The method, when you slowly add material to the initial fire at the bottom and when the material becomes already embers, you add new material, I find it more successful. You do this until you run out of material or until you fill the barrel. So you get a barrel of glowing charcoal, which you then pour water over. The material must be dry. Thanks for the video.
Cool video.. I've only done it once but I took a normal barrel without any holes and set it at an angle to start... This way the air could get in and get the fire started.. Once going, I just tipped the barrel upright and continued adding material.. That's a good tip about adding smaller sticks at the end (or whenever) but especially towards the end of the process to draw the fire up.. It's pretty much six one half dozen the other it seems with charcoal making.. All methods make charcoal
Sky was being very helpful, playing with sticks... The RED Gardens project up in Offaly have a good video about BioChar. For Inoculation, they mix it with good, active compost & other soil amendments and let it hang out to fill with microbes. Would love to see a follow up video from yourselves :)
Thanks for the feedback, I’m planing on making a follow up video when I get a chance, I love the RED gardens channel and find it one of the best for relevant content on RUclips. Thanks for the support.
