I'm from Tatabánya and even my parents and grandparents lived here. The city has a bad reputation in Hungary because most people find it ugly. Sure, we don't have many pretty buildings like Budapest but I like my hometown anyway. Seeing your excitement about our history makes me happy, thank you so much for this video! 😊
Bro, I love your videos. it’s amazing how you speak Hungarian but also you’re very knowledgeable you know a lot about the town you visited impresses me Big up
It was great to see this video :) thank you very much I hope you let us know when you're here again and we'll see
Great video! I was born and bred in Tatabánya - Sárberek coming from a mining family! I haven't been there for 14 years, and those places you visited bring back wonderful memories. I would've loved to see the Football Stadium too in this video. Maybe next time! Hajrá Bányász.
én is sárberki voltam, amerre sétált Willie, ott rohangáltam bölisként, ovisként, sulisként... arrafele rosszalkodtunk a haverokkal, a lakók legnagyobb örömére :D
Szia Willie: Nagyon csodálatosak a videóid. A videód sztárjai a három testvér a buszmegállóban, a velük való kapcsolatod fantasztikus. Amikor a helyiekkel beszélgetsz, különösen a gyerekekkel, a videóid élvezetesebbek.
Hey Willie I am blown away by your knowledge of a place like Tatabanya where I was born 67 years ago. I find your vlog very informative for anyone who watches this video. Amazing! Keep up the good work! BTW. Impressed by your Hungarian.👍
Hi i have been in Hungary budapest about a year now trying to the language and i like watching your videos and learn a lot of the hungarian culture and history 👍 thanks
Dear Willie! It’s really cool that you go outside from Budapest and visit other Hungarian places, cities. I live near Tatabánya and I’ve been so disappointed that almost no one had been recognizing the beauties of the city. I’m really happy that you visited Tatabánya, viewed its attractions and looked after its history. If you came nearby once again, I would definitely recommend you to visit Tata, Komárom, Esztergom too. They are beautiful towns with lots of attractions and interesting histories as well. I can’t wait for your next video! Take care, Vigyázz magadra! 😀 Kevin (P.S: The seven leaders were called Álmos, Előd, Ond, Kond, Tas, Huba and Töhötöm. They made “blood contract” by injuring their own hands and drinking some of each other’s blood to swear that they will be inseparable. Árpád was the son of Álmos who led ancient Hungarians to the Carpathian Basin (as you said correctly in your video). )
Hey, Willie! Just subscribed to your fantastic channel! A big high five and a hug, my friend for your informative and interesting work! I'm watching your vids from Canada as a hungarian! Lots of memories come up!🎉😊
Just randomly stumbled across your content and It's nice to see people exploring outside of the greater Budapest area. A lot of hidden gems everywhere outside of the capital, especially in the Transdanubian area. I study in Veszprém, which is underrated to us hungarians as well, and it's a very pretty little city. Also I'd recommend you exploring Székesfehérvár, where I live. Also known as the city of the hungarian kings it is a sight to behold really.
Hey dude....lm originally from Hungary.....l now live in Melbourne Australia....a place l understand from your past vids that you almost got to.....thanks for all the tours you have taking me and my Aussie wife on....we are a long time subscriber - way back from the walking with willy days ....all our blessings
Born and raised here - you should visit the cave and the bird statue plus there is nice viewpoint on the hill made from a reconstructed mining elevator - totally worth it
Határozottan jól sikerült a videó! Park, Liget a tóval, Népház, Cifra Palota! Ezenkívül teljesen kimaradt még Felsőgalla, Kertváros, Síkvölgy-külterület, Újváros régi másik fele, a Vértes Centertől lefelé, Alsógalla centruma-Táncsics u.! Ezek mellett a Turul madár, a Szelim barlang, a Kilátó meglátogatását is belevehetnéd! Nekem a legjobban a 3 tesóval készült beszélgetés tetszett a legjobban, az Aradi út elején lévő buszmegállónál!(Mátyás kir.u. megálló) Nemcsak azért, mert ebben az utcában lakom, hanem egyébként is! Hatalmas nagy gratuláció, és várom(várjuk) a folytatást!
Szia Willie, Szuper video again. I love the fact that you are so immersed in Hungarian culture and much less known areas of the country. I live and work in your home country of the USA and you do the same in my home country and hope we could catch up one day. I certainly appreciate everything you do. Szia !
Amazing content, I really like your accent, enthusiasm, and desire to acquire the Hungarian language, which is admittedly not frequent among foreigners (a prominent example of that might be the head coach of the national team, Marco Rossi, who barely has any words in our language).
A few years ago I would say come here when it's Bányásznap- an annual event- there are music and other programs for that and you could buy many vásárfiát- in the city but in the last few years it's just isn't what it used to be. If you would visit it come when the school starts (first weekend of September) and the Május 1. park is close to Alsógalla trainstop (there's a church in the park too).
Great passion thx Nice to learn about tbánya as tatabányai youngsters call it sometimes😀, every time i watch your videos i feel how much i don’t know about our history😂 wakes me up to know more , discover etc. Thanks a lot willie
Man, I absolutely loved this. 💯 Born and raised here, I like living in Tatabánya, but I always tell everyone: "My hometown? There's absolutely nothing to see there apart from Turul and the Szelim cave!" And yet you showed us, there is! 🫡 For us it's nothing special, but you successfully made it interesting. 😁 Thank you, excellent job you made here! 👌🏻
Willie, man you got to go to Hortobágy once, the national park out there on the Great Plains, now a World Heritage site. People from around the world stand in awe at its flat vastness when visiting there, under the great big sky. When I was your age, I always dreamed of crossing it on foot, they say you can do it in two days from Püspökladány to Polgár, sleeping out there in the open at night in the Puszta. The Pannonian Basin is the heart of Hungary and Hortobágy is its crown jewel. Would be an experience of a lifetime and would make my dream come true too.
Hi Willie! 😊 Thanks for this very informative video! 🫶🏻 Come to Nyíregyháza if you can! 😁 I live here and I am very interested what do you say about this beautiful city! 😇✨

you did NOT show any tourist attraction to convince me to travel to Tatabánya. And what's awesome in this is that your presentation made me seriously consider to move to there instead. I love how positive approach made every low key depressive part (except Bánhida) look like a fine place to live amazes me, good job there. See ya on Tatabánya perhaps? edit: you are totally right, those panels will outlive anyone. And to go to places without any meals for most of the day is the authentic way to experience most of the hungarian countryside edit2: did you just walk into a random house?!
Greetings from the neighboring city! I would recommend to you to give it a visit as well! (I would say that miss some parts of the city, but since you survived Tatabánya I think you have nothing to worry about!)
Great vid! Now anybody can see Hungary's real side. Dark, depressive, cheap. Nice work after those Budapest videos, where you can watch only the inner city, expensive shops and the richer people.
Wow, you did lakótelepesebb with a quick thinking on it and nailed it perfectly at once, though such unused word needs work for even us, huns! You must have read a lot in hun lately, I presume .. :) The kids were not kidding, your hun's got better, cheers!
Hey Willie! Next come, you come to Tatabánya, let me know. I, like you belong to the “Americans with Hungarian wife club.” I’ve lived in Tatabánya for 18 years.
Did you know, Tata is also means Grandfather? Busho - Walking are goes back in time when local people and communities made Turkish to go away / fled thus saving The Kingdom Of Hungary. That is a memorial or memorial day.
Nice! BTW, if you're interested in Székesfehérvár, i can show you around. :D The top doors on the panelházak are usually open, so you can go to the roof, in case of a fire, there is an excape route to the other staircases. The insulated pipes are most likely távfűtés, they bring hot steam to the blocks for heating and hot water. In Székesfehérvár, they make an open day every year in the factory with the boilers where they make the steam, probably in other cities too, keep an eye open, they are pretty interesting.
It's so weird to see someone roam through my city 😂 you even walked past our old garage and there was a glimpse of my house too. You gotta check the Május 1 park and the small lake next to the theatre. Well also the erőmű a little more that you showed at the end. I was always fascinated by it and I've been staring at it for 30 years 😂 it's just so big and has all kinds of weird things around it
At 2:41 in the right you can see a Toyota Corolla E12, but its not just a basic Corolla, it was Toyota's answer to the Civic Type R, with the 1.8L Naturally aspirated VVLT-I engine it makes 192hp and 180 nm, coolest sleeper in that era. In fact they named it TS Corolla. Dear Willie, thankyou for making my car famous on the internet, next time you come hit me up and ill give you a Joyride (also we can street race at night haha)
Bro this feels so great that our little town gets some representation for once! I was born in Tata and left Tatabánya at around 12 and been moving around ever since! There is so many places you went by like where my parents got married, where I went to school, where I used to go back and get drunk as a teen and so forth. Thank you for this video Willie! btw The Witcher had shot some stuff in the Szelim Cave and the restaurant up there was built for the Witcher crew back then specifically. Also the Tata Castle was used for the Witcher too but I think they cut some scenes from that location.
Let me correct you on one thing mate there’s no Tatabanya district of Tatabanya. The city was formed of the unification of three villages Banhida, Alsogalla and Felsogalla thus became Tatabanya and with the building of thousands of multi story panel houses.
I raised here in this town and that "lakotelep" in 7:40. Played so many at that playround in the 90's. My grandparents still live in that apartment behind you in 7:47. 😊
Hi Willie!! I am originally from Pecs. But I grew up here in the States. I love how well you are speaking in Hungarian and reading too. Well done!! Are you going to ever visit Siklos?? If so...I was Christened in the Siklosi Var, the Castle has a Chapel in the courtyard. Under it...the original torcher chamber!!Please let me know if you ever visit there and do a video for it. Thank you for the great Channel for us who miss our beloved Motherland and allowing us to feel like we can still connect to it.

Thanks for showing my boyfirend in his natural habitat (butcher shop). xD
you did NOT show any tourist attraction to convince me to travel to Tatabánya.
And to go to places without any meals for most of the day is the authentic way to experience most of the hungarian countryside

Still waiting for part 2 where u discover the forgotten parts of this town

Hello Tatbánya!
I was born here....
Wow, you did lakótelepesebb with a quick thinking on it and nailed it perfectly at once, though such unused word needs work for even us, huns! You must have read a lot in hun lately, I presume .. :)

Ahol megbotlottál, ott kincs lehet! :) Szokták mondani. :)
Nice! BTW, if you're interested in Székesfehérvár, i can show you around. :D
The top doors on the panelházak are usually open, so you can go to the roof, in case of a fire, there is an excape route to the other staircases.
The insulated pipes are most likely távfűtés, they bring hot steam to the blocks for heating and hot water. In Székesfehérvár, they make an open day every year in the factory with the boilers where they make the steam, probably in other cities too, keep an eye open, they are pretty interesting.
Message me on instagram please we can set up a day

Thanks for another fascinating post. I adore Hungary and Budapest and visit once a year from the UK to 'take the waters'. Cheers Willie 🇬🇧
Nice man - taking the waters is a great Endeavour
Take the waters? You mean go to one of thermal baths?
