    The thing about julius is that he effectively died at 5, when he first touched the loptyr tome and got possesed by the evil dragon god. He suffers that fate because the cult masterminded everything, to the point of making Arvis and deirdre get together despite them actually being half siblings because their mother was the last person on earth that had Lopto holy blood
    So julius doesnt really sell out, he is the centerpiece of the cult now, he is the main perpetrator of the child hunts

      @BardockSkywalker 6 месяцев назад

      Actually, he died at 10.
      He first touched the Loptus Tome at the age of 10, not 5.

    I've literally been waiting since the fe3 review for this. This game while slow, is a masterpiece. I'm glad you loved it.

  • @riggel8804
    @riggel8804 Год назад +12

    I'm playing through fe4 for the first time right now. I'm in chapter 5.
    This game is aware of it's problems and addresses them. For example, sometimes action starts on the opposite side of the map from where your units are. It can be annoying to move your units across the map however this is an opportunity to have your units fall in love. If your units move next to each other they can fall in love which has lots of benefits.
    Another example of balancing is the arena. It would be too easy to save scum and abuse the arena for xp if you could freely swap powerful items amongst your cast. The game wisely has steep penalties for swapping items.
    The strategy element of the battle system is worth talking about. You can give stat boosts to units in lots of ways. Love, Authority, terain, items and skills all give sizable stat boosts. You can optimize these stat boosts to help even one of your thieves gain xp in battle. Give your thief the thunder sword and magic ring, park him three spaces away from sigurd and the thief's wife and he can fight some basic enemies.

      More than that, in my last playthrough, the child thief you get, I had her father as Azel. She got a magic ring, and I got her the thunder sword. She ended up with more Mag than Str, and she had my 3rd most kills before the game was over.

    Ya got me with that deadpan "okay" at 4:30. Goobers notwithstanding, Genealogy might just be the only Fire Emblem game I've been genuinely interested in trying out, and this vid could be the push I need to withstand that fifteen minute intro. Another job well done.

    Great review and retrospective! 16:55 So I had the exact same problem with horse-riding enemies targeting only one of my allies. There's a trick, you need to quickly destroy the enemy leader who is in charge there. Afterwards the enemy AI becomes really bad and the horse-riders will target your allies randomly and distribute the damage as you said. To give an example, when you battle Eldigan he has a lot of knights, you can just talk to him with one character to make him leave, but let's say instead you want to beat him normally. You can just beat him first and his knights will suddenly get very bad AI. But if you leave Eldigan alone then the knights will keep targeting one of your allies at a time, which is what someone competent would do.

    Jason I am a big fan of your content, you do a really good job. Your videos on some of the lesser known RPGs, such as Brain Lord, has served as a great resource when I’m looking for something to play that’s off the beaten path.
    Your thoughts on 7th Saga were spot on, how it’s only notable because of its difficulty. It is one of my favorite SNES RPGs, and you’re one of the few to look past it’s difficulty and give it a reasonably favorable review.

    I kind of like how overbearing the exposition is at first because it is the only fire emblem world that really feels like it existed before and after the story of the game. In a way, it’s almost like how Dune or Lord of the Rings can feel like they are sidetracked with information unrelated to the plot, but that density helps make a fully realized world. My second favorite fe game is fates because of the gameplay, but the fates universe would still be bad even if the script was better because nothing exists unless corrin directly observed it. In Jugdral, the war in Issach is happening at the same time as gen 1 and in gen 2 part of Leif’s story is simultaneous. The game never mentions what is happening in august to in gen 2, but I can easily imagine various stories happening throughout Jugdral because the world has real continuity

    Grandvell is a mistranslation, since Japanese has instances where the translator has multiple possible options when it is translated in English. This happens a lot with 'b' vs 'v' or 'L' and 'R'.

    Funny thing about chapter 5. With some glitches and weird RNG abuse, you can save quan and ethlyn. Buuut.... it softlocks you out of the game so.... it's just a novelty.
    As for the beginning of the game, yeah it showers you with waaaaaay too much text. I had to play gen one 3 times over before I actually knew wtf was going on. 😐

    The best part about this game on a first run is the fact that it feels like a campaign and all its aesthetic is built like a campaign, in all aspects of design. The back story, gameplay, and character design origin and backstory add amd strengthen said campaign, it has short comings but what it brings to the table will always outweigh its shortcomings. And most of your shortcomings that you mentioned are more tailored to you being unable to perform as a player, someone like you requires a lower difficulty setting, the consumer enjoyment matters, a base max difficulty like the installments before fire emblem 8 isn't very good at catering to the unskilled.

    Loved this fire emblem so much, I'm in the 'It needs a remake crowd!' especially with how well they nailed the gaiden remake.
    You could also revive dead units in this game! There is a priest unit who can revive someone, but it cost alot to fix the revive staff and the priest couldn't really make money in the arena. You also needed to do it in the same battle the character died in.
    The right pairings were also 'fun' if you made the effort(aka looked up a guide lol), you'd wind up with multiple kids who could practically solo the 2nd half of the game on their own.

    Currently going through "old" emblem (which for me is 1-5, as I've played everything 6 and onward multiple times). I'm on FE3, just about to wrap up book 1. SO far I've enjoyed FE3, but it's far too easy and honestly I'd rather just be playing the DS remakes (Which are among my all time favorite FE games, up there with the GBA entries, and Shadows of Valentia). I'm looking forwards to getting to FE4 though, to see if it live up to the hype i've read for years and years. I'm not as fond of a lot of modern emblem as I am of "older" (FE 6 - 12) emblem (fates is, IMO, the worst ever entry. Awakening is Mid, engage is mid, and TH is.... well it's pretty good actually), but i've never gotten into the SNES entries before.
