    14 RX bought new with 83k on the clock and I've had absolutely ZERO repairs on it, best car I've ever owned. Preventative maintenance is key oil, fluid, brakes and tires is all I've done. Consistent oil changes is key.

    How do they test for the reliability of new cars?

    • @codincoman9019
      @codincoman9019 3 дня назад +3

      @@thomaskim5008 Excellent question.
      They use the "predicted reliability" oxymoron, which is against the very fiber of the reliability, that can be assessed only outside the warranty. Their 5-10 years used reliable cars ranking is far closer to what reliability means. And then you have a different image on the Top 5: Lexus, Toyota, Mazda, Acura, Honda.
      They use statistics to get what some sponsors paid some individuals to do. Otherwise there is no logical explanation on how Bring My Wallet and the Korean clunkers entered the Top 10.

    If you change Subaru with Mazda you get closer to reality. The top of 5-10 years old car brands is:
    #1 Lexus
    #2 Toyota
    #3 Mazda
    #4 Acura
    #5 Honda.
    The German and Korean lemons are actually far below the best Japanese brands.

      I agree with your list. Subaru no way.

    • @boboiboy9350
      @boboiboy9350 3 дня назад

      Then, trust nobody. You can do your own tests at your disposal. No way a big company who have access to real numbers of consumers feedback annually can be that reliable. Sure whatever car you drives are more reliable than others

    • @codincoman9019
      @codincoman9019 3 дня назад

      @@boboiboy9350 Bobo snowflake, cool down.
      After you learn how statistics work, maybe you get to be taken seriously.
      Until then, you can still uncover that when only two models from Subaru (Forester and Crosstrek - that I plan to add to my cars fleet soon - and only one engine from both) have been tested against the many models, engines, trans from Lexus and Toyota and Honda, then you can use some simple statistical tactics (such as the "predicted reliability" oxymoron, that failed miserably many times) to get Subaru #1 (sorry for you if you drive an unreliable one).
      Otherwise, maybe, maybe you can also understand some things when you read the 5-10 years used Top 5 reliable cars (published by the very same NGO: Consumer Reports, a pretty reliable source of info, but using bad methods to assess the "best" cars etc.):
      #1 Lexus
      #2 Toyota
      #3 Mazda
      #4 Acura
      #5 Honda
      That is far, far closer to the real reliability (proven only in time) of these car brands.
      By the way, you might ask yourself why do I buy cars from brands that are not really in Top 3 reliability nor low TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), such as Subaru.
      It's very simple: the different segments' reliability rankings by cars is sometimes very different from brands' overall ranking.
      Thus my decision to add the Subaru Crosstrek Wildlife, the leader of the small off-road wagon cars. I do have other segment leaders from Lexus, Mazda, Suzuki etc. as I had also from Honda, Toyota or from the German, Swedish, Italian, French, Korean, American brands some time ago. Plus the cars fleets of thousands cars I managed, on which I had very detailed analysis on actual vs. budgeted figures, the other cars (and tyres) I tested, researched etc.
      Are you able to grasp what I wrote without getting so butt-hurt?

    As an auto Engineer, i can guarantee you guys There is no car called reliable or unreliable. There are only good users and bad users. Any car will last longer in your hand if you are a good user. Opposite will happen if you are a bad user. You can destroy a Subaru in less than 50k, can drive a Ford F150 400k miles. Its all upto you. Thank you for reading my long post. And GFOH

  • @jeffruebens8355
    @jeffruebens8355 6 дней назад +1

    I think Consumer Reports surveys are skewed toward the first 100 thousand miles, because a certain type of person pays their annual fee to get asked to fill out a survey. A better option might be to see the Royalty Auto Service video from 2 weeks ago, about the 5 least expensive brands to maintain. Important caveats to the numbers that he talks about, such as Hyundai and Kia look more reliable because owners will often trade them in rather than do expensive repairs, and Toyota and Lexus look less reliable because owners will often spend thousands to repair it when it already has 200 thousand miles.

    Car prices are still too high for the average consumer. And going to a dealership is number 1 on a consumer list on things they absolutely hate to do. It is sad that we are simply targets for their unfair tactics to take advantage of the already struggling consumer.

      I don't like the fact that at the Subaru website they advertise the fact that Consumer Reports recommends their cars. 15 years ago Consumer Reports used to brag how they would never let any company advertise the fact that Consumer Reports recommended their product. Consumer Reports does not have as much integrity as they used to.
