I installed my own speakers in living room, total cost of materials was $250. Labor (my own) I'd estimate was at least $750. two 8" in-wall $45 each, two 8" ceiling $40 each, 50ft 14AWG In-wall rated wire $22, two banana post wall sockets $6 each. Can't believe they'd charge $3000 for that job. It was easy if you know how to fish a cable down a wall, can access your attic and know how to use a flashlight, cut a hole using a hand saw or power tool following a provided template with the speaker.
I shop at BB a lot, and the cost of paying for Geek Squad individually on each item comes out to the same as the yearly membership! I should be ashamed, but instead I'm just happy I came across your video! I loved the breakdown, it was much better than how it's explained in store.
Total tech was amazing at $200 with free delivery and install including wall mounting. Now at $180 it’s useless. Took away included install. Yeah you may still be able to get AppleCare for your products but I don’t buy my Apple products from Best Buy. I always get them on launch day from Apple so I could care less. Also their total tech deals are a total crock of crap because they have to compete with Amazon because I already have an Amazon subscription and they have the same price! Best Buy is totaltech is nothing special anymore. It’s sad because it was amazing.
I completely agree with you. When I made this video, I definitely thought it was worth it, but based on all the changes you’re saying that they implemented it no longer seems that way unfortunately.
@@wyatttech yeah, I canceled my TotalTech and just went back down to Plus. Because I can’t pre-order my iPhone every year from Best Buy where I would get AppleCare included, that would actually make it worth it. I could justify the $180 a year if I could get my launch day products with AppleCare. The problem is Best Buy doesn’t get anything in stock quickly.
This isnt exactly related to total tech..well idk but does geek squad work on or fix an hdmi port on my xbox S one or wtv the newer one is not older xbox one, that wasnt purchased at best buy?
I think it’s a good buy with appliance purchases due to the warranty. But based on what a lot of other people have commented it no longer includes free installation, so I would keep that in mind!
So I admit I'm a bit confused. The membership Is $200 per year. So you get a two-year warranty correct? But if you don't renew after the first year, isn't your warranty canceled? So to get the full two years you actually have to have two years of membership which would be $400 not $200? Or am I missing something?
It was worth it for my family . So far we brought 4 air conditioners, 3 televisions , 1 tv stand , 1 Xbox , and ear pod pros . Everything delivered , everything set up and put together , tv’s wall mounted . Everything got automatic 2 year warranty .
I have a Pixel 7 Pro with geek squad protection plan for 2 years. Screen starts to flicker when I watch a 4K video on RUclips and I checked their price and the phone is currently selling for $100 less than I originally bought it for. Would my claim be accepted for a new device?
Totally worth it if you are like me and buy a lot of things from Best Buy! Love it! Saved me big time! Install cost of all my stuff made it a great deal. But, sadly Best Buy found out they screwed themself and have changed free installation with any purchase. Great news is I’m grandfathered in for the next year before then end it for me.
Thanks for this. I learned some thing. The delivery, installation, mounting and haul away is worth it, especially if you have physical challenges. Also, I put a big TV and TotalTech in my cart yesterday, and TotalTech ITSELF was discounted a bit, $6 or so. So, there is also a bit of savings on the service itself. I'd be interested to know if this changes much over time, with special offers as well. So, if I got BB to deliver/mount a TV it's $250. If I do it by buying TotalTech, it's $193... and I get the year of OTHER benefits, too.
I didn’t know they discounted the cost of TotalTech too! Definitely worth it if you get that TV mounted, then the rest pays for itself. Thanks for watching!
@@wyatttech Great video! I do have a question How do you contact geek Squad? Or the people who actually service the home theater system? I unplugged my subwoofer for my soundbar and now it doesn't sound as strong as it did prior. When you try to use the app to chat with someone the screen just sits there blank. Also if you try to schedule an appointment it seems like it's only for in store when they said they have them come out and in store or on the phone. There's really no directive telling you which way to go to obtain help
@@bosshova23 My experience with contact has been pretty good - just by going on the app and starting a chat. I have made a few calls to support as well and never really had an issue with it. It sounds like your app might be bugged if the chat doesn’t work! I’d say to give your local store a call to let them know and see how to schedule an in-home visit.
We purchased Total Tech with our appliances but found that the manufacture covers any issues the first year. Will my total tech need to be renewed for the second year or will it actually kick in for the second year?
I took my laptop in as there some issues to gs (short). I have warranty still with the laptop. They wouldn't look at it until, I joined the TotalTech. In which I don't have 200.00 for it (because my budget). I thought they still would look at it with my warranty, am I right?
It depends which warranty if it’s Best Buy warranty you purchased or your talking about manufacturing warranty cause if it’s manufactured they can send it out for service they just charge a service fee to send it out for you
Thanks for the info. We were looking to buy an appliance package as well and considered the total tech coverage as well however, if you need a service call due to diagnose a faulty appliance etc.. It is a 99.00 deductible for each occurance. That is what we found out later. Is this what you understood it to be as well? I didnt hear you mention that in the disadvantages of the plan. Thanks so much for your input
You are correct. I also didn’t realize it at the time of making this video but after looking into it I do see that there is a $99 service fee for devices that were bought for $1,000 or more. Definitely a good point to consider - however I wouldn’t say it’s fully a disadvantage because every protection plan (TotalTech or not) has a service fee as far as I’m aware.
I’m purchasing a Samsung S23+. I was previously an iPhone user and always purchased AppleCare+ (which gave me protection for 2 years). Would this be a good purchase for me? Thanks for he video!!
According to a Best Buy rep I just spoke with, a two year protection plan for the new S23+ would be $179. So I would say if it’s going to be your only major purchase in the next two years, it would be cheaper to go with just the protection plan. But if you’re planning to do more large purchases or things like appliances, TotalTech isn’t too much more expensive and definitely worth it then! Thank you for your comment and for watching the video!
Today is December 17th 2023 I just purchased a 65 inch TV from Best Buy on sale and they are wanting to charge me 250 to mounted on the wall and the wall mount is already installed all they would have to do is take one TV off of that mount and put the new one up but they want to charge me for it. Seems like everything I try to get with this total Tech they tell me there's a charge for it and they'll say something insignificant like we will give you a 10% discount on this or that and that is not worth it for me exclamation point I am canceling this total Tech crap right now and I'm canceling and refunding for this TV before they deliver it a couple of days from now if I've got to pay somebody to help me put one on the wall and take the other one down it's not worth it Walmart is good at looking at all of the things that the other stores are lacking in and if Walmart ever starts to offer free installation the Best Buy will go down like Carl Wallenda!
I don’t blame you for canceling it. I did not end up renewing, and based off of what a lot of people have told me here in the comments, it sounds like most of the best perks of Total Tech that I went over in this video have since been removed ☹️
DO NOT waste your $200 bucks on that bull crap unless you are completely computer illiterate. It does not cover ANY hardware what-so-ever and to just have some kid reinstall your operating system and do a back up that will most likely not be any where near complete. For $200 bucks to save a few files that you can store on a cloud is a giant rip off and they can see a sucker come for miles around. In fact you shouldn't even buy a PC or laptop from them because they will install their crap geek software on your computer.
