As a South African I did time on a trawler. I loved it but it is hard work. The worst after a couple days is the feeling of being just "half awake" and in slow motion. Lack of sleep. Average hours per day being active was 20 hours. In all weather conditions.

I agree that many large scale trawling operations are likely unstable, but what about the crew that depend on it to feed their families? Some communities even exist just because of fishing weather you like it or not.
