Thank you so much for mentioning us, Kira! We can't thank you enough for letting your community know about us, that's super awesome! We're very excited to finally launch Ethyrial on May 1st, and hoping some of you will be along for the ride! Much love from the dev team here ❤
Gosh I love MMO launches. No guides, no elitism, everybody just excited and exploring. But genuine interest.. Blue Protocol and Wayfinder. BP just looks beautiful and Wayfinder.. as a long time Destiny and Warframe enjoyer, it is right at my alley.
Jsut a lil correction, if you will. Wayfinder is not developed by Warframe devs, its only published by them. So while it might come with some monetization practices from warframe, the game itself has very little to do with Warframe and is made by people who made Battle Chasers and The Ruined King, which are great games. And Warframe devs are making their own "MMO".
To be fair, I quit playing warframe over its monetization practices and how its all set up, so this is still fairly bleak to me. Could be fun to play though.
@@orionfire1947 Same. Warframe has great visuals but I found that after all the research, trying to play for free wasn't going to work. So I dropped $20 and that lasted me 2 weeks, and that was when I had it. I won't be annoyed nor brain washed into giving a company money with so little in return, anymore.
BDO when it first came to the West was fun af since there was no guides or clues to what to do and where etc. I recall my guild back then we'd spent time translating Korean forums trying to find out things. It was the same thing I did with old school rpgs where everything wasn't already planned on and overdone to death in guides and tutorials.
This. I remember playing on the JP server through a few hoops and hurdles before it was released in America and literally having no clue what the heck was going on but having so much fun with the combat on Musa.
awesome vid Kira, great to see you covering MMOs again! super cool to find out an MMO is releasing in a week! thx for the heads up, I'll defo try it out 🔥 My favourite upcoming MMO is defo Blue Protocol for this year
Throne and liberty is poised to be Lineage 3 effectively. Massive zerg vs zerg wars, sieges, insane p2w. Yep Perfect World did have open world pwp, it went through similar stages to WoW - as in it was very good at the start, but eventually got dumbed down with catch-up mechanics and what not. Mad p2w. They also apparently removed the character customization they used to have some years ago, which is sad, because it was amazing.
I consider an asset flip just buying a template or asset from an asset store or marketplace and making a build of an example scene etc. with making zero/minimal changes to the template/asset.
Conserning p2w comments at 2:40. Games industry was always like this since the start. From the very start arcade cabins were incredibly predatory, featuring unfair game mechanics designed to eat more coins - the original pay to win. The cost to play video games in that first era of gaming was way higher it is today.
Quick note on Perfect New World: It is a spiritual successor to Perfect World, but NOT done be PWE (Perfect World Entertainment, the company that did Perfect World International). The developer and publisher is Ironcore Game Studio, a company with no pedigree or history that anyone can really find online at all.
Digital Extreme is just publishing Wayfinder. Airship Syndicate is developing it. Many people have high hopes for Blue Protocol. It's been in development for 9(?) years. Hopefully Genshin Impact didn't steal/taint BP's thunder.
Lmfao I doubt Genshin can even touch that thunder. Since Genshin does not have custom characters and is not an MMO. Tower of Fantasy is proof of this. Question is, will Blue Protocol be mismanaged or will it be fine?
while i respect what your saying about using assets, its more what it implies about the art/development team. Most people expect bespoke art in a game thats expecting to have thousands of players, no combination of assets will ever be as genuine to an artistic vision as a set of bespoke assets would be, and people care about that. Its not about gatekeeping asset acquisition, We want games with good art, and the idea that all the assets were bought implies sub-par art design.
I absolutely love RuneScape for its world, bosses, minigames and overall freedom of approaching stuff. But always though that Wow/everquest style was the best for combat and movement. I just wish there was basically an RS with WASD movement. While for example Gorgon gets close, it's maybe too oldschool (I can play everquest, but gorgon somehow feels older than that). Well perhaps it's just the stuff Josh talked about, I want new game having the same knowledge of the world I know, which is of course impossible, so my best option is to stick with RS.
The mmo I'm most hyped for this year is Blue Protocol. I might go play Eden Eternal again once it comes out, used to play a lot when I was still in highschool 😂
I spent a few weeks playing in Mortal online 2 put around 250 in to it. All in the noob island it was great and a lot of nice people were nice in the community. But the stuff outside I heard about was nuts spawn camping is rampant, pvp guilds well lock down important area's with bots that ping the discord for them and worst of all the owner bows to the pvp crowds and we'll nerf most way to counter them. it's to bad such a good looking idea is bing driven in to the ground.
Obviously a a well done design/art style is great. A game like Mirrrors edge still looks great because of it and that has made it stand the test of time. There is however something to be said for a game just nailing what should be the basics. Is this game fun, is the combat enjoyable, is progression rewarding, if theres a grind does it feel worth it. So many games come out that look great but it feels like no one sat down at the beginning and asked what should be the first question. Is this fun?
My personal opinion on all these games is this: people need to stop being invested in the actual making of the game and just look at it when it's released. The vast majority of these games will just be meh and people will burn them selves out on alphas and betas and burn out while it's at its worst
There definitely is a difference between an rts or rpg with online multiplayer and an MMO. And I would take a well put together game with good mechanics that uses store bought models over a garbage game that uses custom artwork. Unless you are one of the big AAA companies, then there's no excuse
There is this shooter called Marauders. So these guys launched the game in alpha and then later on had plenty of issues including people blatantly hacking bugs other stuff. Instead of doing anything about it they hired a guy to sit and defend the game in Marauders forum on any topic every single day. There is hackers no There isn't there is whole thread from the guy called Macdellan. Situation is hilarious and of course game is dying would make great video. Never seen devs dealing like that with the issues.
BDO I regret buying it, it turned out to be a job instead of a game. Waste of time and money. When a game doesn't respect your time and ask you to work in it like a slave we should all steer clear of it.
I have also really enjoyed L2 back at the time. My best memories of playing MMORPGs are from the time I have played L2. I wold not play it today though. I think the tab-targeting combat in MMORPGs is just too outdated, I would be okay with tab-target+action combat hybrids, or with full acion combat, but that is only my opinon. I know that many ppl still like tab-targeting, but they are getting less and less combared to the action combat fans.
Wayfinder is PUBLISHED by Digital Extremes NOT developed. The developers are Airship Syndicate. Wayfinder doesn’t even look like a Digital Extremes game. Only games DE is developing right now is the current Warframe expansion and upcoming Soulframe.
tbh that blue protocol game looks like it will be interesting smelling a little genshin from the art and looks on the animations, not a problem with that since my biggest gripe with genshin was the combat, and how monotone it was. just spam that attack key with zero penalty. so if they nail the combat to be better then rpg games from pre snes era then interest.
Blue Protocol has been on development a lot longer than Genshin. Although Genshin does have penalties if you spam attack keys mindlessly, I can only assume you are still in the first area or running Zhongli. The BP combat feels a bit like SoulWorker for me and it’s major selling point could be the raids.
@@cekojuna6930 honestly i stoped playing genshin once i had "seen everything and the grind this for 3 weeks" started, and then the combat was just spam attack, move a bit, and whenever your "special" was off cooldown use it. there was no penalties to spam attack unless you used a bow and even then it was a case of missing out on the status proc tldr i have played snes games with more complexed combat then genshin
For whatever it's worth, I tried the Network Test for Blue Protocol and didn't particularly enjoy it. Admittedly I may have approached it from a more straight action perspective rather than MMO.

Absolutely agree with you Kira. Over the past few years every, single, Eastern MMO be it lost ark etc, is a waste of time. There is no longevity, no lasting gameplay. I avoid all eastern MMOs like the plague apart from final fantasy xiv
I agree that there is nothing generally wrong with using store bought assets. However, it does make your game less unique, less genuine; especially if you're a cheap ass and buy lousy looking assets that every one else uses for their temporary place holders lol. When it comes to monetization, I don't know why these developers can't cater to the country they are selling to. Just because the game is good, does not justify paying for it when the company is clearly raping you left and right. It may mean more time in development to change the monetization, but I think they'd do better if they cared. But they don't care, because they know they can get away with whatever is allowed, and not care if 20% of the gamers won't touch their game. So expect it to get worse over time as these companies find new ways into brain washing you to give them money, for almost no effort or to make you think you have more power over another.
Fucking eden eternal I played at launch and some time after the devs had a security breach and all the passwords got leaked. I lost all my gold and items. I am not quite sure if Throne and Liberty will have good comat. As I have seen all the skills root your character in place, that is not really action combat-like. On the other if it will be tab-targeting, then many people will just not play it because of that. What we can be sure though, that it will have some sh*tty monetazation...

Sorry this is off topic, but I saw something today you might be interested in looking at. Have you ever checked out Donald Trump's NFT project? Series 2 was released today. I've not seen anyone do a block chain analysis of the project. NFTs and a former US President. What could go wrong?
Seems to me that the mmo market is really in the dumpster.. either cash grab projects with pretty graphics but little gameplay and bloated cashshops... or projects that thought they could create an mmo on a shoestring budget and fail miserably
I got a uni degree and people are still following upcoming mmos, %99 of all the games I see in these videos are always uninspired regurgitated garbage that I can't help but question how do these mmo youtubers even keep their sanity covering this for years
The only Korean game I actually liked was Tera; and that was before they got taken over by that other company I don't remember (nor care to). I have tried BDO, and I lasted a month. I don't know why Koreans like gender lock, or are the Korean people just as annoyed as I am with it? Just about every KMMO I have tried was gender lock, p2w, garbage. Then again I am middle aged and remember a time when games, even JRPG's, were fun. Aion even had a golden age, but look how bad that has become.
Man comparing it to BDO makes me not want to try it. BDO is great as a Warriors/Musuo title, but frankly dogshit as an MMO. I don't want combo extensions, I want abilities and skill trees and dungeons and shit. Hoping T&L at least goes more traditional in that sense. Idk why you hate New World aside from it being Amazon, though

played the beta of way finder.. it sucks
Shouldve added Star Citizen to it, i feel no list is complete without it
