God bless this man. Great to see him looking healthy these days. Followed libertines since the beginning and love everything he amd Barratt have put out. Amazing pair of artists
Always a huge pleasure to see how Pete manages to fight against his old demons and becomes every day a better version of himself ❤ Very beautiful song too
Just so pure and beautiful. Pete, you're my old pal and you don't even know it. You've been the soundtrack to the last 23 years of my life. Always painfully honest, we're on another level with this new song. Congratulations, you're doing great, mate. I'm glad you're with us.
I never thought Pete would still be with us in 2025, never mind still conjuring up this kind of magic. Mr Barat back on side and us in tow. The Albion Sails On...
wonderful comment, really resonates with me. sitting in my brother's room back in 2002 watching some NME interview, feeling so mysteriously excited, can't believe so many years have passed but that feeling never changed. ❤
Good on you, from someone trying to get there too. Not going to lie I had to reread that. I was briefly trying to figure out how 5 years fit into 3 days 😂
@@joshcrapper864 Haha! Yeah, I could have worded that better. It seems impossible, doesn’t it. I am one of the lucky ones. No one in my group of friends really "made it", literally, in life or got sober and was fortunate enough to manage to stay sober. In contrary to those three days it took me about a decade from starting entering rehabs, fresh out of high school, then at 30, I was fortunate to get hospitalized for the 1000th time, and I met someone there who changed my life, and she is on her way to become a dentist, and she stood with me, watching me snort, eat pills and drink myself to death every waking minute of the day for a year, until my organs failed. I wasn’t gonna survive that, but I did. She was the last person I thought I’d see when I woke up. That was 6 years ago. She was my angel, and I’m happy to say that we have a great, healthy relationship, with great communication, love, and we have been engaged for 4 years now. She believed in me. I think that was what I needed. Someone to love me, even with the embers. She could handle it. Also I was head over heels for her - but I never put my sobriety on her. I did it for myself. She’s the gift.
One of the last true rockstar poets.. I put you up there with the likes of Macgowan, Cohen and Cave. A proper writer with the right voice. Keep it up dude and I believe you'll get the acclaim you deserve..
Absolutely stunning song and exceptionally beautiful video. Peter is like expensive red wine - the taste just gets better every year. Can't wait for the album - which I've just pre-ordered and will listen to when going on another roadtrip to France & UK this summer.
Go on Peter! You have been an absolute godsend my whole life. In the past when I was in the midst of addiction, and now again both in our 40s and healthy (enough). Your music heals! Look at all these fans here for you.
So many beautiful and evocative lines in this song. The song that's just on the edge of falling apart, the dog-chewed tourniquet, gunk as a verb... absolutely brilliant!
Food for thought, love the lyrics on this “I dreamt of gunfights in Toledo…I was in a lay-by north of Telford….a ley line under sacred Albion”. The dog chewed tourniquet line is also very clever like there’s a strap which ties two different worlds together one of dreams and romance and one of banality but it’s grown old and we is starting to fall apart. Great imagery. The dog an image of family life and old age? The torniquet a reference to...?
I dredged the mouth of the Humber, felt better alive. A really good verse. Anyone who knows the struggle to unearth clarity/meaning amidst the murky, chaotic aspects of this life can relate to it. It really feels better alive. Thanks again, Peter. Your poetry heals me. ❤
Loved your sacred melody and interview with Ireland's own Tommy Tiernan, well worth a watch. Can't wait to enthral myself into your new album also to see you gigging in Dublin 🎶☮️🎵🎸
This popping up on my feed was a real treat, still as full of soul and emotion as ever but I think the voice is even better, got a lovely mature tone that works so well with the song. Looking forward to the album.
When you have a busy day but your mind is stuck with: which tour date can I travel to and which bundle shall I order. Thank you Peter for bringing this kind of joy into our lives 🤗
I gave my nights up for old songs, sound better alive I gave my life over to old songs, sound better alive I dredged the mouth of the Humber, felt better alive Slipped unnoticed across your border, felt better alive... The song it skips and bumps along Seems to fall apart, then all I want as it comes together, sing the melody... I tip-toed around gravestones digging up old songs, felt better oh my I tip-toed around gravestones digging up old songs, was a hell of a night... The song it skips and bumps along Seemed to fall apart, then all at once it came together in sacred melody... And I'd always planned To sing in a sweet and soulful way as only cowboys can But my saddle strap snapped like a dog-chewed tourniquet And the sky fell low over north London And it hangs low until this day I dreamt of gunfights in Toledo, when I opened my eyes I was in the layby north of Telford, an A-road layby And as the tour had gunked and jumped along, seemed to fall apart Then all at once ran true as a ley line under sacred Albion And I had always planned To sing in a sweet and soulful way as only a cowboy can But my saddle strap snapped like a dog-chewed tourniquet And the sky hangs low over Margate sands And it hangs low yet...
