat. She did use a somewhat kind-of similar type of hip-hop cadence in one song called "Beneath". She never said it was challenging for her, but.. Looking at her perform it live, and considering she would never come up with something like this again, I suspect that it might have been... :) So I can imagine her excitement when she first saw the sheet (or heard the guide melody, whichever came first) to Schumacher. Wouldn't be surprised if quite a few birdies got flipped good and proper behind the Mastermind's back.😁 👉🤓
@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Here's the official peek behind the scenes (HT: Vallte): Finnish interview from 2020: Tuomas: "We had interesting discussions last summer in Röskö, where we did the pre-production of the album. I remember when *the singers brought up that the fact that the vocal melodies and lyrics of the songs are made by a person who can't really sing at all and that adds a special spice* to Nightwish's sound. I often hear in my head exactly how these melodies go, in which voice they are sung and how the lyrics unfold. Then when I present them to the singers, they tell me that you can't sing that way! There are too many syllables, too many "s" letters and so on. Up to a certain limit, I always try to challenge them to at least try." Haha "adds a special spice". Me thinks that Tuomas may have a hard time reading btwn the lines 😁
@@BrendonChase_2015 What do they mean "you can't sing that way"?! Fi! Who are they to question the MM? Clearly, they have no idea of their own capabilities. These amateurs would never have been able to realise their full potential without the guiding hand of the modern incarnation of Wolfgang Amadeus.🤭
"he can sing too..." Ya, that's an understatement. He was the lead singer of his own band that he created with his brother back in 1982 and they were still together even while he was with Nightwish. So, yes.. Marko the bassist and back-up singer here is an actual bonafide and talented singer. There are are few songs where you get to hear a lot more of him and a few where he takes the lead.
I often say, when others try to compare the 3 singers for NW to determine the best one, while everyone is debating Floor, Annette, and Tarja, I like to say Marco (Marco Hietala, the bass player). He's a fair singer and musician....lol
"Storytime" (as well live at Wacken) is one of my favorites when we come to a melody with a hook! - you should do a reaction to this (and as previously mentioned to shoemaker as well).
Juliet.....I have watched hundreds of Nightwish reactions, if this is not my favorite it is 1A. Your facial expressions, body language, excitement and comments were a joy to watch. I really got the feeling it was a vicarious experience in front of my eyes. I felt you were mentally on that stage fronting the band. Have you ever covered a Nightwish song in your studio ? BTW, it should be a floor fan. LOL Thank you again, look forward to your next reaction. Be well. I think you would enjoy reacting to " Dead Boy's Poem ", a ballad
Sure , the larger and more distant the audience is, the more they will be out of time. There were 82k fans here. An older song, from the 2002 4th album , Century Child, with original lead singer Tarja Turunen. And the 1st record with Marko. His name is Marko Hietala, yes he can sing too. Backing and co-lead on a lot of songs, and lead on a few, including The Islander and the cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. He sang lead in Tarot, his band from before Nightwish. Sure ,keep the fan. lol. The primary reason for Floor's fan is to keep her mascara from running. To hear more of Marko , try Romanticide or Ghost River from here at Wacken with Floor. Or the 2005 Nightwish version(End of an Era DVD) of Phantom of the Opera , with Tarja and Marko on vocals.
Before she starts singing, Floor said to the audience "But for now, lets get start a little softer". That had tricked a few reactors before, because they thought its some type of ballad.
There is a lot of vocal power by Floor, with or without Nightwish, for me one of her best vocal performances is "Seven days to the Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (her voice was in an amazing shape that evening) Floor with her previous band Revamp: "Trial of Monsters" live at Graspop 2010 ( the "free" Floor as she founded the band and wrote the music for her own mood and voice)
I highly suggest you to check out a live 2022/3 version of this song. As Marko left, when they sing it, Floor does both parts and it sounds really unbelievable
Great reaction! My nr 4 top song from Nightwish 😍🔥🙌 1. Devil and the deep dark ocean (Marko and Floor singing) 2. Sleeping Sun (Tarja singing) 3. Dark chest of wonders (Tarja singing) 4. Everdream (Marko and Floor singing) 5. Last Ride of the day (Marko and Floor singing) 6. Wishmaster (Tarja singing) 7. High hopes (Marko singing, Pink Floyd tribute 8. Nemo (Tarja singing) 9. Storytime (Floor singing) 21. Ghost River (Marko and Floor singing)
You need to be warmed up for this song you said? Well Floor did this song as the very first song in her very first solo concert in AFAS Amsterdam 2021. But maybe she warmed up thoroughly in the dressing room. Although there are some pictures of that too (I think it is called the road to Amsterdam), filmed by her husband Hannes. All on Floor her website.
You really need to check out Storytime from the same show. It’s has everything you want in a Nightwish song, including hair flipping! It will be your next favorite song!
And you may need the captions on for that one...as awesome as the performance is, I always have trouble hearing what she sings for that song, the words are so close together and the song is so up-tempo...
You'll love hearing Floor's passagio in "Shoemaker". It's a paean to Eugene Shoemaker, a scientist-astronaut who merited having his ashes sent to the Moon by NASA. (Read up on him before you listen.) Floor found it even more challenging than "Ever Dream", and had to work on it at home after the studio sessions were done ... but of course she nails it in the end. Tuomas is lucky to have her: she lets him write stuff that he might not otherwise attempt.
Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah) is a classically trained guitarist, bassist, songwriter and talented vocalist both solo and in harmony. He was with Nightwish nearly 20yrs and made beautiful music w all 3 of the female leads, tho particularly enjoyed singing w Floor Jansen bc he could really belt and not overpower her. Though he is no longer w Nightwish, he has a thriving solo career with his original band, Tarot, and his latest project, Pyre of the Black Heart.
The male singer is Marko Hietala, who is a fantastic singer in his own right, and also amazing in harmonizing with Floor. If you want a really good example of how good he is, check out the Nightwish cover of Pink Floyd's .
Most people think that Floor stated that this song was the most challenging for her due to the high parts. One would naturally assume so. But in fact, Floor said that the low notes were actually the challenging ones for her.
I get tired just listening to Floor sing this song. Aren't to many vocalist that could sing in that range for so long, let alone as flawlessly as Floor did.
There are 3 female vocalists in Nightwish's history, but there are also 3 singers in Wacken's lineup. Floor, Marko (the bassist you heard sing in this one and Troy, who you'll see in How's the Heart). All 5 are great singers.
Mostly the off beat is due to a delay in the sound, the audience here's the music with a slight delay so clapping becomes off beat. Great reactiom, please do more NW😍
You should try Therion. They started the symphonic/operatic metal craze and are still one of the best in the genre. I would try Adulruna Rediviva live from Budapest or To Mega Therion from Wacken 2007.
I am surprised you have not reacted to Epica as I am sure many Nightwish fans have suggested them. "Rivers" would be a good one to start with before diving deeper into them. As with Nightwish live versions are the best.
Not sure about what you've reacted to yet, but a stripped down Everdream is in her Amsterdam solo concert, ( also check out "Face Your Demons" from that one ) ..... Also please watch How's the Heart acoustic version for the most stripped down pure Floor you will hear..... probably one of the most difficult melodies I've ever heard sung. And Lastly Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley), and Greatest Show on Earth ( Tampere ) ....... ‼️👍👍
I don't think the difficulty she mentioned was about it being hard skill-wise to hit the notes, but about strain to her vocal chords over time. She needs to do 2.5 hours shows several times a week when on tour, so she has to conserve her voice to make it last the tours.
I took a bus to Chicago last May, alone in a wheelchair, to hear this song. One of the best nights of my life.

Tuomas: "We had interesting discussions last summer in Röskö, where we did the pre-production of the album. Up to a certain limit, I always try to challenge them to at least try."
Haha "adds a special spice".
"he can sing too..."
Ya, that's an understatement.
Ever dreamed of having Floor in the background supporting the main vocalist - check out The Islander live at Tampere by Nightwish.
He still is lead singer of Tarot since 1982. Tarot didn't brake up they just have been so quiet for long time. And Marko does his solo gigs too.
Excellent reaction, check out their Buenos Aires concert where Floor dances on stage!! And sings at the same time, talk about stamina
Excellent reaction! Keep the NW coming!
well watching NW for hundreds of hrs can tell, Floor is straining at end. her straing is most singers best voice
Before she starts singing, Floor said to the audience "But for now, lets get start a little softer".
That had tricked a few reactors before, because they thought its some type of ballad.
Yes, I remember one of them stopped the video and said, "No, I'm not into ballads". 😅
@@jerrymail Could have been a typical reaction for David Heretic 🙂
@@zbygniewprlwytzkofsky6614 Yes, it is him ! 😁 Now I remember 👍
There is no reason not to use the fan from now on. Its settled. Lovely reaction.
Soon you will know why we call her The Goddes, Greetings from The Netherlands.
There is a lot of vocal power by Floor, with or without Nightwish,
for me one of her best vocal performances is "Seven days to the Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (her voice was in an amazing shape that evening)
Floor with her previous band Revamp: "Trial of Monsters" live at Graspop 2010 ( the "free" Floor as she founded the band and wrote the music for her own mood and voice)
sorry forgot thanks for the reaction, a good one from western Colorado
great reaction
I highly suggest you to check out a live 2022/3 version of this song. As Marko left, when they sing it, Floor does both parts and it sounds really unbelievable
Just a little tempo change.....they set you up and kick you in the face. Love it!
Marko.....he is one of the best vocalists there is. It isn't fair to other bands that they had both he and Floor at the same time for a while.
No shit....I concur.
Yeah, his Queen cover is amazing.
@@ilkkak3065wich cover ?
The man name's Marco. He has a very impressive voice. For example cover of Pink Floyd' High Hopes.
Also please react to Song of myself 😊
You should def check out her cover of Heart - Alone, its amazing, also her vocals on a live/acoustic version of a song called "Hows the heart"
Singers sing what they can
Floor sing what she want ❤

20. Storytime (Floor singing)
21. Ghost River (Marko and Floor singing)
You need to go to their rendition of Romanticide from this same concert.
Dead Boys Poem live in Buenos Aires is killer!
I may be wrong, but I seem to remember Floor saying that her passage from mixed to head is around A#5 / Bb5.
❤❤❤ chapter Austria is with you 🤟🤟
For the last few minutes of the song ,you expressed out loud what exactly goes on in my head.😂
Floor and Marko together on Romanticide from Wacken 2013 is amazing harmonies.
Yes! I also love how their voices blend seemlessly into each other on Song Of Myself, sooooo good.
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 well done girl
Singing any of the old Tarja Turunen vocals has got to be a challenge,Floor does an amazing job here.
I don't think that it's the string of Fs that make this song hard to sing, it's how little time that you have to breathe in between them...
Some you tuber IROG HIGHLITE used your Everdream reaction
Not sure about what you've reacted to yet, but a stripped down Everdream is in her Amsterdam solo concert, ( also check out "Face Your Demons" from that one ) ..... Also please watch How's the Heart acoustic version for the most stripped down pure Floor you will hear..... probably one of the most difficult melodies I've ever heard sung. And Lastly Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley), and Greatest Show on Earth ( Tampere ) ....... ‼️👍👍
The part she was referring to was the last bit after the key change, it's just a bit too high for so long.
UK Army popping in for a little story
Floor 😍😘🥰
That might have been in the past when she was just returning to singing after a break. Now she says Shoemaker is a challenging song.
I don't think the difficulty she mentioned was about it being hard skill-wise to hit the notes, but about strain to her vocal chords over time.
She needs to do 2.5 hours shows several times a week when on tour, so she has to conserve her voice to make it last the tours.
