And yet people still figure out how to destroy them...Lol! I have a 1999, & while it's definitely impressive in what it can go through & what it can pull, they definitely aren't as bulletproof as people like to say they are...if you abuse it, you will tear it up, just like anything else...
Just imagine how expensive that would be on a Can Am...Lol! That's the truly great thing about these, parts are cheap & easy to replace, no electronics... well, not compared to everything else these days, we'll say minimal electronics...CPI, regulator/rectifier, that's pretty much it...

I just had this exact problem on an 01 Sportsman 400, (minus the blown bulbs and smoke), only had one shot of spark and only when I would disengage the start button so if you were lucky it would catch and actually fire and run. The CDI was weak, the battery fried and it ended up being the regulator.
Man i feel bad for thats the 3rd fire yet, the IT 200 kx80 and now this, hope you have much much better luck in the future cause you sure deserve an easy build now. Keep up the good work!
We had the exact same problem with ours, it would spark once then stop until you turned the key off and on. Got spark by hot wiring key and machine ran amazing. Could be a common problem on these, great video btw
That’s a 3rd generation 300 fourtrax you can only use a cdi for 98-2000 recitifer is a common problem for these quads and the rear differentials need the gear oil changed often to get the best life from the bearings. But the engine and transmission is absolutely bulletproof on the older Honda fourtraxs by far the best atvs ever built.
I had a 250sx like that, Chinese cdi nuked everything but good thing I had a complete parts bike. Lucky all his did was smoke since mine burned ha. Keep up the good work fella.
I am here bc i am trying to figure out how my neighbor’s caught fire. Unfortunately he couldn’t get it out of his garage before it caught the house and other vehicles on fire. House and cars are completely gone now. He suffered minor injuries. I hope everyone will purchase a fire extinguisher and keep it near their atv and be prepared to use it while working on it(he was working on it when it happened).
Having very similar issue with mine it would only run sometimes and it burnt out all my lights at my starter and it was way over charging the system I found out I have yet to fix it but I believe it is a rectifier/regulator.
2vintage, I have a 99 Honda 300 fourtrax 2wd. It cut off and I put a new cdi box on it. It fired up just a second and shut back down. Now it has no spark again. Any ideas? Thanks

Yep man I have three of em in the yard that do the same thing, I was thinking CDI, had the same issue in the past and a cdi fixed it, but there is somting about the early CDI incompatibility
My only concern with you fixing other people's ATVs is that it reduces the number of broken ATVs for you to buy, fix up and sell or trade at a profit. Don't underestimate the value of your abilities :)

I got a china key switch and handle bar switch worked good for month or so Then getting wet in rain a rusty and ground out. Put as good switch in working good
these 300s pop cdis all the time had a couple that would only spark when u let off the start button but it u held the button no spark, they do it randomly
My dad's melted a cdi like that the same way, he replaced the stator and that fixed the melting cdi, but it won't run unless it's battery has power, if you disconnect the battery it shuts off, any ideas why?

My key switch from eBay china did sane thing first started cutting off riding turn off back on and usually take right off then I took off out flip switch there a good one and no problem's
Man your having bad luck I've rebuilt over 30 small machines atv dirtbikes go carts whatever same as you these past 2 years and some how I haven't had anything like that happen
Did you figure it out? I’ve got the foreman 400 and it’ll run fine for a few minutes then just bog and die and won’t start until it sits a few minutes. I replaced the regulator/rectifier and the cdi with oem parts and it still happens.
Hello, there is a problem on my 2008 Honda trx250tm ES fourtrax. the indicator on the display shows a different position compared to the position on the gearbox. for example on the screen it says that the gearbox is in first gear, but the gearbox is actually in neutral and the green light for neutral does not light up. when I press the small handle and the button down to put it in reverse, the green light for neutral comes on and the gearbox is in reverse gear. I note that I can't get the letter R on the screen at all. I changed the angle sensor but everything is the same. Does anyone have a solution?
I am trying to figure out how my neighbors house burned down due to him working on his atv. I never heard it running. He described a random explosion and at least two different puddles of fire around the atv. I got a look at it while trying to extinguish it with their hose… It had definitely gone from silent(off) to violent (on fire) in 5.0 seconds! They lost everything. But you just described similar to what he experienced but couldn’t put his finger on
that dude that brought that to you problie hooked battery up backwards when he relised he hooked it wrong and changed it when he looked up how battery hooks up and did not tell you to befoul his good name yeaha

You can test the rectifier I believe. Just did it on my 89 KLF300C. Need 2 12v batteries 5 alligator clips and test light. I'm still watching vid. 👍

Dude! TRX300FW are one of my favorite machines, lots of cdi issues tho.

My atc 200 has issues with the cdi timing advance. I am going to take it out and put a set of points and condenser instead. I can make it work
