  • As the quote goes, both prospects are equally terrifying.

This video dates back to the days of the Tor's Cabinet of Curiosities podcast; I wrote the original script in 2022 to get extra credit in my astronomy class. Obviously, it took a lot of updating. Considering that aliens are one of the Internet's longtime favorite topics, if you're into aliens/UFOs/UAPs/space in general, you'll likely have already heard of most of the topics discussed in this video. This is a rundown of some of the most plausible scientific evidence for aliens and it's much more of a general "intro to a vast topic" kind of video than the typical deep dives I do. I don't currently have plans for any other videos on aliens or space, but I'll probably do something else along these lines at some point.
Even though these stories are intriguing and I'd love to see first contact in my lifetime, I'm a proponent of a Rare Earth hypothesis, as I say in the video; that said, I'm definitely not an expert in any of this, and doing the research for this video has moved me closer to being a believer. If you want to go further down the rabbit hole, check out the channels Event Horizon ‪@EventHorizonShow‬ and Astrum ‪@astrumspace‬ which cover a lot of topics similar to the ones I covered in this episode, much more in-depth, with just the right balance of open-mindedness and scientific skepticism. Be aware that there are a lot of crackpots in this corner of the internet, though. Be open-minded - but not so open-minded your brain falls out.

An interesting perspective on abiogenesis (TL;DR: We don’t know if life may have evolved multiple times on Earth, because if an entirely new type of lifeform was created from non-living matter, the existing life would have eaten it before it could turn into something new, therefore, abiogenesis might be more common than we think on Earth, so possibly on other planets too): / how_come_abiogenesis_d...
