Slurs shouldn't be normalised because they are used to exclude groups of people that don't deserve to be excluded. If you go on a discord server or something, and immediatly you see a bunch of people using slurs targetting your group, you're probably not going to feel welcome. Because chances are a few of those people are only half joking when they use it.
That's also the reason why it doesn't matter as much if someone uses slurs against a group they belong to, because it's very clear they don't mean anything by it.
the answer is simply dont be so sensitive- choose your people, not everyone has to like you. let people think and say whatever they want

It's the logical reaction, those people are probably morons and nobody wants to deal with that shit. And the consequence at a large scale of that kind of thing is the exclusion of groups of people from spaces.

Describing a slur as just “a word” in a vacuum is ignoring the history of the slur and how/why they’ve been used to spew hatred. I encourage you to read the history of these slurs you’re trying to argue about
you're continuing that history by giving words power and respect :) coming from it would've been used on. throw it around if you want, or don't, nobody cares.

I've got zero issues with gay people.
I used to have awkward's same reply until I was judged and ostracized for being straight lol. Most latch onto the identity of it and become bigoted in the way they view the world, very hard to have an honest conversation with most and through my life I have had 2 very close gay friends who brought me into many opportunities to socialize with gay people. Ex girlfriend with mental issues blamed me and all her gay friends assumed I was the root of the problem, got it bad when I went to art school as well.
