  • Lets make a SLIP BOBBER RIG to catch some catfish! Slip bobber rig is a versatile rig to use when targeting catfish. You can adjust the depth at which you want your bait to sit; the rig can cover large areas as it moves with the current or wind; and it can suspend bait over sunken cover where bottom rigs are sure to snag. It'll catch all species of catfish (blue catfish, flathead catfish, channel catfish and bullhead). The slip bobber rig is an absolute must know for all catfish anglers.

    Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.

    You can use a polomar knot on both ends of the swivel if you tie the hook to the leader, then the leader to the barrel swivel, before tying the main line to the swivel.

    Another catfish video idea (if you haven’t done so already): techniques you use to help keep the catfish bait on the hook when casting. In my limited experience so far, I seem to have better luck catapulting the bait into the lake instead of keeping it on the hook.

    • @ShowMetheHawgs
      @ShowMetheHawgs  3 года назад +1

      Yes, we’ll definitely produce videos about that. Especially for chicken livers. If done right, those things usually only last one maybe two casts but if baited with cheesecloth, it keeps them on the hook much longer. I shot a video last year about making hot dogs tougher by microwaving them. Here’s a link to that one if you haven’t seen it yet: ruclips.net/video/2qw3jNNNuOQ/видео.html

    • @jimmymac4559
      @jimmymac4559 2 года назад

      My father in law does that, too. He’s new to fishing and I told him to keep his wrist and arm straight, while casting more from the side than over handed so the end of the rod doesn’t snap so hard tossing the bait. Easier to show than to describe. I hope that helps. Over time you’ll get a feel for what you can get away with and still keep the bait.

      You have to run the tag end through the loop that’s created after running the tag end through the loop at the bottom of the knot. Otherwise the knot will slip like that.

    • @xAWTxREDMIST
      @xAWTxREDMIST 10 месяцев назад

      cut your leader so it’s shorter than the length of your float. If you want a easy one to see at night take a led diode and a watch battery. Sliding the battery in between the legs of the diode and then electrical taping them together and then just tape it to the top of the slip bobber. Lasts up to 20 hours, just untape it all and let it dry separated after each use.

    How do you know what depth to tie the stopper knot for the bobber?

    • @ShowMetheHawgs
      @ShowMetheHawgs  11 месяцев назад

      If I don’t have the luxury of electronics or am bank fishing with no idea of the depth, sometimes I’ll put a sinker on with a bobber or crushed water bottle on the end of the line. I’ll cast that out, let it sink to the bottom, set the drag loose, and one stroke at a time pull line from the top of the reel to the bottom guide. I’ll keep count of how many time I do that until I see the bobber or water bottle. When I see it, I’ll multiply the number of times I pulled line out with the distance from my reel to the bottom guide. Then I’ll have a rough idea of where I want to set my bobber stop on the line. I know it’s a bit of a long explanation but I hope that helps.

      It will flow with the current. Not stay in one place but if you can get the bait down in the water column as it passes over structure, you might be able to draw cats out without risking snags. The rig will likely settle down wherever the current seam is. Also, this rig can work great in an eddy. The river will suck the rig into the eddy and will hold it there. Cats will sit in those eddies waiting for food to get sucked into it.
