People do things like this all the time on motorcycles, solo, completely exposed to the elements. For fun. Without acting like they just performed a miracle. With that said, this looks like a fun trip!
Robert Forbes the stampede was a chopper race cross country. Hardtail, no windshield, no chase car, no BS. Those guys were beasts at that kind of ride.
I've once crossed the US in a 79 Trans Am some years ago and it was surprisingly reliable. Drove real fast when the cops were away. It never broke down other than a few cosmetic blemishes I got on the road. And I made it. Now I'm cheering on his Moggy!
Vintage car? No GPS? Open wheel? The Morgan they drove is not vintage, it's new. I spotted a GPS in the cockpit. It has cycle fenders up front and an enclosed wheel in the back. Goofy, eccentric but not what Alex claims it to be. I've done a similar but slower trip (50 HP) twice from Montreal Canada to Los Angeles in an unrestored 1950 Chevy 2-door post with no chase van, no working gauges and no sense. It was fantastic. (I'm also an automotive journalist for the past 20 years)
I'm wondering how many people have ever crossed the US with Motorcycle. I guess a lot ! Doing it with the three-wheeler is not that different except the butt won't hurt as much as on a bike. Complaining about safety and comfort? Affraid of diying on the tour? Are you whimps?
exactly, ive ridden cross country on motorcycle 3 times, and ive done the iron butt speed runs, 1000 miles in 24 hours, in a morgan itd be easy as hell..
Ironbutt checking in here 3300 miles coast to coast twice under 48 hrs with a 2 gallon tank on a sportster. These guys are taking there time and riding in luxury ;).
The Morgan 3-wheeler was one of many 3-wheelers popular in the UK because they were far cheaper to run than a proper car at a time when many people could not afford a car, and had only a motorcycle licence. They paid a lower road tax, cost less to buy, and did more mpg. Most were tiny saloons with tiny engines and top speed of 50 mph or less. The Morgan offered a more sporty experience with its sports car handling and powerful engine, to people who liked to be different. It was never intended for, nor suitable for, long distance cruising. You guys are brave indeed to make such a journey in the least suitable car in the world.
Sorry, if you are using a Morgan to do this trip cross country then using a cell phone to call a remote mechanic is cheating and completely negates that you're not using GPS nor any other modern electronics, cell phone are the most modern of all electronics.
An adventure, yes, but not an exploit. Driving cross-country in an unheated, fully exposed vehicle is certainly nothing special to motorcyclists and they don't make a big drama out of it. 6 hours sleep in 24h, followed by a 40 hour dash. That's irresponsible.
Americans really do like to theatricize anything. Lads are just going for a long drive in a 3 wheeler over paved roads but they're acting as though it's a polar expedition.
Any plans for the upcoming Das Audi Auto all track Q 0.8 Mk XXVII Kettenkrad (Hillary luv n piss trike) Now news from ze bunker that all the SJW mods done , none "stick", none front brake. Herr Merkel of the fourth reich says will be "WUNDERBAR" after the team behind Das Audi Auto A2 taken from ze bunker and shot. And the turn right far far right over Poland to old mother Russia will be stopped by the eastern seaboard. Available in desert dusk (pink) For Das Audi Auto uber kool with a "K" hip trendy window licking volk now. Uncle Roy and the boy be well at home on a "epic" drive in one.
Have you ever driven across America? 40 hours is pretty god damned short for a transcontinental drive. Even if you don't stop for sightseeing, 4 days is the norm.
Godmason That’s not truly Trans-continental. ( Even the term is flawed, as it was coined before Alaska became a state in ‘59). If He wants to do something truly awe inspiring, he needs to do it as I suggested in my main comment.
Did it in the late '70's in a 1968 Austin America with a broken transmission linkage box that dropped the shifter linkage parts on the ground every 50 miles or so. Also had a dented boot (trunk) that let the rain flood out the electric fuel pump, which had to be taken out, dried, and put back in, a dead speedometer, and a rag for a gas cap. ALL done on state highways, NOT Interstates, on road's I'd never been on. I was alone, 19, and this was my first "what you could call" a car. Got one ticket for speeding because I had NO CLUE what speed I was going, and a fix-it ticket for the rag in the tank. That was called _"TRAVELING"_ back in the day, *not setting a record* ...
Having cycled across the States 4500 miles from east coast to west I don't think I'd describe this as particularly dangerous - but it is tremendous fun and well done for doing it in a great British car! One day I'll bring my '63 MGB over from the UK and try it in that (no power steering or servo assisted brakes!). But using an unsupported jack?! By far the most dangerous part of the journey.
As a truck driver I will warn u to never do this again. We barley see cars some times in the dark cause of all the new bright lights everyone has coming towards us. You being so low and with such few lights on your rig and doing less then traffic , your asking for injury or death. Please avoid these stunts with out escorts the whole way with flashing lights on the escort units. I’m not even joking.
Awesome experience, big respect that you managed to do this :) The Morgan Three-Wheeler is by far one of the most fan-tas-tic cars to see and hear, but it ends there. It is only good for a couple of hours on a track day... Still, fantastic to look at.
That was amazing guys 41 hrs and the fact you made it in one piece is even better. I don't if I would ever want to do what you guys did but in any event you guys did a great job.
A bit of cold and rainy weather, leaking fluid, and some tickets...this is the worst thing you've done in your life??? Really? Such a sheltered life...you guys need to get out more.
This guy sees a challenge in driving this across the country? I know dozens of people who have and many still do cross the country on motorcycles and don't consider themselves daredevils doing it. many of them still ride their 80's BMW pushrod twins. No GPS or electronic guidance, in fact a couple of them still carry film cameras and flip phones, not even smart phones. As for these new morgans, they're not the old ones of the 30's. These people are ridiculous, let them try driving an early 80's peugeot diesel wagon across the country that will definitely not keep up with interstate traffic so has to be used on side roads and with no air conditioning like one friend does!
I did a run in a Morgan from Seattle Wa to Benicia Ca. No problems with police or breaking down. 783 miles in just about 13 hrs 7 mins. The only thing is interstate 5 coming out of Ashland Oregon is a hell of a climb for the little morgan
I have done that here in the Philippines but.only 1500 kilometers straight driving on a cannonball type race . We were 3 with3 wheelers , We where limited to finish in 24 hrs which was a lot of time. We finished with out any problem except that the ignition brackets gave in and had to be tied . It was great . Our Morgan’s also had just arrived from England . Enjoy!
For some reason I was alsways more of a Kim Schmidt fan, with his AMG CL. Until he seemed to go completely mad anyway. My grandad had a Morgan 3 wheeler, the original proper one. They were cool in their day you know.
This was pretty cool, reminds me of the M5 cross-country film which is an all-time favorite of mine. We need some more Alex Roy vids, "Live & Let Drive" style!
You get used to driving a Morgan, but it's true they come as a bit of a shock to somebody only used to modern cars (or the plusher older cars). That's why you see so many for sale with minimal mileage: people think they look good, but are horrified by no power steering, no traction control, no ABS, a chassis that's designed to flex, and ultra-hard suspension. Having driven both 3- and 4-wheeler Mogs (and owned a 4/4 for 14 years), I'd say yes, the 3-wheeler is more of a raw experience than the 4-wheeler; and yes, in the rain you do get very wet; and yes, in the wet you do need to be careful not to spin the wheel in 4th gear. But at the end of the day, it's down to your idea of fun. My idea of fun is 165k miles in my 4/4, so I reckon I could learn to live with a 3-wheeler, too. Just as long as I didn't want to take any luggage with me ...
I have a Miata 2014 phase 3, I drove it across South Dakota at 80 mph it took me 4 and one half hours. Just West of the Missouri river is the Missouri breaks a series of hills that go up and down 500 feet. At 80 mph in a Miata it's like a roller coaster on steroids. I also drive it top down thru the winter in Minnesota at 25 F. Just endless fun.
Dude, you guys are missing the point. It's not going across the country that is the challenge. It's the vehicle he's doing it with. Morgan 3 Wheelers aren't very reliable, and tend to have almost too much problems. The odd chance of you breaking down is higher in this vehicle than in any other new car you can buy. Then there are the brake failures, and a lot of other complications that nobody wants to deal with. Or in other worlds, cross country with basically an almost unrestored classic.
Trans-con record? I think not! Last time I looked, (this morning), Alaska was still part of the North American Continent. You want to set a real TC record, start at Point Barrow, Alaska and drive to Key West Florida!
'A machine best known for falling to pieces'. As per the description, what a dick statement. Anyone that knows true automotive history will know that this car harks back to a classic era of motoring and that it is still 100% handmade by craftsman. This iconic vehicle is out of reach to almost every but a handful of people, with a waiting list of about 5 years last I heard. Definitely an enthusiasts car, unlikely to be revered by anyone who thinks that a car must have a 7L V8 and do less than 20mpg.
THE DRIVE not good enough. As a statement, 'Morgan is best known for falling to pieces' is complete bullshit. As we can clearly see, it barely made it to the end if it hadn't been for the following crew stopping in the road to collect abandoned car parts!!!!! It(the statement made) suggests that it is poorly built to such an extent that out of every reason that people might remember this manufacturer, the most common hing they say is that it falls to pieces. Interesting that in this and another video on the same car, whilst some design flaws are covered and some idiosyncrasies commented on, no mention is made of any parts falling off, or falling to pieces.
Two days rough travelling is the worst thing that dude has ever done. Well, that sums it up. Rich kids doing something cool and slightly uncomfortable. I’m jealous they get to do it and they act like it was a hardship.
I met a guy from Seattle in Big Pine Key who was driving a really beat up mid 60s Morgan. But it took him well over a month , as he was always breaking down . And then spent a week in his tent after he got stung by Portuguese Man O Wars. He said it was the worst vacation ever !
Driving Fiat 126 daily. 650 cc. Yes . You don't have roof but it's anyway 2 liter engine . I don't have heater nothing . An even with tuning my maximum speed is 65 mph. Try this one day. I would love to try morgan . Looks awesome
Nice Morgan, but how is it more dangerous than a motorcycle? I've driven the perimeter of the lower 48 on a Kawasaki KZ750 and that Morgan looks really comfortable to me.
You didn't do much in your life if this is the worst thing you've ever done... seriously. Not so long ago, you would have done it on horseback, without modern stores, drive-throughs, paved roads, etc.
My brother did a similar trip in Australia on his Honda 90 step through scooter. Without any support vehicle and carrying his own requisites. He didn't get a single ticket for speeding across the Nullabor plain.
Can someone explain what is the big deal, it just 2 people driving a 3 wheel bike. I think people do these trips solo on bikes for fun. Also, if you are so concerned about the weather, break the record in summer time.
What a pair of winging Wendy's I would love to do that in a Morgan 3 wheeler. Yes in any other modern car it would just be a long drive but in a Morgan it's an adventure
Wow. Only 6 hours sleep in the past 24. Oh my goodness how did you survive it. Sorry guys, but this overly dramatic "mission" has been done thousands of times. I did it myself in a tractor trailer 20 years ago. Solo and with no "little helpers". Ah, the life of the idle rich.
They should have worn an Irvin. They’re the sheepskin jackets worn by RAF pilots during WWII. They still make them, well replicas! They will still keep you warm at about 15-20,000 ft altitude.
yeah, I would do this drive with her in the passenger seat, or driving. but that close to another fella for that long, no thanks. not that there's anything wrong with that.
90 percent of the practicality problems owning a Morgan trike would be solved if they simply provided the option of a full windscreen and even just a minimal convertible top with side flaps. Something Morgan trikes came with for decades before.
I've had to use a blanket before in a Humvee rolling up a couple hundred miles in the middle of February with no heaters before. That is not a fun thing to be required to do. 2900 miles by the time they listed was an average speed of about 70. Doable to beat that.
Where did you get the tickets? Looks to be a State Trooper. As long as one is generally pleasant (or as pleasant as one can be for getting pulled over), cooperative, have paper work in order, etc... Some State Troopers are cooperative enough to let one go completely, or reduce everything to a non moving summary violation.
It could have been a stupid idea, uncomfortable, stressful, dangerous but despite all that this is the juice of life. Alex has always this way of make me smile. This guy could be a fool sometimes (in a good way) though we all have to admit that also has a big pair of cojones. Long life for Mr. Roy!
I love this and also is it funny to anyone else that the next person to be interviewed after he’s talking about restroom breaks is from GI Auto Group?! 😁
Take a look at c90 adventure, going around the world. Your just doing in style and comfort. That’s the hardest thing you ever done, you are on lucky person. Great adventure. Great video. Great entertainment.
Two drama queens on a long distance trip with a brand new 3 wheel car. No mechanical issues just complaining about gas station clerks and nonsense. Not epic. These rich guys just want attention.
People do things like this all the time on motorcycles, solo, completely exposed to the elements. For fun. Without acting like they just performed a miracle. With that said, this looks like a fun trip!

Google the Iron Butt Association.
My first thougt! Cry-babys ..... 😭😭
Yep. I find it weird that people say you can't daily a car like a Lotus or a Morgan. Yet no one bats an eyelid at people using a motorbike all year :P
Yep. Lots of folks live in fear, or are lazy. To them it is amazing.
I've once crossed the US in a 79 Trans Am some years ago and it was surprisingly reliable. Drove real fast when the cops were away. It never broke down other than a few cosmetic blemishes I got on the road. And I made it. Now I'm cheering on his Moggy!
I dont know what they are moaning about . This is a new morgan . A 1930s morgan is an even more primitive affair
Why are they laughing at the reliability for the Morgan????? It's and S&S motor ffs, it's designed to go forever under very low stress.
Vintage car? No GPS? Open wheel? The Morgan they drove is not vintage, it's new. I spotted a GPS in the cockpit. It has cycle fenders up front and an enclosed wheel in the back. I know. and those highways were beautiful. these guys are too pampered.

Ironbutt checking in here 3300 miles coast to coast twice under 48 hrs with a 2 gallon tank on a sportster. These guys are taking there time and riding in luxury ;).
These guys did it non-stop and racing against the clock. That's an additional level of challenge.

By far the least safe car I've ever had the pleasure of driving. Thanks for the drive Alex!
Tedward I dream of building something similar (a Triking 3 wheeler) and meandering round the med' with my wife.
James Neave, save the time and money and just get a divorce.
Ever heard of the Reliant Robin?
”Worst thing I’ve ever done” etc etc.
You must’ve lead a sheltered life and, god damn, you’re whiny - a whole two days of discomfort...
What’s the big deal? Try doing it via motorcycle- maybe on all dirt roads. That would be an adventure

No GPS etc, then what was that 7 inch display down in the console? Looks like a Garmin navigational aid to me.

What a pair of winging Wendy's I would love to do that in a Morgan 3 wheeler. Yes in any other modern car it would just be a long drive but in a Morgan it's an adventure
You guys are nuts! Loved it!
Alex Roy....... Modern day driving super villain.......
Behold...the man the legend the narcissist!
Rather be on a Honda Goldwing but WOW! What a challenge in the morgan!
Epic trip but you should have a director cut version of this at least 45 minutes!
I'd say pretty well done, the 'breakdown' wasn't really a 'breakdown'.
They should have worn an Irvin. They’re the sheepskin jackets worn by RAF pilots during WWII. They still make them, well replicas! They will still keep you warm at about 15-20,000 ft altitude.
3 wheeler, 25% less chance to have a flat tire.
"no technology or electronics" my ass... 9:03 you got a GPS in there
Now that's more like it: a proper video, about proper vehicles, and proper real life. Props!
Propper comment!
Greg Wallis
I wonder if you'd call it a "proper vehicle" after a day riding in it? Looks properly misreble after the novelty wears off.
Bo McGillacutty I've been in a Morgan, they don't get boring, they are lovely as long as it doesn't rain.
Well Amber is a bit gorgeous!
yeah, I would do this drive with her in the passenger seat, or driving. but that close to another fella for that long, no thanks. not that there's anything wrong with that.
great adventure! Curious what the violation of Pennsylvania vehicle code was for? Speeding?
90 percent of the practicality problems owning a Morgan trike would be solved if they simply provided the option of a full windscreen and even just a minimal convertible top with side flaps. Something Morgan trikes came with for decades before.
I've had to use a blanket before in a Humvee rolling up a couple hundred miles in the middle of February with no heaters before. That is not a fun thing to be required to do. 2900 miles by the time they listed was an average speed of about 70. Doable to beat that.
It really cool that you could drive across the country with your sister. I spend a lot of time with my sister also.
Great to see Terry Tibbs back on our screens. Godbless
I am crazy jealous. I have always wanted to take a Morgan 3 on a cross country run. Not for time, but for FUN!
41 hours is going some. It took me 3 days from LA to Miami, alone, in '89. (Kiwi)
Bought out by TimeLife and this is the quality of video we get?? Cmon........
Awesome video
I'm 65 and would have NO PROBLEM driving a New Morgan 3 wheeler across the US in the summer.
Roy!
more alex roy videos please...
I love this and also is it funny to anyone else that the next person to be interviewed after he’s talking about restroom breaks is from GI Auto Group?! 😁
"Anybody can drive across country in a new car"..well it is a new car you just picked the dumbest one lol
Why are they pretending this was hard?
Good video but I really don't see why you think that was such a dangerous trip
This is awesome
Take a look at c90 adventure, going around the world. Your just doing in style and comfort. That’s the hardest thing you ever done, you are on lucky person. Great adventure. Great video. Great entertainment.
Try riding around Australia's Highway 1, on a Z1300 Kawasaki, for 15,000km (9320m), in 6 days, 22 Hrs and 51 min. SOLO!
12:09 Alex's description of the hell experienced.
Two drama queens on a long distance trip with a brand new 3 wheel car. No mechanical issues just complaining about gas station clerks and nonsense. Not epic. These rich guys just want attention.
