My old friend , Reid, Introduced me to this great collaboration of jazz giants. This cut was my favorite. Unfortunatley he had a heart attack . I was at his beside when he passed and played this tune for him in his last moments . RIP dear friend.
I bought the LP Affinity in Lower Manhattan 1980 It gives me goosebumps of shear delight, and tears of sadness. So hauntingly beautiful, a masterpiece.
Imagine...Two for one! If ever the word genius was accurately applied..Toots would be the recipient..I've been digging this guy for 20 some yrs...and never cease to get "goose bumps"! He can make one weep..behind a ballad. On the "ups"...that's impossible..especially on harmonica. No one has ever dreamed of doin' the things Toots does...again...especially on that axe! Bill Evans...just a giant..and my all-time favourite on keyboard. I met each...once. Toots..humble, like I could never be. Evans...ravaged by the "shit"! What a horrible happenstance! Such a talent..cut short...by the junk! Talk about a waste. Im so pleased, I can hear them..anytime I like. I'm "hooked" too. Donny C
