I think we can all tell, this was one of Alan's favorite songs to play growing up
It actually wasn’t. I just happened to know it really well some how AND I had to learn it on my first tour in about 8 hours before playing it without touching the kit!
I can play up to that speed on the kicks for a solid 15 seconds and im wiped out, exhausted. This man just looks like he's reading a book, unreal as always.

I'll be honest. as someone who plays on and off, the speed is all in the technique. the swivel technique really takes the load off the other muscles. at least that's the way I see it. yes it does take time to even build up the speed and technique but as someone who's only been playing drums as a whole for 4-5 years, the technique genuinely falls on the technique. am I as tight as Alan, no but that is the idea behind it
Not a drummer at all, guitarist here, just curious as ti how heavy those pedals? Feels like a lot of drummers have a technique to make it look fairly easy to press down

absolutely love your take on this song, keeping the main beats and cymbal voicing faithful to the album but spinning the fills into your style. plus the consistency between this and your basement playthrough from 2013 is crazy!! also Marshall KILLS these mixes, all 3 of these new playthroughs sounds SO good

I put years in trying to learn double bass and getting my single strokes up barely got to 170 bpm with just fingers
My wrists max out at like 150 smh

I’ve always thought among the death metal scene, The Black Dahlia Murder has always been my fave, and stood out to me in two ways mostly. And maybe I’m biased since I’m a Drummer before being a Guitarist.
The vocals and Drums. The Guitars are always tasteful as well, don’t get me wrong. But, Trev has such a unique and badass tone to his vocals. And I’ve always thought the Drums were groovier than other bands of the like, and you being a later in the catalog Drummer, I dig your grooves, man- staying true to their sound, without sacrificing your own feel for the music.

I've always thought the same thing about the guitar work, seems akin to something like "Carnal Forge" or "At the Gates" I think, maybe a slight inspiration behind some of the rhythm work?

It's a technique drummers use when they play heel up on the pedals. I believe its called swivel technique.

No hate, but why is Shannon Lucas' name still being posted on Alan's videos? Both are great drummers but Alan is by far TBDM's longest standing drummer. Who cares about comparisons anymore especially on a song neither of them originally recorded.

There’s definitely no counting involved in any of my playing. You just learn the song and do it.
